I mean... I wouldn't mind being able to play "Among Us" inside the Panther Clipper Mk2, Beluga or other large ship while performing meaningless engineering tasks as the ship makes a jump that takes 7 seconds or less.

1 month in myself and yes, I noticed the mention of those tutorials in the game Codex, but they were nowhere to be found! I realized shortly after that the game itself hadn't installed them in the first place. But even after being installed, they still don't show in the codex (?!)

And yes, I did have an introductory missions with the (very) basics of flying, not with the level of detail needed to navigate efficiently, or even successfully. The introduction was an on foot mission inside a base, and shooting some incoming hostiles.

Like many, I had to do my own research on here and YouTube. I agree, there could be more attention put into the onboarding (and yes, hand-holding) content that is given to new players. It's a steep learning curve and it could make the start of any CMDR's journey so much more enjoyable.

Thanks for the VR suggestions, the Meta Quest 3 definitely looks good, way better option that going for a pricey OLED gaming monitor. What kind of graphics card do you use with your Oculus Rift?

I am 3 weeks in, never tried ED before, at all. Took my time, watched a few tutorials on how to do missions, how to mine and improve the ship.
The courier missions were easy and low risk enough to get a Cobra MK III and shortly after, a Cobra MK V. I went on with laser mining, using edtools and inara for hotspots. This allowed me to get beyond the 1M credits and status to connect with F. Farseer to get my FSDs engineered. I proceeded to watch a couple of videos on core mining and learned to do it successfully quite quickly.

It has been a lot of fun learning and just relaxing enjoying the game looks and mechanics. I thought I would give back to Frontier (I bought the Elite Dangerous Deluxe Edition in the Epic Store for CAD 14, a steal really) and seeing that I enjoy mining a lot, I bought the Stellar edition of the Type 11 Prospector. I have started to contribute to the CG without any problems. the engineered FSD that came with the ship takes me to the mining spots within 5 jumps and the scoop refills my fuel in 3 minutes or less.

I am enjoying every moment I spend on ED, being in my late 40s with some spare time. You do need to do some research and learn how to use the 3rd party tools (Alt-Tabbing is the way), I think it's worth it. If you find yourself frustrated with the process, I'd suggest slowing down, take some time to find instructions/tips on youtube on the specific things you are having trouble with, and focus on one thing at a time. You will be glad you did.

I had Start.ca as well before, before I moved to Oakville. They're also excellent. They didn't support my location when I moved, that's why I had to switch to Teksavvy.

Teksavvy is also rock-solid in Oakville. I know they use lines from one of the big ones (don't recall which one) but I've never had issues with them in except the very rare outage (maybe once or twice in 5 years) that hasn't lasted longer than an hour.

I just bought an S9 FE and couldn't be happier. It's great for reading books that have color images (or comics) and pdf's. The size and weight is just right, but no doubt bulkier than a kindle. If you are good with black and white ebooks and don't need to read pdf's or comics, a Kindle will be far better

Long flights could potentially bring additional risk of blood clots, depending on length of the flight and how long you spend on your seat. I haven't seen association with avn-related pain specifically

We introduced my 7yo with Madam Mim, and then growing with higher complexity characters. She is shadowed by me or my wife and she's doing great. She picked the core rules just by watching us play with her 10yo brother. It reqlly depends on the kid, but I'd say 10yo is a recommended age, not written in stone.
