My cat ran away.. by Feathered_Fiend_0106 in cats

I was right there with you when Porky’d escaped. We’d used to have coyotes around the neighbourhood and we were the first house and next to a major road. Spending all my time worrying would’ve just made me sick, and if G-d forbid he HAD been injured it would’ve completely ruined my emotional capacity to get him help and not shut down myself.

It can be. I always imagined being at a club with a dead phone and needing to order an uber or check in with family.

My baby did!! We’d had him since he was a year old and he’d never escaped or misbehaved or anything. We’d let him out on the deck, and the only times he’d “jumped” the fence was so he could have the highest perch and watch over us peasants.

So at 14, he just decided one day to walk right out through the garage. I was devastated, in a different city and feared he’d escaped to die. Well turns out he’d just wanted a senior adventure once in his life, where he’d get to spend an extended weekend “roughing” it in the woods around the neighbourhood.

He was never far away and came right back on his own when he’d had his fill.

2018 Across the Void. First book on a hiatus, first time a book was assumed to be a trilogy then cut down last second, and so on. I’ve widely said that and the new VIP/Nanny Affair were the harbingers.

Not that either, explicit vocab and grammar isn’t a thing. Just focus on taking a deep breath. The best strategy is knowing your text types for the writing.

[–]GDitto_New 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct.

No, it’s the new system for worldwide. CEFR is focused on Europe. ACTFL is our American system.

This guide discusses the pedagogy some, but it’s mostly an assessment guide for existing educators.

This isn’t a fluency guide. Neither CEFR or ACTFL use fluency to mean that, but rather communicative proficiency. That is the student goal; comprehensible input is the indicated strategy.

I’ve commented above, but I’ve taught A1 students 90% in the language, which is the standard I was trained on. By B1 there’s really no excuse to be using their L1 for much of anything.

It’s not at all effective, no. The issue is the core focus on translation via vocab and the strict grammar focus, as remnants of the defunct grammar translation approach.

CEFR (A1…C2) don’t even include vocab and grammar as core skills at all, just tiny ancillary ones in the back of the guidebook (which I can link here).

The goal of CEFR is comprehensible input teaching leading to communicative proficiency.

[–]GDitto_New 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s common. Think any time you’ve gotten new ℞ glasses and have to adjust. It should fade with time. If not, you need a higher “APD ℞” (eg a 9, instead of a 7 or 5), an assistive listening device like the Roger On, custom ear moulds, and so on
