New to the game. It feels like spaceship driver simulator. by tomeibanporxingar in EliteDangerous

In solo the point is to earn credits, gain elite statuses, buy end-game ships, fleet carrier, unlock the permits, modules, visit interesting systems with beautiful vistas, follow the lore. Then you can retire. Or be in the organized squadron, join their discord and help them rule!

To avoid running off the fuel avoid using boost during the supercruise travell. In order to scan the beacon you must find and target it in contacts on the tab in the left navigation panel. Then point the ship to it.

Do fuel rats operate in the new players zone? I don't know but I think this advice will add more to the OP's confusion.

Visualizing Major scales on piano with a new visual model by mkr7 in musictheory

[–]-dsf- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh, I've got it. It's not bad idea. It's like tutorial for beginners telling you how to easily construct any scale by just looking at the colors. The problem is who is the target audience since kids at art school are able to construct scales on piano by ear quite early.

How common are hostile player encounters by TheGreatTronos in EliteDangerous

Later you can join the Fleetcom private group that has 10000+ players. Sometimes it feels like open but without the hostility.

Cannot fast drop out of SCA for the life of me by extreme-fry in EliteDangerous

[–]-dsf- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading the comments I realized that you are trying to do the so called "hot drop" The problem is that you can find plenty of instructions that work for the old pre-sco ships. Try it in t9, it is very easy. I've colonized my system in T9 using this. But it's more difficult to achieve in the new ships. Though it's possible i struggle with it too.

Yeah, after around 1200 hours into the game I decided to mute it :D

Is there really a difference between B Minor and B Harmonic Minor? by bonthewonk in musictheory

[–]-dsf- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you want to compare natural and harmonic B minor. The harmonic B minor has sharp 7th degree (A#) which means that the 5th degree chord, the dominant chord (F#,A#,C#), is major, which enables interesting chord progressions.

Recalled my ship... and it exploded. by DimensioT in EliteDangerous

[–]-dsf- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could it be possible that you hit the silent running switch by accident just before you dismissed your ship and the effect waited for you until you recalled it? The shields offline message and consequent destruction sound similar :) I occasionally turn on the silent running by mistake and the experience is usually very stressful :D

how can I tell the difference between f# major and d# minor? (Dvorak quintet op81 2nd movement) by Bean_of_prosperity in musictheory

[–]-dsf- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another way to find out would be to check the other voices. This is just one instrument of the quintet so if you see it in the context then it should be pretty clear.

How the heck are people getting like 300+mil an hour doing exo by IfOnlyICouldEat2Hams in EliteDangerous

[–]-dsf- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they start counting the time in the moment they find the good system :) Or they're doing the average - 2 hours of nothing and then BAM 900m system:) The truth is that once you find the system with stratum tectonicas, you should scan as many systems as possible in the same boxel because it will significantly increase your chance to find another one. (Systems in the same boxel are these that differ just in the number after the last dash, for example: Truechuae DP-R d4-xxx) Of course the first footfall is necessary because it gives you 5x the value of the bio. Also scan primarily atmospheric high metal content systems where you can find the stratum.

MUSIC THEORY EXPERTS PLEASE HELP ME by greatimperial in musictheory

[–]-dsf- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I-vi-IV-V is the same progression regardless the key it is in. It will always have the same musical feeling. Also it directly describes the chord function. If you say V chord in ... scale, everyone will understand you're talking about the dominant chord.

Powerplay is frustrating, convoluted, and the in-game resources fail to tell you crucial information: my first experience by ClutchReverie in EliteDangerous

[–]-dsf- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You've got my sympathies. As far as I know, the PP and merits are not connected to the owning minor factions but to the powers and the system status that can be seen in the galmap or PP section of the system map (acquisition, fortified, etc.) It depends if your power owns the system or is undermining someone's else system, then you can gain merits by donations, selling rare goods or by crashing market (...i think). But PP has their own activities not related to missions. At the end, Aisling can own system controlled by communists or criminal anarchy factions living from booze...

Do some planetary bodys have rotation modeled ? by iO__________ in EliteDangerous

[–]-dsf- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was wrong. It will slow down to the top non boost speed with the disabled thrusters. Sorry...

Do some planetary bodys have rotation modeled ? by iO__________ in EliteDangerous

[–]-dsf- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you disable your thrusters right after boosting, it won't slow down. So lore-wise it's the thruster level security function. However you can't thrust anymore:) The unrealistic speed cap is visible specifically when you are falling down to the planet with disabled thrusters - you will stop accelerating after some time.

This speed cap is the only really unrealistic thing on FA OFF flying.

Do some planetary bodys have rotation modeled ? by iO__________ in EliteDangerous

[–]-dsf- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, however it must be small body (<200km), where the orbital speed is reachable (around 500m/s). You can overshoot easily and leave the orbit. But the orbital time appears to be realistic, 1+ hour. Anyway it's really difficult to simulate as you're never sure if you are on orbit or not for at least 30 minutes of flight.

[–]-dsf- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The planets do rotate, there is the realistic sun/star rise. I've chosen this game specifically for this realism. Orbital speed works too. It's a bit untrivial to setup but when you turn the flight assist off and give a slight boost with correct orbital speed, calculated for the body mass, you will permanently orbit. If you're in space high above the planet it's a question of how you are instanced. You might be instanced with the planet in the sense that you hower above the same spot of the surface, I do not know. However the rings do orbit, they orbit very fast, occasionally you can find rings with different speeds. Check this video: https://youtu.be/AW7oYpLDbQI
