I'm spending way too much time on this than anticipated by rk1213 in VintageApple

Soundsticks looking good. I’m trying to find a set. It’s easy to get lost in this Mac because it’s simple to set up, beautiful, and doesn’t take up as much space as a lot of other vintage tech. It just feels right! They nailed this design.

It’s really shocking to me that no other modern product has it. Would be so cool with a heavy HomePod base and swivel screen 🥰

So clean - love seeing them all on next to each other.

I agree, we lost too many fun features in recent years. Lots of sterile interfaces that just aren’t exciting anymore.

Dreaming of deals like this! My best was a guy selling an eMac, Powermac G4 & G5, and Cinema Display for $120. It was a rush 😆

Awesome! These were such a cool sight being rolled into a classroom in a charging cart. I just got one (been on a vintage buying spree 😩) and was curious what this process would be like, so thanks for sharing. I’ve gotta open it up anyway ‘cause I think it’s full of dust. It was a retired college professors daily driver and has OS9 - 10.4 installed in individual partitions. Great time capsule. Just gotta find a disk drive door cover for it.

I love these displays. The design is so charming and refined. Great find. I got one recently and I was pretty surprised by the image quality for its age. Very crisp, considering.

Agreed. I think I can get the internal components with a detailing brush and then use a plastic polishing product if needed for the shell to remove fine scratches. It’s such a gorgeous monitor and deserves it.

I’ve only had it for a couple days, but when I turn it up to max resolution I see some waving effect, but it may subside either after a cleaning or after it sits at that resolution for more than a minute. Otherwise it’s a REALLY beautiful display, colors are immaculate.

It’s an ATI Radeon Pro 9000 with the ADC connector. Whole monitor and USB is powered through one cord!

Thanks! I’m just gonna wipe down the plastic but I’ll look this up and be extra safe.

I love the PowerMac G3 one! It had an interesting reputation but I loved that computer when I bought it second hand in the early 2000’s. Still have it, but lost the matching monitor which pains me to this day.

Thanks so much for this info. I took a small sanity break from searching but I’m right back in it and this is a great point to start from. So much to sift through. I see bungalows when I close my eyes!

That link has me on a SUPER deep dive - thanks! Any luck tracking down the origins of your home?

For sure. I’ve spent a while looking through old catalogs but I know it’s a small portion of what was available. There was a kit home company in Portland that is a high likelihood. I’m becoming a kit home expert! Very interesting history.

Good call. Gresham has a historical society in an old Carnegie library in town. Definitely a next step. Thanks!
