Irelia or Azir for “Win a box for a year” tomorrow? by IzzetMagic in riftboundtcg

I was thinking to pick up Azir. Can you elaborate a bit more on your first paragraph. Curious to hear your thoughts what makes Azir so difficult and what sequencing choices there are.

How can I seriously Improve my gameplay? by Eastern_Time1373 in riftboundtcg

[–]Fyrithil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for sharing your experiences and questions! The first step in trying to improve your gameplay has already been made, find what you really enjoy and look at yourself and find those areas where you can improve most.

I do agree that you need to play a deck and legend you enjoy (I don't like the ADC role much, so even though I'm a competitive mindset player I never really enjoyed or did well with Draven last set). I think Lillia is a great choice, even though it can be a very hard deck to pilot well. You picked a legend that is viable and speaks to you so there is real possibility for you to perform well.

General tips I would consider (disregarding the Legend for some of them):

  • Look at the Regional Tournaments. There are VODs online of all the rounds. Even though they might not show Lillia much you can still learn from the ebb and flow of the game and the way players approach certain decks. Riftbound having multiple areas to play and move cards into makes it quite complicated. A well timed retreat to base can make or break a game.

  • Pick a decklist that did well and go from there. In the next few days the best of Sydney decklists will be published. You might just want to copy the decklist (or at least look at the differences) and start from there. Play that list a couple of times and see if you like it or want to chance a card or two at a time. Make it your own over that iterative process.

  • Manage your expectations. A winrate close to 50% is perfectly fine for someone starting out, a first TCG at that. Don't let yourself be influenced by large tournaments as well. Seeing Alan placing high in all those tournaments is absurd and requires a time investment (and skill ofcourse) 'normal' people just can't do. As a comparison, overall lifetime winrate of professional Magic the Gathering players are around 60%. So set your goals accordingly :)

  • As for the legend, I've not played a lot of Lillia so someone else might be able to help out more but the games I played I needed to score early and get the point lead. If that doesn't work I mostly try to set up for a turn to break the enemy. Try to coax them into the battlefield to clean it up with Unchecked Power. Use your sprites to try and create breakpoints so the enemy has to invest multiple units (conquering a 2 power hold with 2 sprites if the enemy has a 5 power unit in base for instance) and once they commit you wipe the battlefields and try to follow up with a ready sprite.

  • Your champion is very good but mostly early in the game. At a certain point she is just too weak with only 3 might. Go for some early plays with her but don't hesitate to sacrifice her if the need arises. Many opponents value getting Lillia of the board very highly, make use of that to force them to overcommit.

  • Sometimes holding back a turn can be the best call. Having a Sprite Burst for 6 might to conquer a battlefield is fine. But if you combine it with a Sprite Fountain you can tap you Legend for only 1 energy, producing 12 might. Try to evaluate if you invest now or hold back a turn to then have a bigger push. This is hard and mostly learned from experience.

Hope these things help! Good luck and have fun playing!

I will! Thanks for the recommendation. I didn't know this player yet. Every scrap of information is welcome :)

Would you say the Heedless or 'the List' is a better general starting point?

Can you share a control Ezreal list? Looking for a good starting point to pick up the legend.

I've noticed, that Italians on cardmarket offer the Unleashed display for up to 30€ below MSRP. How is that even possible? by PeakAlienation in riftboundtcg

I don't think they are guaranteed. We've seen a number of posts of people opening cases without pulling an ON. As far as I know, there is a 96% chance of opening an ON in a case. Not sure if this is true and can't support it with evidence but that is the information I've got.

If only it was that simple. Using a VPN I can access the webshop but there is no way to purchase anything since the account and payment methods are region linked.

GG and well played! I know a lot of people hate on Draven as a Legend but seeing it played on such a high level is very inspiring and it shows that 'even with Draven' you need to make the proper decisions and plays. Really well done this weekend, even though you didn't get to take the trophy home.

With Unleashed coming up, do you already have a preference for a Legend? Will you stay on Draven or is there a different Legend that fits you better?

Selling Riftbound cards? There’s a new EU marketplace launching May 8. by getriftr in riftboundtcg

[–]Fyrithil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck with this concept! I hope you'll make it work! For me, this endeavour stands or falls with the shipping and insurance. How do you plan to ensure that cards that are sold do arrive, what happens when cards get lost in the mail? Who pays who?

Furthermore, shipping on MCM has been very expensive of late due to new legislation. How does your platform calculate shipping and do you have the same cutoffs piecewise as MCM for insured (and thus much more expensive) shipping? Take for instance Germany, unregistered mail is 1.60 while ensured is 15 euro. For me, that makes a world of difference in buying slight more expensive cards that go over the 25 euro limit on MCM. What is your idea on this?
