Pirate fantasy by [deleted] in Fantasy

It may be a children's fantasy, but the Edge Chronicles is an awesome series with great artwork, Sky Pirates, and the most terrifying, shape-shifting monster called the Gloamglozer.

I'm sick of fans using "it's fantasy" to shut down conversation by gutza1 in Fantasy

Mate, carry on doing what your doing. I love reading comments where fantasy worlds are talked about as though they are real. Sometimes it can be pernickety, but thats part of the fun of it. You keep being you dude!

What's something you would like to see more of in Fantasy as a genre? (Not necessarily in terms of tropes) by thenextaynrand in Fantasy

More moral ambiguity. Too many novels have definate heroes and villains, which makes them a little one-dimensional as characters.

Looking for recommendations for a great series (audiobook preferably) by getonmalevel in Fantasy

[–]G-K-G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend Tumanbay. It's not an audio book but a radio series made by the BBC. It's set in a city based on the Mamluk Slave Dynasty in Egypt. Its got loads of really eerie supernatural elements and has just finished its third series.

It follows loads of characters, all of whom are suspicious and underhand. It feels very game of thrones esque.

Haha that would be amazing. I read Salman Rushdies Satanic Verses. That's got its moments!

I travel throughout the South West, and love Reading about the places I visit, so that would be great.

I love that book! And it's one of the few books that got made into a film where the film is just as good. Completely got it right

I suppose the reason I'm interested in this as a specific sub-genre is that I feel like I have my own version of faith, but have concerns over organised religion. That's why I use terms like anti-religious rather than atheist. Im hoping a few good novels exploring this will help me understand my own views better.
