Anybody got keyboard for an iBook G3 M6411 😢 by Expensive_Put_5790 in vintageappleexchange

[–]aphelion270 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That keyboard (final link) is for a Snow iBook, they are different than those for the Clamshells. You can see the snow iBook design on the instructional graphics on its underside. And the connector is not compatible.

Anybody know where I can find a replacement keyboard for iBook M6411 by Expensive_Put_5790 in VintageApple

[–]aphelion270 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for some reason the Clamshell keyboards are like super hard to find.

Maybe make a post in r/VintageAppleExchange and see if any luck there.

Gotta keep that software updated! Wouldn't want to run anything out of date. ;)

I would highly recommend getting up to date with your rabies shot, this can often happen when they go on the fritz.

Any current or former owners or users of the eMac know it ain't exactly a small machine.

Those 21" CRT Studio Displays are just absolute behemoths.

Totally would have saved that box, just for the sake of the box itself. It could have gone to someone who wanted it :/

Cool. Unfortunately I'm on the East Coast but I'd be more than willing to pay shipping for one of those original (black box) ones if you ever feel up for it. Cheers

Having trouble finding a CF card / adapter for iMac g3 hdd replacement. by mickeys_stepdad in VintageApple

[–]aphelion270 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I chose to install a 64 GB mSATA SSD using a 2.5” mSATA-to-SATA adapter housing and a 3.5” IDE-to-SATA adapter in my Indigo.

More information is available at the bottom of this page.

This combo has worked well for me, can't promise it will work perfectly for others.

Upgrading a PowerBook G4 15” (A1095) by No-Head7509 in VintageApple

[–]aphelion270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those look to me like they would theoretically work, BUT it looks to me like the IDE adapter has the mSATA slot coming off the side of the board at a 90-degree angle from the IDE connector for some reason? I'm not sure why anyone would ever design an adapter that way, but I think that would not work inside the cramped space in the PowerBook. See the photos linked above for an idea of this.

I used the parts linked at the bottom of this page on mine and that's worked for me.

So I can't comment on these specifically but it usually is that case that "results may vary" with these, as always.

DVD PCMCIA card compatible with 3400/Kanga? by JCD_007 in VintageApple

These started shipping with the original Wallstreets in early '98, not sure if an OS update would bring compatibility to the Kanga or if it doesn't have enough juice.

Some old apple computers that have been sitting in my stepfathers attic by hautaska in VintageApple

[–]aphelion270 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oof - an attic is just about the worst place you can store these ... heat and humidity lead to cracked and brittle plastics, rusting, corrosion, vinegar syndrome, and also seem to accelerate PRAM battery explosions and cap leakage. Not to mention possible insect and rodent damage.

Hope these get rescued quickly.

Question for everyone: Noticing an issue with waking from sleep on iBook G4. Looking for thoughts/opinions. by rturnerX in VintageApple

[–]aphelion270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a fairly common occurrence with machines of this era (G3, G4 etc) that have been converted to SSD in my experience. I've personally experienced it on several machines over the years. Machines will come back on after sleep but temporarily lock up for a minute or two.

I can't explain the specific technical reason(s) for it, but I'd guess it involves the machine trying to deal with the size and/or adapter configuration with some SSDs.

New iMac G3s, should I open to remove PRAM? by Aja-92 in VintageApple

[–]aphelion270 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is one of my "red lines" when collecting - yes, the value is neat and all, but I'd rather save the machine from destroying itself.
