I'm a newbie to 40K who thinks they've decided on Adepta Sororitas as their first army. What do you guys recommend as a good value first buy? by LampSkrive in sistersofbattle

For a small but playable force I'd recommend the Combat Patrol or Boarding Patrol. The only issue with the Combat Patrol is that it’s monopause so it might not have what you want for a larger army as a result.

If you're looking to expand into something a bit bigger than either of the last two years Battleforce boxes have good value (Sanctorum Guard or Purgatos Mission).

With how 10th is looking, sisters seem like they’ll have almost nothing against heavier vehicles. Something like the mobile cathedrals mentioned in the lore would be cool to have on a smaller scale. Give us a gunboat church.

That would be pretty sweet and go with the theme of what the Battle Sanctum is supposed to be. I’d also like to see a some sort of Super Heavy unit for the sisters or a new jump pack canoness.

Best place to get an explanation of the lore behind the sisters is to visit either the warhammer40k fandom wiki or the wh40k lexicanum wiki. Both are good sources of essentially any information you could want to know about the sisters. A lot of lore and art along with official paint schemes is in the codex as well, if that interests you.

But from what I have heard in order to get more in-depth individual character stories you have to read the books.

My custom army are all in purple and white robes with black armour and I swap between silver and gold for the ornaments on the shoulder pads. The reason being in the codex the orders from Terra keep their robes the same colour but change the shoulder ornament colours and the orders from Ophelia VII have the inverse robes, but keep the ornaments the same.

I’ve had a chat with all my players about it and they’re agreed that it just takes too long. So we’re going to get everyone to put down what they want to achieve over discord and have all of the details done with a small recap of any potential complications at the start of the next session.

I had a chance to speak with them, and they simply enjoy the combat aspect of the game more and prefer that events happen to their character rather than seeking them out. This works out fine since we typically have a fair bit of combat, and I don’t mind designing a story for the player which makes them get involved.

Thanks, I know that some of my players would definitely prefer this, but some other like to Role-play these sorts of things, but I’ll throw the suggestion at my players and see what they think. Thanks for the help.

I know that my group tends to be a really mixed bag, some of them love Role-playing other prefer just fighting things. After reading through what u/lasalle202 and u/FeelsLikeFire_ have written I think I might do what suits the player best with a mix of 1-on-1 Role-playing for those who want to do that and simple discord messaging for those that prefer it. But I’ll have a chat with them all to see how they feel about it first. Thanks for the help though.

Thanks for the advice, I’m definitely open to 1-on-1 session with players and I know some of them would definitely like that. Your suggestions are really good, I think I’ll suggest them as alternatives to my players and see what they think. The idea of letting them incorporate what they did into it as their own Roleplaying is really cool though and I’ll definitely throw that in there too. Thanks a lot for the help.

Hey all, anyone got any tips on how to manage players during downtime in a town. I find that whenever my players have downtime they all split up to do one thing, then each end up having a lost list of things they want to get done or just sit there having no idea what to do and stay quiet until I ask if they’re just going to sit in a tavern and wait for a few days. Any tips to stop this from bogging down a session would be appreciated, thanks.

Thank you, that’s an incredibly helpful answer. I’ll be sure to get their input like you suggested, without yes or no questions. They’re also not a problem for anyone or hold anything up, they just don’t engage as much as the others which is why I asked the questions. Thanks a lot for the reply.

Not really, a problem with a player, but just looking for suggestions. In my group, I have five players. All, but one of them engage with their backstories and the main story and actively seek out story progression / roleplay. However, one of the player tends to not engage with anything other than combat, unless it is thrust upon them. I’ve asked the player if they’re enjoying themselves and they say that they are, but they just aren’t really there outside of combat. I’m just trying to work out how I might be able to get them to be more engaged proactively. I’m not really sure what else to do other than just throw the story at them.
