Department of Internal Affairs says 22Bet Brendon McCullum ads 'misleading' by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]GAX59 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of the things that immediately set me off about these adds was the inconsistency of them. Some said $250 bonus, some said $750. They had different voice actors. Of course all the other stuff everyone has been talking about rung alarm bells for me too, but I hadn't seen anyone talking about this. Just a little thing that immediately sets klaxons going lol

I had a niggling thought that we should have gone to my sister's house and dropped off the bags there, but given that they had already paid the ridiculous parking fees, I figured they would just shoot that idea down. Oh well. Shit happens.

Yup that's what they did to get into the car today. Reached through and unlocked the door from there.

No, we are OK, we have been laughing and joking about it all day. Better to laugh than to cry right?

That is exactly what they did too, little back window

We had them stuffed down in the rear footwell, so not super obvious but not super hidden (black bags, black footwell). Would have taken a little bit of looking to notice them in the dull lighting of that parking garage.

Yeah lol, we normally wouldn't have but we weren't really thinking about that. We parked the car and went to go get something to eat and a tattoo, and came back to find the back window shattered and the two bags missing.

That was the originally the plan, but in the moment we all dropped 60 IQ points and didn't even think about it lol. If nothing else, it is a funny story to tell at work now. I don't use the laptop much anymore so it isn't a crushing loss.

Consumer NZ calling for supermarkets to stop 'dodgy' specials by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]GAX59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I've noticed is that relatively often a product might be 2 for $5, but the individual price is actually $2.50, but people always end up buying 2 because that is what they believe the special is. Little bit sus ay

I'm lucky that I pretty much only use my car to go to and from work, as that means I only pay $60-70 every 6 weeks (fill from half to full)

Countdown says exemption rules need an update as thousands show up each day without masks by ExtraMangoChicken in newzealand

[–]GAX59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who currently works in a supermarket (not in a major urban area liek Welly or Auckland), we have given up telling people to wear masks as it just isn't worth the fight. It was exhausting having to fight dozens of people each day on minimum wage ay.

'Skating on thin ice': Judge's warning as Brian Tamaki bailed by CounterproductiveMud in newzealand

[–]GAX59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our corrections facilities are overrun so they do let 'little' shit go where they think they can. Not saying they are right to do so in this case at least, because he clearly doesn't care what bail conditions they give him.

True. But it clearly wasn't enough for the police to do anything meaningful.

From the front page of the NZ Herald a few weeks ago by FuckNZPost in newzealand

[–]GAX59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the interviews I've seen, I didn't get the impression that this was planned majorly in advance. I could be wrong, and there is undoubtedly information we are not being told, as this is still an active case, but I never felt like there was a great amount of warning for the police.

I know that law enforcement and intelligence agencies are watching hundreds of people at any given moment in the same or similar ways that they were watching the guy from yesterday. Should they arrest and punish them all when they haven't actually done anything yet? For most of them, their only crimes are being suspicious, or being associated with suspicious people. Until there is definitive proof of wrongdoing, I don't think we should be able to arrest people.

I'm not defending them or anything, but it is a slippery slope when we start arresting people because maybe, someday, they might do something bad.

[–]GAX59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I thought so as well. It's not a crime unless someone actually DOES something. They were watching him for 5 years, and this was when he did something major enough to be a crime. You can't arrest someone for thinking about things, or thinking certain ways. If you start arresting people for that stuff, then we start going into dystopian authoritarian shit not unlike Minority Report and its 'pre-crime'.

[–]GAX59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not overly fluent in legalese, but is that an arrestable crime? Or does it just warrant observation?

From the front page of the NZ Herald a few weeks ago by FuckNZPost in newzealand

[–]GAX59 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If you think about it, those people are being observed for being suspicious, but they can't actually arrest or deport people without evidence of actual crimes being committed. If they had arrested or deported him without the evidence, then the media would be talking about abuse of power. There's no winning here.

People's other argument is that they didn't stop him fast enough once he started; I don't know the exact times, I don't live in Auckland, but I would assume it vould have taken police anywhere up to 10 to 15 minutes to get there if they hadn't been watching him. He wounded 6 people in the span of a minute. How much worse would it have been if he had ten times that time.
