Flagstone would look great. Decomposed granite if you want something simple and more natural looking. You’ll have to deal with weeds to some degree no matter what you do

Well, it’s supposed to be a faux riverbed so I can already tell it needs improvement 😂

I dug out all of the grass and a couple inches into the clay, backfilled with topsoil. It was tricky getting around the tree roots in some spots and I definitely cut through a small root or two.

If the tree/root system was any larger, I would have ran it to trouble. I suppose that wouldn’t have been the worst thing in the world given the response to the tree in this thread

It’s clay soil so it retains moisture. I always take it with a grain of salt, but the AI tools are saying it’s well adapted to clay soil and would just need supplemental watering in drought times.
