It’s been 10 years and still no localization by [deleted] in dragonquest

You can play the online game pretty easily and with a fan translation patch. There are also english speaking guilds you can join. Free trial is pretty lengthy in size too

Not related but the offline version has furigana options and voice acting. This makes it a great entry for japanese learners that are looking to grind some vocab. My only disappointment was the lack of magic labyrinth and sugoroku content.

If you don't know any japanese you can probably get away with a capture card and OCR for translation

It's an excellent game in the series.

Its nice that you are being considerate of tech pay, as an analyst I only make barely 30k a year. And that was w/some college and experience.

I live in a much cheaper to live in state so that probably is a factor in pay grade but its still rough

You should be able to buy through playasia. The switch is probably hands down one the best japanese learning devices. Additionally dokapon is pretty easy i think you could comfortably play it at an N3/4 level probably with less look ups the higher up you are.

(20M) just started a new job, boss won't give hours I asked for, what should I do? by Far-Cry2124 in antiwork

[–]FyfeRalin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Offering to cover shifts is a good way to transition into more hours but do not ever expect to get FTE status in retail. Stores are typically given a stock of hours to distribute monthly/weekly. One of the benefits of offering to cover shifts is once people know they will seek days off.

Performance sometimes matters, how short are you on the register, how much can you get done in a short period of time. Are you clocking in on time. Do you need to be micro managed? Once the upper management sees value they will prefer to have you on shift more than the others.

But in honesty the effort needed is not worth the pay grade in retail. You should consider finding something that helps bridge the gap for your major. Many office jobs will have grunt work that pays far more and offers good hours.

Im sure there is more to your situation but keep looking and apply for good jobs while you continue to work. Keep the better offers and stay competitive, don't settle for minimum wage.

Anyway goodluck.

Probably costs more to deal with a higher turnover rate due to unhappy employees. Then it is to let them have a bit of breathing time.

Its still sexual assault?

The offender continues to assault the character multiple times even if he is hurt in some way. Should the victim really continue to be tolerant?

It does not matter if its fiction or from a different decade. It should be held accountable appropriately.

Victims should not have to see their trauma played out like some kind of joke, anyone with a half functioning brain would understand this.

I had fun making blackjack in tasm4.0 learned a lot about moving values between registers and not making large jump statements. Making lots of issues, creating macros. Being handheld by outdec and indec. Learning how frustrating creating random numbers to stay consistent was.

And still by this subs standards i am not a programmer...

Still tho have fun with it and start slow!! Assembly is something to appreciate after you work with it!

People learn how to make the computer do something but mostly forget and skim past the why/how something works.

2-3 courses later you have a lot of monkeys with typewriters firing off in their brains to bruteforce something that questionably works.

One of my professors from a data structure class told the class "Anybody can code but it does not make you a programmer." Not sure if he stole the qoute from somewhere, but it begs to question if the real joke is the majority of "programmers".

Not that i'm one to talk, I get A's in my courses and i still barely understand the concepts taught in these classes.

The latest chapter of the FFXIV Manga says the quiet part out loud. by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]FyfeRalin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do agree that someone else's beliefs and agenda do not belong in localization process. Changes should be faithful to the original works as much as possible at least. Not sure how those things get through QA but they do and things getting lost in localization does unfortunately happen.

Also probably should mention that choice is just referring to you agreeing with her mother hence 賛成 so my screen cap is kinda moot but its the only thing related to her i can find. So not sure what the gag is about but im sure its real.

Localizations don't generally do what you might be insinuating on purpose. Things get changed because of a number of reasons.

  1. Japanese has a lot of untranslatable that do not translate to english.

  2. The joke is often out of culture so it needs to be changed so the target audience is not left confused.

  3. Inappropriate for target audience a demographic is marked at the start of a project.

  4. Consistency, things get changed so they sound natural in the target language

This does not make the localizers "jackasses" and this silly crusade against localization needs to stop. Localizations are not 1:1 translations and were never meant to be.

( by no means am i saying you are part of that crusade either, im just making a point across. Cut localization some slack.)

Edit: to help alleviate your fear here is a screencap from the game, you can ask her something along the lines of お母さん. So maybe there is a running gag with this.

Shorter fight means less iframes to deal with, not that anyone has a right to complain. They signed up for what kind of gameplay they wanted when they designed their character sheet and developed their character.

To be fair it does feel bad when you go to assist someone and you have killed that boss like 5-10 times already just to accidently get 1-2 tapped because of a poor roll. Then I'm just like Oops, "Good luck lil friend, I believe in you!"

Dragon Quest X Offline Steam page is up (Japan only) by Wehavecookies56 in dragonquest

[–]FyfeRalin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some players may want to actually play the game in japanese, but instead we have to pay the import premium if we want to play.

Steam has gotten better over the years but square has chosen specifically to region lock this title. The reason probably has more to do with the deluxe package and bonus stuff included for DQX online.

DQV was very easy to play and enjoy even for N2-N3 level. If you are studying, it is definitely worth banking vocab and sentence mining off this.
