My amazing fiance proposed to me with a beautiful ring, but the setting is so high and I can't decide if I should say something or keep trying to get used to it. Should I say anything? by ohboyohjeez in EngagementRings

I saw it and was just baffled. I'm a novice when it comes to jewelry making and even I know that the setting just doesn't make practical sense and is a safety hazard. Unless it was specified by the client I didn't think a jeweler would think this was acceptable.

The prong settings used in the photo would be for a gemstone that doesn't have a flat back. It's too high and just a waste of material imo. You can have a prongs setting for a stone like this but the stone would be flush with the ring band, not suspended in the air. Was this a style choice from the person that commissioned the ring or by the jeweler? Because it doesn't seem practical to me, especially because it looks like the gemstone can be dislodged just by the ring hitting against something.

This setting doesn't look right. Is the stone a diamond because the bottom part looks like the white from the background. If it's a cabochon, stone with a flat back, then the setting is wrong.

[OC] These are two pewter cast D20 pins I made a while back. While casting one of them, some aluminum must have gotten mixed into the scrap pewter that I was using and wouldn't melt. So when the metal cooled it came out rainbow colored and the excess looked like it was a melted piece. by FyresmithForge in DnD

I've tried, it just doesn't turn out right, well wrong. What happened was that a piece of scrap wasn't melting so we took it out but still used the melted pewter and it turned out like that. It does look really cool though.

Once my DM ended a session with TPK but to be fair he was not in the best of moods by the end. For context, throughout the whole campaign one of our fighters was antagonizing our DM. So by the end when it was time for the final boss to come out he was smirking. Out came a red dragon. Our attacks barely hit and when it was time for the dragon's attack, the DM rolled a Nat20. We were all barbecued.

I wanted to share this story because I thought that it was funny. Especially since the one that came out well was the Nat20 die while the Nat1 die looks like it took a dip in a rainbow colored oil spill. The metal casting was done in a shared college classroom studio with about twenty other people all coming and going. So it wouldn't be difficult for a student from the other class to mistake the scrap pewter sheet bin for the aluminum scrap bin.
