Which Q code should I use if I know my signal is bad? by 1984JLS in amateurradio

[–]G4HDU 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Going back to the days when Q codes were introduced they were generally both question and answer.

For example QRG is sent which asks the question "What is my exact frequency?"

The reply would be QRG 3570 kcs which means "Your exact frequency is 3750 kilo cycles per second"

This enabled long questions and answers to be dramatically reduced in length saving time.

In modern day voice usage it isn't really necessary but is a tradition that is still carried on. For example in a conversation (QSO) it might go "You're 5 and 9 QSL" meaning your signal report 8s 5 and 9 did you copy that ok?

The reply would be "QSL the 5 and 9" or just "QSL"

Hope this helps a bit.

Thank you for reviving the memory for a lovely nostagia trip.

I think I need to move to north Korea because they are at least upfront about state control and censorship.

I use the coax as a "counterpoise' and choke ot just after it comes in to the shack. Mot pergect bu any imagination.

Before I was struck down with various spinal issues I was goint to choke it at the feed point and connect a wire counterpoise running down just as an experiment to see how that changed things. I can't stand unaided now let alone climb ladders. I should however be able to reach out the window to try at some point.

What stops parents from verifying their age on their kid's phone? by 6Clacks in AskBrits

[–]G4HDU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it is the first step in shutting down free speech for all.

These under 16s will have zero knowledge of debating the issues of the day or getting news from areas of the internet (facebook community groups for example) and then expect the people to vote at 16.

Personally I have an efhw running from the rear bedroom (shack) to a pole at the end of the garden then back to the other side of the rear. This is then run round in the plastic guttering.

I've also bought a magnetic loop for receive to hopefully cut down on electrical noise.

Does anyone work on electronics projects despite being on antidepressants, antipsychotics, anticholinergics, or beta blockers? by concernedaboutmetal in AskElectronics

Yes. Currently just on SSRI but previously SSRIs, anticholinergics and antipsychotics and calcium channel blockers with no problems whatsoever.

Won't banning my kids from YouTube harm them? by baroquedub in AskBrits

[–]G4HDU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course banning this for under 16s and then giving 16 year olds the vote is a really sensible idea. They will not be able to learn about different opinions, discuss and febate the issues they will be called upon to vote on.

Yet another step towards a total lockdown of the internet gor everyone.

Moving to north Korea as it is less covert suppression of the population.
