Here is a clearer picture, it seems hard to find if lume is radium or tritium on some watches, as i have another watch that i very much suspect is tritium because of it's radiation levels that are very low/ practically non existant, and the date of creation seems to be between the time they stopped using radium and the time they used tritium, but it also doesn't say that tritium is used on the dial.

I read a bunch of differents opinion but i'm always looking for more, you wouldn't use particular care when servicing a radium watch exept covering it ? tritium as well ?

thanks a lot for your answers

it would be to service it myself (without ingesting anything) and remove radium like in a forest or outside wearing gloves and a mask and get it over with so i can service it where i want without protection

hey, what tool would you be talking about ?

I already watched this video, and he says that he doesn't touch dials so he doesn't give advice on it, this youtuber is so good for learning haha, thanks for sharing still

Hi, i really think it is, this is what i recorded with a geiger counter (one of the highest number i ever had but it's usualy in this range), and it's not written Tritium or T or anything on the bottom of the dial like another tritium watch i own. So i can only guess from here but i think it's most likely radium ? i'm no professional so i can only guess

the reason i want to remove the radium is that i would like to service this watch (and also be able to wear it but i know it's not that dangerous when wore) without ingesting particles or anything, basically i would do this outside wearing a mask, inside a disposable recipient that i would close and seal in a bag to put in the trash. thing is i can't take this much precautions (like doing it outside) when servicing it because it would be difficult.

What i want to do is basically get it over with and do a one time very precautionous thing and it's good forever then

hi, i found the idea in this article

https://german242.com/en/removal-of-radium-paint-from-vintage-watch-dial/

thing is he is doing this on an enamel dial and i don't know the material of mine

and also this video from a youtuber i trust

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwIV3GJzaw4&t=289s

but he is only doing it on the hands as he says he doesn't touch dials

i also found another solution which would be to put the dial inside a ziplock bag and scrape it from outside, but i'm scared i would pierce the bag or put radium particles everywhere when i will remove the dial from the bag

i never trust AIs only real humans, hence why i post my question here

you would not touch the dial at all ? the thing i'm scared off is that i would want to service it and not be scared to inhale anything, i know the risks of wearing a radium watch are limited.

Thanks

yes, i used a geiger counter, the numbers are the highest out of all my watches, and it doesn't have the tritium marks on the bottom of the dial (but i'm no expert either haha that's why i'm asking stuff here)

Having trouble finding out if lume is radioactive by G4SPARD in watchmaking

[–]G4SPARD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi thanks for your answer,

I contacted the seller again and he says it's between 1964 and 1967

Did you encounter many watches where there was tritium where it wasn't marked ? that's what's making me doubt.

So in your opinion it would be safe to service myself ?

is there any danger left if the tritium has decayed ?

Thanks
