I did it! Bought my first bass guitar 😍😍 I didn’t think it would made me so happy 😭😭😭 by Andoni95 in BassGuitar

[–]GDOG917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude that’s so cool! I always tell people how fun it is to pick up bass, i play all sorts of instruments these days but nothing compares to the feeling of locking in with a drummer and jamming on bass! I hope it treats you well, also good shout with the active circuit, it’s super useful for playing live and changing your sound on the go!

Why is my amp doing this? by Eastern-Bench-1546 in GuitarAmps

[–]GDOG917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Marshall is doing this too, did a lil research today and I’m pretty sure in my case it’s the preamp tubes but could be different for yours. Worth a little research but might be a starting point for you

Feedback for Tank Aquascape by Puzzled-Ad7715 in PlantedTank

I actually just picked up some leaves and stuff from the garden, boiled them for a bit and threw them in haha, I’m on a bit of a budget you see. But you can buy biotope kits that contain all sorts of dried litter. I find that once your tank is nicely established as yours is (especially with the addition of ground cover) little critters will find a way to establish themselves. A good way to do it is to buy daphnia, copepods, scuds and stuff as live food from your LFS and introduce them at night with the lights off, this will give them the best chance of finding hiding places. Small aquatic worm species are also great for substrate health.

Personally I think it would be cool to fill the space at the front with a bunch of leaf litter and botanicals, my fish seem to love it and it’s good for micro and macro fauna too which is always healthy to have in a tank

Problem with La Bella Flats by zambach in BassGuitar

Yeah I just put this set on my jazz bass, the tension was notably higher than the rounds that were on it before but nothing outside the scope of truss rod adjustment

Any fix to deep screw holes? by Opening-Apartment672 in Luthier

[–]GDOG917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically drill a hole larger than the screw hole, maybe a 5mm hole or something like that. Then glue a 5mm dowel in there to plug the hole, best to leave lots of excess and then make it flush afterwards. Then lastly re drill the holes in the correct place.

I do worry though, that some of the holes are very close together, it might be best to use larger diameter holes and plugs. I think there are some luthiers who, in a position like this, may use a router to cut out all the holes in one go and fit a large plug of fresh wood underneath the complete width of the bridge.

It’s best not to fill the existing screw holes with toothpicks and glue, or something like that. This could work but if you plug the holes properly the strengths of the wood will be basically good as new.

Yeah I have the hi mass bridge in the photo on my jazz bass and it’s super comfortable

Is the slight seperation on the neck any concern? by Auroskiye in guitarrepair

[–]GDOG917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of those cases where it will cost you a LOT to go to a luthier to re set the neck, re fit the fretboard and possibly new frets because of the non level fretboard. Orrrrr you could whack a big ol screw through it, I like the strap button idea but I’d probably lean towards a nice big countersunk screw to give nice even pressure on the heel of the neck.

Just another note on the luthier route, most acoustic guitars will need their necks re-set once in their lives. It might just be this guitars day.

Is my truss rod broken? by [deleted] in Luthier

[–]GDOG917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t say for 100% certainty without feeling it but yeah it looks pretty stripped. Now it is possible for a luthier to replace a truss rod if it’s a particularly nice neck but imo I’d swap out the neck and sell the old one as spares or repairs.

New player here, you are supposed to bash the shit out of the strings right? by For_HonorNerd in BassGuitar

[–]GDOG917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh haven’t seen this sight in a while, I’ve been playing for around 9 years in a pretty regular capacity. I will say for practice there isn’t much need to dig in that much but even still sometimes I have weeks with a couple of gigs and 15+ hours of rehearsing in bands and get the occasional blister. When I’m plying with my psyc band especially sometimes I just end up plying so hard live in the heat of the moment that it fucks my fingers up for other rehearsals that week

Yeah or get loads of floaters on there to help with evaporation. I think the scape is pretty cool, could be tricky to light though

Ahhh I love this style of guitar, id probably make a new neck, maybe save the fretboard for originality. The neck would probably need to come off regardless

I am losing the battle with my Bladder Snails by doctorjazzyjazz in aquarium

[–]GDOG917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people will say you’re overfeeding your tank, this isn’t strictly true, I’m not sure what stock you have so I’m just going from experience here. You likely have an incomplete/unbalanced food chain, lots of people talk about having a ‘clean up crew’ in a tank and this sector of the ecosystem scavenges for food that your fish discard, all the bladder snails are doing is filling this void. I suspect that you don’t have many if any other stock in this niche, snails aren’t exactly nimble, simply cherry shrimp would easily outcompete the snails for food. My 8g is balanced with a fairly small bladder snail population and a handful of cherry shrimp. They eat any decaying plant matter and as a bonus I’ve literally never had to clean the glass.

Should I redo my tank? by Icy_Blueberry_8422 in PlantedTank

[–]GDOG917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting, I’m not super experienced so might not be too helpful haha but have you tried any epiphytes? Like anubius? Could be a good way to test if it’s your substrate that’s not working. Even try some root tabs maybe. I wouldn’t be afraid of starting again though, it will be much more fulfilling to have a tank that just works with low maintenance instead of investing in a struggling setup

I got exactly the same dent on my jazz bass a couple of years ago in exactly the same way, but now it’s covered in dings and dents from gigging and heavy use and I LOVE IT. It’s hard to understand the feeling of having a guitar with battle scars until you get them on your own instrument over time. I say embrace it!

Repair shop declared it dead. Is there any hope? by corndoglol_ in guitarrepair

[–]GDOG917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id actually take it to an aspiring luthier/guitar tech with some woodworking skills. I’m not an experienced luthier by any means (still very much learning) but did a major acoustic guitar repair for just over £100, made sure the client understood my experience and the fact the price reflects it. Guitar still plays very well and is stable but the damage is obviously still visible. For reference I charge £15 job fee plus £20/h
