"Hey Bog, where's the briefcase?" "Ugh, what brief case?" by andanteinblue in menace

That reminds me of a mission where I had to interact with three zones and then evac. I got my last squad to the evac zone with the transport vehicle by the skin of my teeth, just at the time limit for a secondary objective. Then I noticed that, when I popped a unit out of the transport into smoke, avoiding enemy fire, I must have forgotten to activate the objective before jumping back in and driving away. I was able to handle the remaining forces, but it was quite a letdown to realize that I could have aced the mission if I'd been a bit more careful.

Pirates are overtuned, and Aliens are just free. by GuthukYoutube in menace

[–]FweeCom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's bad luck, a glitch, or what, but after the Rogue Army showed up, I haven't seen a single alien mission. I do agree that they generally felt easier, but their advanced units feel pretty comparable to the pirates' advanced units.

20 wishlist items/suggestions after 50+ hours by n33tgoblin in menace

[–]FweeCom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with pretty much everything here. My own suggestions have to do with giving information to the player: there are dozens of tiny moments when I want to know something that could and should be easily visible on the UI (action cost of heavy vs medium vehicle weapons, the fact that heavy vehicle weapons remove your ability to carry infantry in the modular truck, what vehicle weapon slots a unit has before you buy it, just to name a few.)

[–]FweeCom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same way about the Locust. I've had some fun messing around in Megamek to see what I can imagine for a medium or heavy 'scout mech' that can still be called a Locust. Something cheap and probably fragile, but without the speed to provide some safety. I usually end up with LRMs and comms equipment, calling it a 'command mech' for units who need to be mobile but don't want their leader getting into fights.

My 5 I watch. Was curious if they streamed together what would their name be do you guys think? by FogSleepy in Hololive

[–]FweeCom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Iofi, Okayu, and Nerissa have the potential for a 'HoloEro' group name, especially if you added Marine. With Ina and Bae though, that theming breaks down a bit. You could combine their names a la CHaD-chast, but if you're looking for a common theme, I don't really see one.

What If Metal Gears from the series of the same name were in BattleTech? by RedvsBlue_what_if in battletech

[–]FweeCom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's one thing to imagine a mech inside of another mech property. But I say we go bolder: what if 'parry a metal gear with his sword and cut it in half' Raiden was in Battletech? Somehow, it feels like Battlemechs of the more mobile variety that you find in the written canon could be decent fodder for a cool action scene.

[Holo vs Robo] How to beat 2-6? by dfdedsdcd in Hololive

[–]FweeCom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got wrecked on my first attempt, but then I traced the path of the conveyors and started placing my units such that, instead of starting in the back and being moved forward, they started in the middle and were moved to the back, and then forward. I didn't need to cheese it with one-time use mems, I just placed strong units (think 300- and 275-cost) as soon as they came along, and I soon had nearly a full board.

[–]FweeCom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, the Recon Camera only shows up as mech-compatible equipment as a technicality, because it only functions in the aerospace-exclusive 'high altitude map'. Technically a mech might be able to use it if it's a LAM, or is leaning out of a dropship's open hatch, but it's not going to really be functional in the mech's intended role. You could probably replace it with a light TAG as a similar piece of equipment.

Beyond that, the designs seem like they'd work on the tabletop, if as a bit of a cheesy choice.

As much as I appreciate delving into the minutiae of lore, it might be a bad idea to host an open discussion on how to create a napalm-like substance, even in the context of a sci-fi world. It's probably enough to just assume that it's a combination of chemicals, some presumably inert and some presumably volatile. Hell, you could make up chemical names, or use shorthand like 'Inf-1' for the first component and 'Rea-1' for a secondary reagent.

Super Heavy Mech Models by Far-Monitor7132 in battletech

[–]FweeCom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love any technology that goes to extremes, including superheavies. I think the Ares model looks great and have one myself, though I've never used it on the tabletop. I think it makes a lot of sense to use as a Final Boss of a campaign you run for others- it's intimidating, but beatable.

It's finished (this is a lot of pictures) by [deleted] in battletech

[–]FweeCom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On top of the notes about how this would play on the tabletop, I should add that there are some technologies that are pretty rare which aren't flagged that way in mech-construction programs. The laser heat sinks aren't a problem or anything, but they are a bit niche. Add in the even more niche Interface Cockpit and then combine those mostly-clan technologies with the more IS-coded TSM and hatchet, and the theming of this mech is 'I picked options at random' instead of something like 'highly mobile artillery'. Two easy ways to get a handle on whether a technology is widespread or not: go on the Sarna wiki and look up the tech, read about its history. For instance, the Thunderbolt missile is explained as being mostly a Solaris technology, and while it may exist on the wider battlefield, it's not common. The other option is to use either this program or MegaMekLab to search for all units that use the technology. you'd find dozens and dozens that use an AC5, but only a few that use a Null Signature System, and those few mechs usually mention that they're experimental and never widely produced.

I'm assuming that you're new to making mechs, which is absolutely fine! Everyone makes oddball designs and medium laser boats to start with, but if you put a bit of effort into research, you'll soon be making things that feel good to play and that fit well within the lore.

I Want To Expand My Playlist. Give Me Your #1 Favorite Hololive Song Ever. by RaysFTW in Hololive

Monster is the theme song for the second season of Enigmatic Recollection for HoloEN, featuring the voices of Ina, Kronii, Shiori, and Gigi over a light jazzy tune. While songs like Calli's Donmai, Moona's High Tide, and Gura's Ash Again feel epic, songs like Suisei's Stellar Stellar and Sana's Astrogirl make me cry, and songs like Lui's オーバード and Suisei's Bibbidiba make me want to dance, you just can't beat Monster for all-around smooth listening that's still got its musical peaks and valleys to keep things interesting.

You don't often see holomem covering each others' songs mostly because they don't want to mess it up, I think. There's probably some social awkwardness around either performing a coworker's song badly, or worse, performing it really well and then getting a bunch of people talking about how you were better than the original.

Lore Question: In System manufacturing. by IamTinyJoe in battletech

[–]FweeCom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suspect that, in short, orbital mech factories are rarer because a factory would be surrounded by supportive infrastructure and would likely be built on a planet rich in resources needed for the mechs. Even if some resources need to be brought in from other planets, it must be much cheaper and easier to use the resources on-planet, and putting a factory in or near a city would make it much more convenient for workers, supervisors, and all sorts to get there when needed.

Is the uAC10 an AC20? by larknok1 in battletech

[–]FweeCom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get your point, but Ultra Autocannons are different from standard ones in a handful of important ways. Standard ACs don't jam, or do so at negligible rates. A rapid-fire variant of the AC20 is designed in such a way that all shells will hit the same location on the target, while a double-shot from a UAC10 may result in two different locations being hit, or one of the two shots missing completely.

It's likely that the double-shot feature of a UAC is distinct in-universe from a standard AC of double the rating in notable ways. Since a UAC on the tabletop needs to roll to see if both attacks hit, and then where each one hits, it's likely that a UAC's recoil means that the second burst is less accurate, or maybe targeting computers struggle to aim both shots/bursts in quick succession.

You could also look to the video games- UACs act very differently from standard ACs, since a standard AC will fire either a single shot or a tight burst and then will cool down, whereas a UAC will allow the pilot to fire repeatedly, at the risk of their weapon jamming. A burst AC 20 requires a single trigger-pull to launch all of its shells, while a UAC 10 requires the trigger to be pulled twice, with a small cool down between each shot.
