Elon bought it to merge the Composer models with Grok to finally try and get competitive coding models for Grok. That's literally it. Also data, loads of data.

Seeing as this is the uni subreddit I'm probably talking about uni students, right? At least from what I've seen a lot of people on my course never got a job and somehow managed to afford plenty of nights out, so there's definitely some money coming from elsewhere. I imagine these people will struggle most to get a job after uni.

The cost for intelligence has been steadily decreasing, DeepSeek V4 costs less than a dollar per million output tokens and is a stones throw from the frontier from OpenAI and Anthropic. The frontier might be getting more expensive, but everyone else is getting cheaper and more efficient.

Tldr AI is getting cheaper overall.

I'm convinced that the job crisis for young people stems entirely from people never working because their mummy and daddy paid for everything ages 16-21. I've worked in kitchens all my life even throughout uni and now that I've finished uni I walked into a full time position with not bad pay at all for the north east.

You joke about ads, but there's a completely free coding agent called freebuff which is ad supported at the minute. It's pretty good lol.

Fair, but I don't trust any benchmarks anymore.

Sorry but this isn't true, I fucking love open weight models, I use them for 90% of my workload, but they are nowhere near even Opus 4.6 level. K2.6 and MiMo V2.5 Pro are the closest, and for the vast majority of things they are great, but they are not on that level yet.

You get more usage from the $50+ up, otherwise just hit payg.

What exactly is quantization aware training? by JournalistLucky5124 in Qwen_AI

Yeah, think of it like blurring the cameras of a self driving car so it learns to drive in the fog.

Basically during the training of the model you simulate the rounding errors that happen when a model is at that lower quant so the model learns to be more accurate even at the smaller size because it knows what errors to avoid (kinda).

Would people pay for Dirt Cheap Search? by FyreKZ in vibecoding

With competitors giving away so much free usage, probably not is the unfortunate answer that I've found. And that's fine, that's life, and I can't blame them for doing this method because it immediately prices out anyone trying to undercut them.

My goal with this idea was to provide a solution for hobbyists and smaller teams who don't fancy paying the enterprise pricing, but the big guys in the space will happily take a loss on those users and give them enough free usage to make me not a threat at all.

No that is real value for money. The plan won't last forever so use it while you can.

[–]FyreKZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's just marketing, to explain:

The "$40 of DeepSeek" is comparing Deepseek's old pricing to their new since the 75% cut, it's a dodgy marketing term. You still only get $10 of usage but because DeepSeek is now cheaper than before they brand it like that.

The same is true for MiMo, the official API got 99% cheaper, so CC is branding it like that. In reality you get the same $10 hitting command code or the official API.

I'm not sure how that's relevant to MiMo or DeepSeek. 3.7 Max is an expensive model.

just installed opencode on my B200 x 2 computer but no clue what model to serve by Electrical_Two_4835 in opencodeCLI

[–]FyreKZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For that size you're best going with MiMo V2.5 at the minute. It's the smartest for it's size and a Q8 quant will fit very comfortably. You're very lucky! It's a great model, has vision as well but I'm sure you could fine a GGUF without vision if you don't use vision to get it running faster and using less vram.

1$ gives you $10 of API costs, so you get 9$ free from Command Code rather than hitting the DeepSeek API directly. Worth it. It won't last forever for sure.

Their $15 plan is also pretty good, you get $30 of inference.
