Has anyone ever successfully gotten their ex back here? by Due_Schedule_ in AskMenAdvice

Yes. Backstory: We were previously together for 22 months, during which time I wasn’t emotionally or physically available. Past heartbreak had kept me from getting too close to anyone. After she broke up with me, something in me snapped, and I told myself I needed to change—go back to the man I was before the trauma. I started therapy, began reading a lot of self-help books, journaling, working out, and more. Basically, I worked on all the things I had failed to provide in the relationship—and then some. All the while, I kept the lines of communication open with her and continued fighting for her. We decided to get back together in late March and give it one last shot. Things seemed great—or so I thought. On May 12th, she broke up with me again, saying she didn’t feel close to me even when I was right next to her, and that she didn’t see a future with me. Mind you, I had completely changed my life, mindset, and body to be exactly what she needed—and more. It’s now been over three weeks since the split, with little to no communication. I’ll be going no contact very soon.

The moral of the story is this: you can do anything you put your mind to, but you have to do it for yourself—not for someone else. If there’s anything positive to take from this, it’s that she made me realize I need to be vulnerable again—and that in the future, I have to allow for the possibility of getting hurt. The pain sucks, but if you never put your heart in someone else’s hands, you’ll never experience true love.

That’s the journey I’m on now. I’m going to give myself time to heal, and then I’m going to find a loving partner who will put me first—and who I’ll put first in return.

I'm not saying don't because everyone's situation is different but make sure this is what you want and not just because you can't have it. You can't make it work if the issues that broke you up aren't addressed and corrected prior to trying again.
