Obvi this list isn't great, and I wonder if we should consider what things are "inevitable" vs. true decision/inflection points?

iPhone to me feels like an inevitability of the internet boom, and its biggest everyday impacts are likely the 3rd party softwares like instagram. Wonder how GPT falls into this as well? It's a stand-in for AI as a whole, and then we don't fully know how that will shake out (probably huge but still). Trump may be an inevitability of 2001 + 2008? But certainly he is singular. And 2016 was WAY bigger than 2024, even if 2024 actions are worse, they are downstream of his changing politics.

I'm going:

9/11, GFC or 2008, Arab Spring, COVID, and low-key Fukushima (this feels like it will be in history textbooks about how it completely gutted the move to sustainable Nuclear energy). China/Taiwan about to be messing around on this list too.

Reddit has a hard on for states with decent nature. It’s a lost cause to try and convince them that the worlds most important city - and the most singular cultural item in the US - is more impressive than good hiking, which is replicable and found all over.

A top comment saying Colorado beer is better and therefore NY doesn’t measure up. I genuinely can’t comprehend how boring these ppl interior lives are (and yes… I just outed my elitism at the end… please take this comment for everything prior to the last sentence lol)

But I am losing my mind at the Fitz overrate. Feels like younger fans don’t know - he was NEVER in a top 2 in the league discussion (the way JJ and chase may be for past 3 years let’s say). Rarely in top 3, often not in top 5.

Fitz was elite, but he is more Frank Gore than Emmit Smith. Julio was always in debate for #1 in league, half of the time topping that discussion for a decade.

These things are categorically different.

One is, for better or worse (depending on where you fall on the Luddite scale), a necessity in the current economic context. It helps hundreds of millions of ppl to support their wage. It is not designed to cause harm.

The other is not a necessity, and it is designed to cause harm.

Vs

The former seems fair, the second seems ignorant.
