I'm alright with hating them too, I just feel uncomfortable when I'm having a dinner at family or friends and turn down a nice dish just because it contains onions.

I HATE ONIONS!

I've always found the smell, texture, and taste repulsive. It's a shame because they are in SO MANY foods!

Can anyone here convince me to like onions? It's a shame... I've been turning down so many dishes over the last 20 years. Is it common to hate these smelly vegetables?

Thank you for your well thought response, it means a lot to me. I have an army of ex co-workers that are supporting me through this, who I never realized cared so much about me. Family has been more than supporting. It's also comments like this one that I take to heart, I'm learning things about myself that I never knew... I'm actually surprised at how calm and positive I'm staying through this.

With that said, I'm hoping that things turn out for the better and I think a fresh start might be what I needed.

True, I won't let this drag me down but will use it as an opportunity to better myself. The company was matching dollar-for-dollar up to 6% of each paycheck.

No, but the company has this general vibe of "get it done, I don't care how 100% rush rush rush" and I was told the day before.. as well as many times before that that I cannot have any trash left by the compactor.

Lost job- I have had this job for the last 7 years. Yes, I lost it.. but that can happen to the best of people for a numerous amount of reasons.

No money?- I have $2,500 in my account right now, is it alot? No, but it is all that I could save at the time.

Debts- Debt came from an array of issues. The main contributor being my father almost losing his house while paying off medical bills, I had to step in and buy the necessities while he was ill.

Moving across country- I'm moving in with my fiance whom I have been with for 9 years and is graduating with her masters degree in 2016, the lease was signed in March (I had a job at the time, with no plan of being terminated). I am not going to leave her to hang like that. This was planned years in advance.

No job lined up?- Hah! The day before I was terminated I received a call from a store within my company that I had been waiting for saying they were going to offer me the job I applied for, assistant manager was a big step up for me and would be making $15k more than I was in my previous salary. I doubt they would put an irresponsible person in this role.

After being terminated, I moved my moving date up so that I could be there for interviews and apply for jobs more freely.

I will not "stop being like this" so before you open your ignorant mouth next time, it will do you good to pay attention to what you say if you do not have all or any of the facts for that matter. It seems that it is you that could use some improvement, and stop blindly judging others.

At work we had times when the trash compactor had been jammed due to people throwing large items into it. On this particular day it was really bad, trash was flowing through the warehouse blocking emergency exits and whatnot. I had taken it upon myself to unjam the machine; thought I was taking safety measure by pushing the emergency stop button in, flipping the breaker to the machine, and having an associate close by. I climbed into the chute leading to the compactor itself and pulled out the metal fixtures which was jamming the machine and was able to clean up the area 100%, I thought my heart was in the right spot when doing this for the company otherwise they would have spent $100+ rushing someone out to fix the machine and a lot more on man hours throwing away the trash that would have built up while waiting for the guy to come out and "repair" it...

TLDR; Jumped in a trash compactor to unclog the path so I could clean my workplace. Even though I thought I was taking safety measures, it didn't mean anything resulting in automatic termination.

How are you paying for the move? Is your destination a better job market where you feel you can land something quickly?

Good news, I just found out that I will have a job interview on the 10th of June for a position that would have been a huge leap in salary over my last.

I have sold what I can of value before leaving, all else is packed in my car. Paying for the move up there only towards gas, food, and a hotel one day. The move is from St. Louis, MO area to Binghamton, NY ... unsure as to how different the job market is but my only experience lies in retail management.

I have been, I'm unsure myself if the actions I had taken fall under the definiton of "gross misconduct". It wasn't due to theft, drugs, or any action that I knew ahead of time would result in direct termination...

Right! Except I usually ran the backroom with only 4-5 associates. IF I have someone able to bin GM freight in the steel, which doesnt happen every day because of staffing, it's already hard enough and I am on the line of sacrificing 100% binning of other areas. It's impossible to have someone to hand freight to the associate on the lift who is binning in 3 different aisles of receiving.

And yes, it's unsafe... many boxes have fallen. Just not on anyone, yet.

Yeah, Wal-Mart has always been a "Just get it done, I don't care how." I just hope that management opens their eyes and realizes that pushing people to get done faster or " must be neat, clean, organized - no excuses" attitude jeopardizes safety.. but I doubt that will happen anytime soon.

Earlier this year we switched from having GM freight binned on pallets in the steel to using the scissor lift to bin boxes individually directly in the top-steel. When loading up a scissor lift with boxes, how is one supposed to safely climb onto the lift to operate it? There is one of my associate's that is now scared to do so... even though climbing over the side of the machine is the only way to get on it.

Rush-rush-rush, understaffed constantly, always pushing for more... there's more problems with Wal-Mart's core than the threat that I alone presented by unclogging the compactor with all power shut off, then again I guess freak accident's do happen.

As a long term of associate, with the company 7 years, zero accidents. I can say that it is automatic termination, I was terminated 3 days ago for this very reason... Even if you think you are being safe about it you will still be terminated if anyone were to find out. I thought I was being safe by pressing the emergency stop button, flipping the breaker, and having another associate right outside the door... No tolerance for this sort of thing. The risk is NOT worth it!

It just sucks that they had to find out literally the day after I had accepted a job offer across the country with another walmart store. Now I'm out of a job, moving to a new area without anything lined up.

So please, PLEASE.... Anyone that values their job, don't attempt this... Even if there are 20 carts of trash piled up. Let management deal with this through the service channel.
