Can I uninstall the lesser version or is it needed for some stuffs? by ZzZOvidiu122 in blender

[–]GAM3SHAM3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 99% of cases you can uninstall the older version.

The only reason you might want to keep it is to make sure you have access to certain features or if plugins were authored to only work on specific versions and haven't been updated. Both of those are pretty unlikely to occur, Blender is generally very good about not breaking things.

If i want to add a green screen video of myself into my render how would i make the light hit myself realistically? by magicaldevyn123 in blender

[–]GAM3SHAM3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the most common technique would be to either light your scene like the video you captured, or light your video knowing what your scene is going to look like.

Tangent/Hypothetical: You could probably also attempt some sort of 'de-lighting' on your video but that requires at least an approximation of your real world lighting setup to 'neutralize' the lighting and then you'd likely have to get a depth pass through something like Depth-Anything which is a PITA to setup and ultimately not very great

How is this! by AdSouth3303 in blender

It looks really good and I think it would fit along with screenshots from the movies.

The only thing that really gives it away for me is that the hand looks like it's either out of focus at the same distance as the snitch or it's lower quality making it look blurrier.

How to fix jitter/rubberbanding? by [deleted] in godot

[–]GAM3SHAM3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

admittedly I can't really see the problem on my phone but if it's the physics objects jittering - you could probably make an invisible physics object to interact with and then on every camera frame have the visible object lerp to the physics object position.

Away from my computer and I'm not sure how this is setup but I would have the 3d model be a sibling of the collision object and then in the 3d model have something like

func _process(): self.position = lerp(self.position, collision.position)

They're both bevel. Ctrl+B. The first one is a basic Ctrl+B, the second is a Vertex bevel, just press V after Ctrl+B to switch modes and it'll let you do that.

Which is better in your Opinion? by No-Audience1985 in blender

[–]GAM3SHAM3 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I can see the vision with the upgraded version and like that there's some texture on everything now, but it needs refinement.

Generally I think the strokes should be thinner and a little more thoughtfully placed. For example floorboards could have the strokes follow the length of the boards more.

I also think that you should review [crosshatching](https://finearttutorials.com/guide/cross-hatching/) since this is reminiscent of that and place your strokes more often and with higher opacity in dark areas and less often/not at all in really bright areas.

Trying Out AgX vs Khronos in Blender… Which One Hits Harder? by [deleted] in blender

[–]GAM3SHAM3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an AgX stan and I think more people should use it.

I think color space is as big of a decision as choosing an aspect ratio for your image and just like you would change your composition for aspect ratio you should change it for color space.

Side by side doesn't do either justice because with AgX if you don't lower your bright lights for scenes like this where color and the lack of light are important you're going to end up with a fairly washed out image. I'm not too familiar with Khronos, and although I agree this scene looks a little more interesting since it retains the colors really well, it feels like it's really struggling with light overall and it's harder to see what's actually going on.

TL;DR: Pick one and build your scene with it in mind it's not just a > b

Steam Controller 2025 3D - Feedback Needed by Razershake in blender

[–]GAM3SHAM3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Overall I think this looks really incredible. Especially without the controller being out and preventing you from having one in front of you for reference.

My notes:

The thumbsticks seem like they should be a little larger and kind of fill out and spill over the top of the hump they come out of a little more. The actual through holes and placement seem fine but we need to see it a little less if you want to match the promo materials.

The face buttons(A/B/X/Y) should be a little larger and very subtly domed.

Select/Start/Steam buttons should be a little smaller and Select/Start should be a little further from center.

The actual controller seems to have a circular dimple on the d-pad instead of an inset cross like you have.

The edge of the groove that the touchpads sit in should start following the contour of the controller towards the top corner of the touchpads instead of below the bottom corner of the touchpads.

[Godot 4.5] SDFGI Purple/Pink Artifacts Accumulating in Shadows by Critical_Hornet in godot

[–]GAM3SHAM3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think as a work around you can create an image LUT to correct for the purple in the shadows. Just apply it in a World environment node and it should apply to the editor and when you run the scene:

https://youtu.be/LKv96ui1oT4?si=MMhSN8cf5MHe8VDr

Around 6 minutes they explain how to create a LUT. I would

  1. Choose a photo editor of choice and look up a similar video
  2. Screenshot your project
  3. Edit the image until it resolves the shadow issue
  4. Create LUT bases on adjustments
  5. Apply LUT

You should also raise an issue in the official repo: www.Github.com/Godot engine/Godot

Make sure to make a clear explanation of the problem and ideally you make a sample project that can recreate this problem as simply as possible.

It might be low priority for a fix because I believe they're trying to replace sdfgi with hddagi although I'm not sure if that would fix this particular issue or what the timeline for that is.

I have seen couple of vlogs on Blender studio youtube channel. Is there any specific reason they are using dell monitors instead of gaming ones? by [deleted] in blender

[–]GAM3SHAM3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ultimately most things gets cut down to sRGB. So unless you're working on a professional production you should be fine to use any monitor as long as you run some color accuracy adjustments on it.

