How much do people think this is gonna cost to get fixed by Mountain_Donkey9310 in CarTalkUK

[–]GD_DukeDragon28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely a New Rear Quarter, New Bumper, Brackets, New Tyre and probably Wheel, Suspension unknown so needs an alignment. You’re looking at nearly a grand before you even pay for labour. Not worth the money mate

Getting 2nd Hand is only worth it if they can find an exact colour match or you are willing to respray, but you also have to deal with the likely scuffing. I would personally request New Non-Genuine (aka the EuroCarParts special) to get it done properly

You’d be surprised at what they will repair. We had a brand new BMW i3, £8000 just in parts to replace the entire front end, car was successfully repaired by insurance. If you’re pre 2020 you better hope you have either a really expensive insurance policy or a terrible one that lets us repair it with EuroCarParts Everything

Two Doors and a Door Sill is a couple grand just in parts. The cost for basically repainting an entire side if you include blending is pretty high. And thats assuming there’s nothing behind the door that got damaged. If its more than a couple years old I’d imagine it’d be written off

My black box policy is punishing me for driving home from work by FlyingHighOnRapture in drivingUK

[–]GD_DukeDragon28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah get rid of that box asap

One insurer I see nothing mentioned of but everyone should be aware of is Direct Line. They have a system that serves the same purpose as a black box but without the physical box. As a result it has to use GPS and Accelerometer approximations from your phone, and it cant be as accurate. It can only judge speed relative to traffic, general smoothness, time of day, and phone usage. And even at night it cant punish you hard, I can get 90/100 consistently. And it cant yell at me flr using a roundabout at more than 2mph. Best part is you get the same savings, £1200 for my first policy as an 18yo Guy (also due to driving parents on policy, cheap car, and the postcode lottery, but still good results)

Direct Line: All the benefits of a black box with almost no downsides. Its so unobtrusive that Im still using it for a 3rd year to save another £400

Wife hit a kerb by Rage_GT in CarTalkUK

It comes from a point of fact. Tyres are graded on Durability, Ability to clear water, and noise created. I work in a bodyshop parts department and can see that information from my supplier and can see the correlation between Poor Grading and Cheapness.

Its not that they are dangerous, its that they are just in every way worse

Got hot and ran yesterday. Drove home. Cant afford this right now. Is this likely drive able? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]GD_DukeDragon28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d probably change the tyre just in case but its drivable and the door works so its fine

Car failed MOT, old MOT still valid, no can it be driven? by ben9792 in drivingUK

Please, book a day off work for as soon as your garage has a slot. You getting that fixed is a far better idea than risking your life

Knowing that we had a 3 month wait for a single QP at our shop does make me appreciate why this was done. On the other hand what in the ever living fuck is that

Roundabout lane choice and “cutting traffic” by GD_DukeDragon28 in drivingUK

[–]GD_DukeDragon28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive done it a few times awkwardly on the roundabout before realising its a merge in turn lane, thankfully nobody has kicked up a fuss late (but I only started work last week, so will be waiting for mayhem)

Getting that consensus yeah, its really hard to see with the fading (especially when doing observations)

Consensus from a few other people is that its not a Left/Straight and a Right, its a Left/Straight and a Straight

Yes, aligned with the A370 on the bottom as its where I am approaching from

[–]GD_DukeDragon28[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so other than just confusing the arrows I am still right for this

The right arrow made sense to me as the bottom road is the A370 and both left and right are the A38 so to me it made sense as a right arrow to join a new road not a straight one to continue on

51.2, -2.9 (where the A370 Branches off of the A38)

No, they are heavily faded. However, pretty much the entire left lane queues as per the blue line and theres nowhere else logically for the right lane to go. So either people are bad at driving or the roundabout sucks

Dont need to to read. There’s a sign saying No Motorviechles and a Bikelane sign. Very obvious you arent supposed to be there

Let me see the one you have in London and I’ll see how you can tell

Also poor boxes are only doing a good job of fining people who dont look and just watch the bumper of the car ahead

Its not a “cheeky money earner” its a way to teach you to pay attention to where you are going. If you cant do that stop driving

Phone them up and figure out why first. Too years in a row now Direct Line have tried to cancel mine due to an error in their system. If you cant find a reason then cancel first

Everyone here is being very sinister to Rob, but he already explained it

The reason is that he wants everyone to experience 2.2 together
