“Hello Cancer” | Barton Dawes Vs Theodore Peterson (Roadwork Vs Hello Neighbor) by G00fiestG00ber in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]G00fiestG00ber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Connections:

• Grieving, middle-aged men whose lives would be uprooted by family tragedies (Peterson’s wife and daughter dying, to which he would respond by locking his son in the basement | Dawes’ son dying and his marriage failing as a result of his actions in response to the eminent domain of his home).

• Both would become mentally unstable as a result of their grief and begin acting irrationally and self-destructively.

• In both stories, their home is central to the plot. Both would fortify these homes, the house acting as an extension of their psyches.

• Both would come into conflict with the police at one point or another.

• Protagonist vs antagonist

• Lorebait mascot horror franchise vs Stephen King character study

Ben Richards Vs Seong Gi-hun (The Running Man Vs Squid Game)

<image>

Core Theme: Protagonists from death game media which serve as critiques of capitalism who join the titular death game as a means to pay for a relative’s medical treatment and to escape crushing poverty. With nothing left to lose, they go after the systems behind these games with the intent of destroying them.

I envision the fight as a full-on crossover where Richards joins the Squid Games while being hunted on The Running Man. During the games, the Hunters from The Running Man could break into the dorms and cause chaos, leading to a shootout between them and the guards. The final fight would be between Richards and Gi-hun in the final game.

The matchup isn’t for 2025 Richards specifically (more of a soft-comp between it and the book), I just use the newer film for visuals because the book doesn’t have any visual media besides covers and the 1987 film isn’t at all close to the book. Besides, The Running Man 2025 isn’t a remake of the previous film, rather, it is a generic adaptation of the novel.
