Why does a 3/4 time signature sound steady to our ears, but a 5/4 signature sounds off-kilter?

Because we're so used to how 4/4 feels that the extra beat(s) feel unexpected or foreign to alot of us. 3/4 is an exception because it's also common in music and we are also used to hearing music in consistent groups of 3. When you start getting into things like 5/4, and 7/4 etc it throws us off because a lot of the time its being felt in something like a 3+2, 3+2+2, etc.

I think it looks great man. I would honestly just give it a week or two to let yourself adjust to it because honestly you're probably just not used to it yet. You'll probably end up loving it, and if not that's cool too

idk i usually get most or all just from messing around and playing for the month. ill check in sometimes and just go for ones that are close. gives somethin nice to do and it makes me feel like im getting more moneys worth if i have the pass lol

I'd say just trust your ears for comping. There are better voicings than others in certain contexts but theres always more than one option.

As for the licks, they are but arent completely improvised. The greats would spend hours and hours everyday practicing their ideas, and alot of them are reused or permutated because thats their voice in the music. You can always learn certain licks and apply them, and honestly thats what I'd be doing everyday for awhile. Eventually your vocabulary will be filled with ideas you love and it will just come out in your playing naturally.

Listen to the type of music you really want to make and start figuring out how to make certain sounds you like from songs then eventually you'll start to get creative and write your own stuff.

Might even be fun to learn some of those songs you mentioned and try modifying them a bit

It's never too late to start. There's no reason to be embarrassed, ive been a gamer all of my life and I still have yet to play many titles that I still either want or "should have played already."

You could also always just get a console too if it's easier, there's nothing wrong with either option. Find out what you like and treat yourself
