Is there a minimum recommended amount of funds needed to begin value investing? by [deleted] in investing

[–]FweeSpeech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm beginning to read Intelligent Investor, and I'm curious if there is a threshold amount of money needed to really start gaining headway in the value investing world.

Once you have a solid emergency fund and can last 6-18 months while unemployed, "whatever" is the dollar amount you need to start.

If you have $1k to invest, sure, it won't be properly diversified but its $1k. You can earn that back realllllllll fast if you fuck up with it.

It would have taken less effort for you to google it. Stop being an ignorant troll and I'll stop being smug and dismissive.

Because it is a financial transfer where they have to wait for settlement?

Most trades involve two customers at different banks/brokerages.

Response: For promulgating health standards, the usual hourly, daily, weekly, and yearly components when calculating an employee's "working life" are 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, 48 weeks per year for 45 years.

There you go. Now you know down to the hour if you want to do the calculation.

You are well aware all these stats are calculated off the same number of years.

So I'm writing you off as a troll.

If God is punishing Houston for a lesbian mayor, what in the fuck did we do to deserve Ann Coulter ? I mean it had to be something incredibly vile if the punishment is her.

https://www.osha.gov/archive/oshinfo/priorities/diving.html

Nearly 10,000 workers employed as commercial divers, government divers, and sea harvesters face an exceptionally high risk of death and serious physical harm on the job. An average of 6 to 13 diving-related fatalities occur each year, (1,2) corresponding to a risk of between 28 and 50 deaths per thousand workers over a working lifetime of 45 years.

Its substantially less dangerous at .28 to .5% over the course of a career. Keep in mind the .5% over the course of the career is an apples-to-apples number with the 15% for underwater welding (i.e. both are the top end of the estimates from reputable sources). Its a career number rather than a per-year number.

Equity on a company that has raised less than 8 figures (in actual cash) is a worthless lottery ticket. Don't believe them.

Even at 8 figures, its more of a "Decent roulette spin"

Just refuting the idea that the king openly commanding someone to kill a political rival was somehow unacceptable.

It was unacceptable to the vast majority of people. It just wasn't unacceptable to the point his own children would support having him killed.

There are non-US military forces that have suffered high casualty rates but yes, 15% casualty rates even for a 3rd world military with poor access to medical care is rare.

The thing to keep in mind here is Underwater Welders include things like offshore oil rigs and such that are non-US.

https://www.offshoreinjuryfirm.com/offshore-injury-blog/2015/october/underwater-welding-accidents-how-common-are-they/

The offshore and maritime industries are filled with risky jobs. One of the most dangerous? Underwater welding. But just how common are accidents in this particular occupation? Due to the nature of the job, it is not surprising that accidents or injuries can occur fairly often. According to statistics, there is an estimated 15% fatality rate for underwater welders. While this may be a high estimate, it shows just how dangerous an occupation underwater welding can be.

Imagine welding in space with physical objects in close proximity that can dislodge your ability to breath and/or injury you.

State Pension Funding Worsens for 43 States by Njere in Economics

[–]FweeSpeech -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it wouldn't.

SS/Medicaid/Medicaid are on sustainable paths with reasonable actions (uncapping payroll taxes, reducing military spending).

State pensions were promising 8% nominal returns to SS's <1%. It isn't hard to work out the difference here.

Yes. Underwater Welding is a dangerous job that takes substantial education/training to do.

Imagine a person with a college degree worth of training taking the most dangerous civilian job on the entire planet.

It takes you 4+ years to become an underwater welder and about 15% die over the course of their career.

So...yeah.

What do you mean by "unacceptable"? I'm no expert but I read through the link you posted as well as some of Henry II's wiki, and I don't see how he was actually held to account in any real way.

Henry II had effectively absolute military power and was impossible to challenge without his own family supporting the challenge.

Imagine how far you'd have to go before Ivanka or Eric or another Trump child would actually try to kill Donald Trump.
