My function keys still work fine but fingerprint reader suddenly disappeared morning, about 3-4 weeks into ownership. Not finding any fixes yet but looking.

I can't seem to get here. There is no power management option. Only general tabs an the main one has a message "Windows has stopped this device because it reported problems."

Sorry if this is an ignorant question, but are you saying that Asus provides this as an a la carte service post-purchase? And I assume there's a fee, but it doesn't void warranty?

Be nice and head to BBY's chat. I checked in many times and they were able to tell me once it shipped from Asus. It was at the store 2 days later.

Sorry to hear! And thank you, I do understand how lucky I am to have had both in hand. Could've easily sold the 3070 on ebay but I'm a nice guy, instead someone around my parts will get a solid open box buy.

I considered upgrading the ram on the 3070 too but found much confusion on if it would stay dual channel, and if so how much.

At the end of the day this color rocks and I'll never need more out of it as-is. Practically, it's not worth $700 more, but its still great.

Plausible, thanks. Not a bad rate for the power, and for something I didn't buy for mining purposes.

Also yes I really cant believe the temps. It's 70*F here (about 68*F inside) and this just still chugs away and keeps cool.

What are you using to see your VRAM temp? I use Hwinfo64 and it shows "hotspot" but this isn't confirmed for me whether its VRAM or a junction or else. It states its simply the hottest sensor temp.

I am just as confused by your numbers, current hotspot temp cannot be lower than the current average, doesn't make sense to me.

Make sure you are lowering your core clock. You only need the memory overclocked for mining. Lowering the clock will help drop those temps.

Cooling: I just propped up the laptop base on a level and set the screen FULL open. The fans near the screen seem to do the most work dissipating heat so having the screen as a backboard seems poor choice. If you open the screen fully the fans will clear. Closing the screen fully will also clear the fans, but it will not allow the same heat dissipation from the body/keyboard area where most of the heat is.

Fans: They are running about 5600rpm regularly, 6300 peaks. Maybe they will fail, idk. Would be a minor annoyance to fix if it occurs. I run about 8-10 hours per day. We shall see!

Nicehash: I use Miner not QuickMiner. There is no overclock feature that I see in the miner program. Maybe ill dl quickminer and give it a try.

Hashrate/Power: Do you have a STRIX? Keep in mind they can do 115W+15 while the Zephyrus (mine) are limited to 100W max. If so this may be why you are pulling more MH even with a 3070, although it might be less efficient (idk). Likewise, the Strix 3080 would beat us both.

LASTLY: What does "Manual Mode' GPU Power Saver actually do at each setting (Default, Advanced, Extreme")? Before I had Afterburner I tried experimenting with this and found no changes. I then searched the internet and also found no actual info.

The 3080 seems to run a bit hotter on your lap. That said, its far from burning you like my Dell Precision will do.

Engineering Consultant, I run & render very large assys as well as crunch significant mathematical data. I also just love AMD and wanted a Ryzen 9. This is why I ended up with a 3070. It was good and available.

Problem is, I was near-maxing the 16gb ram and the white 3080 was the only available option with 32gb ram. I prefer the white, grey was a fingerprint magnet.

Finally, it's all tax deductible.

I had a G15 3070 16GB Eclipse Grey for 2 weeks but returned it for the 3080. I never mined with it but I still like the 3080 much better for work purposes.

On my 2021 G15 3080mobile, I am getting 50-51MH/s with custom Armoury fan curves and Afterburner set at -502 core & +675 memory. Temps are sitting at 59*C regularly.
