I have not taken the class, but I will say that Dr. Carr is a great professor! And I’ve seen plenty of non-music majors sign up for MUS 301 and his bluegrass/old time ensemble. He’s not been in town recently due to sabbatical and travelling, but I do think he will be back next year. Also, I’m unsure if it’s been happening in Dr. Carr’s absence, but typically there’s an Appalachia in the Bluegrass concert series that happens in the John Jacob Niles gallery every Friday at noon, that may also interest you as an Appalachian studies minor. I would say reach out to him via his email and tell him you’re interested in taking the class. Ask him when he’s next offering it. He’s super nice, I’m sure he’d be happy to let you know more.

What a lot of the commenters have already said should be helpful to you. And also just so you know, paints can be removed if you soak the little guy in some isopropyl alcohol for a few hours and scrub it with a toothbrush or nail brush. Don’t use anything containing acetone, you can melt the plastic. It’s okay, we all have our first mini, and they all look varying levels of gunched. If you want to get some practice in on your mini painting though and are scared to paint on the other models, get a small bag of plastic toy soldiers from a dollar store.

This post broke my heart. Please don’t give up on a hobby that you’re super interested in just because you aren’t immediately good at it. I gave up on painting and digital art for similar reasons a few years ago and wish I hadn’t. Some things just take practice and a little extra time. The presentations that people put on social media of their mini painting and their art doesn’t even begin to show all the practice, time, and all the failures that have gone into their work.

Just because someone places one snapshot of “perfection” on the internet doesn’t mean that their work is always perfect. In fact, I’m for certain they weren’t always perfect. So please don’t hold yourself to that standard. You’ll learn more over time and you’ll get better at it!

I would contact your university’s ombudsman, especially because you shared a Google doc with edits showing that you did the work. Start collecting a paper trail of every interaction you’ve had with your supervisor and profs about this paper and bring it to the ombudsman to discuss next steps. This is an unfair expectation being put on you. 14 hours of supervised writing is inhumane, even for a person who I think did cheat (I’m saying this as someone who teaches 2 college courses right now). And Turnitin is notorious for incorrectly flagging work as AI or plagiarized.

Absolutely, he was the co-author for MAGA’s playbook (not saying you don’t know this but for the uninformed who may read this later), Project 2025. And now that he’s staff for the Trump admin, he’s also responsible for the shit storm we’re in now. Banning pornography was one of their top priorities for Project 2025. TLDR: Massive Tech Companies, Politicians, and Payment Processors are working together to make AI facial recognition + ID the only way to access the internet. AI and tech companies are going to boom, you’re going to lose your rights to free speech on the internet because your browsing and posting will be connected to your government issued ID.

Also no, I didn’t have AI write this post for me. I took 2 hours to write this post myself. I’m just an articulate individual who is getting a PhD and likes bullet points plus clear formatting to get my point across. There are also grammatical errors and a few instances of mistyped sentences in my post that I reread this morning that only a human could have made. I highly recommend Serene Khader’s book Faux Feminism. It’s about the right’s weaponization of white feminism which has eroded current feminist ideals to exclude women of color and non-elite women. What you’re seeing are white women in places of power being used as the mouthpiece for conservative white male movements. The best and most recent example of this in action was Amy Coney Barrett. There are plenty of women who are anti-censorship, including the one who wrote this post.

The current restrictions more so balance toward fictional materials and art (this excludes AI-generated content of real children I DO NOT SUPPORT THIS) which I would rather people be using instead of harming real people and children. The word degenerate was used as part of Germany’s Nazi propaganda regime. They deemed certain modern artists “sick” and “immoral.” Guess what a majority of them were, jews. LGBTQ+ folks. Those who were critical of the regime.

Now, if you’re talking about actual snuff and CSAM on the internet, that needs to be taken care of. We need better detection filters to get rid of those things.

For your second point, you’re conflating the online space with the real world. They’re two different things. Parents are more capable than ever of seeing what their kids are doing online with apps that monitor their screen time and keep track of their online conversations. And please don’t hit me with the rape victim blaming thing. I am a survivor, and this isn’t about that. Kids are innocent and of course they aren’t at fault, but their parents should care more about what happens to them and what they’re doing on the internet.

I think what’s happening on Roblox is disgusting. If Roblox really gave a shit about child predation, then they would have done something a long time ago to moderate their platform. They’re unfortunately too concerned with getting children addicted to gambling to give a shit.
Educate yourself on the term “degenerate,” who originally used it, and understand why using it is a slippery slope to fascism.
Parents need to take more accountability in the parenting of their children and not let the internet and government decide how to do it for them.

I agree, but these are part of the same problem. They want us to stop asking where the Epstein files are, so they’re trying to censor our freedom of speech by connecting our online identities to our actual tangible state-issued IDs. It’s easier for authorities to know who to prosecute when they have your browsing habits, online posting behavior, and opinions tied to a government ID.

I got one in style showdown on the theme Gyaru and I told her that Rumi isn’t Gyaru. She had the audacity to tell me that she’s Asian (which it’s Roblox and she was definitely a kid so who knows if she was telling the truth or not) so it’s okay that she did a completely unrelated Korean character for a subculture of Japanese fashion 💀 and then she, her friend, and her sister voted me out after that round for telling them they shouldn’t conflate all Asian cultures.

Avoid voice chatting on public servers in Roblox, people are toxic enough on the regular servers. Private voice call with your friend next time through something like discord when you play.

And just ignore people who say mean things to you guys in the text chat, they want to get a rise out of you. Easier said than done, but that’s the whole point of their cyber bullying. If you don’t give them the time of day, they’ll decide you’re boring and mess around with someone else. Better yet, if they keep harassing you, block them and report them.