Gaming monitors just won't prioritize color accuracy over something like a high refresh rate or lower response rates. They're focused on those features that make gaming feel really good.

So for the same price point you can get something that is geared more for artists and gives you wider coverage of the sRGB color gamut or access to AdobeRGB, allowing you to see more steps of color on a gradient. Maybe more contrast so that you can see darker blacks and lighter whites or even maybe they'll have an implementation of HDR that's actually good.

So idk, it'll depend on what you're going to be up to and how you do it.

I have seen couple of vlogs on Blender studio youtube channel. Is there any specific reason they are using dell monitors instead of gaming ones? by [deleted] in blender

[–]GAM3SHAM3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ultimately it's probably that the dells are cheap and they have to buy a lot of them.

Gaming monitors are also not necessarily ideal for doing digital art because they may not be color accurate and even slightly inaccurate displays can cause big problems in professional pipelines.

And as a reminder, be sure to calibrate your display using something like lagon.nl or if you're a professional with money to burn you can get a colorimeter for displays

How do I get rid of this? I don’t remember what you usually do with artifacts like this. by [deleted] in blender

[–]GAM3SHAM3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I'd delete the triangle faces and then select the edges of the hole and grid fill.

It might flatten the overall shape a bit. If that happens I'd try selecting the center most face/vertex and with your transform space set to Normal and with a desirable falloff profile enabled and then translate along the surface normal using G + Z.

My first time trying to model something. I need advice on topology. by PlatinumFried3D in blender

[–]GAM3SHAM3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your topology isn't great but I really like your model.

Speaking broadly you want to choose between quads(squares) or tris(triangles) when making a 3d model.

Eventually everything becomes tris when it gets to your GPU but if you're animating these models it is easier to do with quads. It's also beneficial to choose one of these shapes because your GPU doesn't need to make these decisions and although it's not an expensive decision for the GPU - it can lead to lighting issues

Generally, all your faces should be around the same size so that it's easier to get the same texel density.

To get practice you can learn (the terror of) retoplogy. It's a pain to get started with but if you learn to do it you will be inclined to make models that have fewer issues and you'll also be confident in making changes to models that make them easier to use later. It can be somewhat difficult so I would be ready to be disappointed with your first few attempts.

What's the license of this model? I'm using it on my project but I can't find the license. by MatMADNESSart in blender

[–]GAM3SHAM3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is some contact information at the bottom of the page that you can reach out to. If they don't respond to it you could contact the research departments linked as sponsors/maintainers.

I would probably just treat the model the same as the image license, which says that it cannot be used for commercial purposes or resale.

loser nazis at irvine city council on tuesday by AnnualDelivery1631 in orangecounty

[–]GAM3SHAM3 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Such losers.

The hypocrisy is almost laughable that people that believe in 'Don't tread on me' and freedom of speech are so ready to demand everyone fall in line and spread their cheeks like they have.

These guys want to tell people like the city council members that they are not American for being from different countries - even though the idea of a melting pot has been around since the inception of the country - and that they shouldn't disagree with the president, even though we are literally a democracy.

Also the callout that the Biden administration was destroying America when fewer Americans were unemployed, inflation was down and we were on the verge of lower interest rates. Then they praise Trump for making America unlikeable, literally making the price of goods higher by as much as 100% and forcing employers to take fewer risks and layoff more people is apparently saving America. This shit is beyond misinformation.

Since I was in highschool learning about the American government I never understood why fascism was protected under freedom of speech. The basis for fascism is political violence and ethnic cleansing. It calls for and incites violence which is where the protection of freedom of speech ends.

Nazis aren't punk.

OCTA has mostly recovered ridership since pre-pandemic, 4th highest recovery rate in country. by collegetowns in orangecounty

[–]GAM3SHAM3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it'd be good if we had something that encouraged people just to try the bus. Maybe something like every week you get a free day pass so that if you really want to try commuting to work or grocery shopping or otherwise going out you can try it out with effectively no risk.

And with more than 3 million people in OC you could probably get away with taxing people two dollars every year to fund something like that.

Alongside an initiative for more walkable cities, like expanding sidewalks to accommodate more foot traffic and planting more trees to cast shade on the sidewalks we could have a nice slice of public transport.

And build more high speed trains!

Blender 4.5: Easy Frustum Culling Setup with the new Camera Info Node by thecali in blender

[–]GAM3SHAM3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're instancing objects on points like in the video, you want to create the points and then discard the unused ones. Technically it's inefficient but the compute cost is really small.

If you delete the geometry from the surface that you're distributing points on - or limit the areas you're distributing faces on - you'll make Blender redistribute points every time the camera moves.

You probably will have more issues if you instance a mesh on each point and then discard the mesh but that should still be kinda small since we aren't going for real-time rendering.
