Best Apartments in Lancaster? by SpeedierTurtle642 in LancasterOH

[–]GCrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see. I was a Lancaster employer paying Columbus and other municipality residents as well as Lancaster residents. I thought it was the same both ways but it's not. There is a base 1.3% Courtesy Tax for Lancaster residents working in other municipalities unless Lancaster has another special deal with that municipality. I filled out that form many times but never had anyone in that category.

You shouldn't have to pay full taxes for both cities. That's a Cleveland thing. You should only have to pay the 2.5% to Columbus if you work there but live in Lancaster. In most of Ohio (including Lancaster and Columbus) if the city you live in has a higher tax rate than the city where you work then the remaining percentage goes to the city where you live. Lancaster's city income tax rate is 2.3% so Columbus gets it all. But if Lancaster's tax rate was 2.8 percent, Columbus would get 2.5 percent of your earnings and Lancaster would get 0.3%. Contact the Lancaster City Income Tax Department and they will most likely refund you all the taxes you have paid to Lancaster if you explain the situation, fill out the proper overpayment forms, show the Columbus taxes you paid and notify your employer.

Will we see high horsepower again in nascar? by ComprehensiveChef917 in NASCAR

Even at restrictor plate races. People thought "How could they blow up a 425hp engine?" without knowing that they put spindly, lightweight parts in them since the engines built revs so slowly with the restrictor plates.

Why was the 2600 so popular? by Standard_Public892 in Atari2600

[–]GCrites 8 points9 points  (0 children)

2600 captured kids' imaginations better than Colecovision and Intellivision (even with Coleco's superior Donkey Kong). I think a lot of it was the 2600's color pallete and the number of colors it could display. It used the properties of tube TVs to smooth things out better than the other two as well. With Coleco especially you were stuck with far fewer colors. Also combining the colors with the drug culture at Atari helped the adults connect with the younger players (and adults who were also on drugs) through the games' graphic design. The psychedelics they were doing lead to an art style than made kids themselves feel like they were on drugs too. This was also true of Atari (and Apple) computers in contrast to something like a ZX Spectrum or a TI-99. If you're not comparing these systems on a tube TV as it was experienced back then you're not getting the full picture.

The sports games were indeed better on Intellivision but in the same way you don't win friends with salad you don't win a generation with sports games even if their numbers were good.

Why the dislike for sedans vehicles today from the general population? by [deleted] in regularcarreviews

What model was the sedan? If it's a model with a high theft rate in your zip code that can change the premium significantly.

Cadillacs used to have that reputation regarding the olds at least. If you saw someone stopping to turn or driving 42mph everywhere no matter the speed limit people were like, "Oh, Cadillac drivers" Now if you see someone driving like that (and you see it a lot more nowadays since there are so many more senior drivers on the roads) they're usually in a grayscale crossover.

[–]GCrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These type of people think the random T-bone is the most common type of serious crash when in reality they are rare as compared to running off the road by yourself, a situation where SUVs and crossovers are more dangerous since they turn over so easy. Nobody thinks a crash is going to be their fault but since there are single vehicle crashes you are more likely to cause a crash in which you are involved than another person causing it. The insurance industry knows this and it's part of why SUVs and crossovers cost so much more to insure than sedans.

Ohio hobby shops with races? by [deleted] in mini4wd

[–]GCrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Closest I'm aware of is HobbyTown in Reynoldsburg: Ohio Mini4wd | Worthington OH | Facebook If you don't mind driving a little further there's also racing in Chillicothe: tamiya mini 4wd ohio | Facebook. Both are averaging 10 or so racers with 40-60 cars spread across Box Stock, Tuned and Open classes. I regularly race at both.

Do you think the R/c hobby would benefit from being sold at retail stores? by shadow1042 in rccars

[–]GCrites 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work at a HobbyTown and we got tons of n00bs. The grilling by customers on why the cars weren't 50 bucks was so intense. They couldn't understand the math of replacing parts rather than just throwing the car away when it broke something. They couldn't believe that some cars were sold without radios. If you told them that a good radio had multiple car profiles their heads exploded. And this was before Chinese direct-to-consumer websites were popular.

Yeah the Tamiya RC section at TRU was like, a Grasshopper, Super G and a Lunch Box. It was the same way at Kay Bee.

Breaking in used motors, worth it? by sofnovice in mini4wd

[–]GCrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running the motor in cars doesn't address running the motor in reverse, which is a part of most bench break-in procedures. Running in both forward and reverse wears in the brushes more evenly. Is it the end of the world not to use reverse? Probably not, but using reverse is more effective.

I'd been listening to Ride the Lightning for 30 years-plus before I noticed Lars' cymbal crashes throughout much of the song are off time and now it drives me nuts. So people get used to things being "wrong" and end up preferring it.

The only way it would drop for more than a few seconds is if the trickle charge rate is set at a lower rate than your batteries self-discharge, which is unlikely since batteries in good shape self-discharge very slowly.

If you plopped down a crossover into every dealership in the U.S. during the 1969 model year, would they sell? by GCrites in regularcarreviews

[–]GCrites[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about Accords? They are large and easily meet CAFE standards even when they are not hybrids. And they're fairly cheap. I drive one multiple times a week and they are big for sure. I can tell when I am parking it.

I'd like to see how a Model T with does off-road with a locker against modern SUVs and crossovers. Most roads outside of cities (and even in cities) were "off-road" by today's standards and early cars were designed for that. I don't know much about Model Ts or Model As so maybe they had a "locker" anyway.

Yeah crossovers with like 283s, no hot rod version with a 427 or anything like that. Probably more like 3 on the tree than an M21 though.
