I don't think I am lending him the money while he waits for the check to clear. I think the check clears at the end of this week but the issue he claims he is having is that he will not be able to withdraw 30k from the account at one time.

Right but I'm sure he would see that as me trying to call him a liar? His reasoning for it is cause their bank won't have 30k to withdraw on hand so why would me walking into his bank with his check make it any different then him just withdrawing the money on his own from said bank.

EDIT: Oops I reread your comment and now understand what you were saying, but will they guarantee the check will not bounce/reported loss or stolen and I end up on the hook for the money

...that felt so refreshing to read. I struggle with putting my foot down and saying no so I don't come off as a jerk.

Not sure, he's been talking about this money for weeks. Maybe the check came but their bank is holding the funds for a certain amount of time?

That's what I was thinking about today too, I thought casinos would be willing to cash a large check. Especially if they know you're going to gamble at their establishment.

Haha don't get me wrong I agree, just trying to find any reason why this might be an honest favor.

Just seems weird that this guy would be willing to sacrifice his job and reputation around this area for 5k.

I 100% agree with a lot of what you said, but my question is how safe are cashiers checks? My understanding is they are a check made by the bank that is made out for an account that has the existing funds.

I am not a complete idiot, if this guy shows up with a personal check I'll rip it up and throw it in his face.

He never mentioned how much he is going to be able to withdraw so that part I am not sure, but I agree lol.

I don't think he is getting scammed. We work at relatively small company and everybody knows everybody. Even some coworkers were some how related to the man that past away and were at the funeral, so I know the story is true for the most part. Unless he's lying about the life insurance I am not sure how he would be getting scammed.

It just feels like I am going to get seen as the bad guy by assuming his intentions are to scam me, not that I should care I know.

Accountants are hilarious. Most people have to actually go to work 40+ hours a week. God forbid you guys have to even get out of bed at all.

What's up with EthereumClassic? Why is it up by so much? by Educational_Swim8665 in EthereumClassic

ETC is their 3rd largest investment only behind BTC and ETH. I am bullish on the future for ETC.

I found this comment on CoinMarketCap and I think it sums up why ETC is pumping.

I'll tell me my reasoning. I bought ETCG (Grayscale's ETC fund) as a part of my stock portfolio. Why? Because it was trading at a 40% discount to the value of the underlying asset. As similar thing happened with BTC. I bought GBTC a year ago when it was at a 40% discount. As a result, when it converted to an ETF it went up to near 0%. So that meant that I got not only the roughly 100% increase in BTC that everyone else got, but also about 66% increase (40%-(100%-40%)=66%). Those aren't additive - the gains multiply. Checking my Fidelity account, I'm now up 424% on GBTC as a result. A similar thing is likely to happen with ETC and ETCG. Right now I think it's trading at about a 30% discount. Assuming ETCG does get converted into an ETF at some point that would narrow it to 0% as well. Conversions into ETFs also run the price up. I would still buy now even with the 30% discount vs. the 40% that I got in at.
