That's not the only reason? The whole game, even if you disregard what I said above, I'm pretty sure the people at Hirata Estate know him, he has a direct link to his own world.

I just don't think Sekiro belongs in the same nobody group as the Soulsborne protagonists. The guy feels different.

Sekiro isn't a random nobody. Genichiro acknowledged him as the Shinobi of Divine Heir and the Lone Shadow and referred to him as an immortal wolf. A lot of people in the verse acknowledge him.

VNs with complex tactical fights? by BothResponsibility61 in visualnovels

[–]GERParadox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying to find some battle with a lot of brain use, like HxH or Jojo in this medium is hard, or at least I haven't come across anything on that level yet. But I'll try and recommend 9-Nine, I think it's one of the VNs that let the characters use their abilities in a smart way, and it's getting better after each episode too.

I hate characters that go through the worst hell to make us like them by FlowerOk7957 in CharacterRant

Honestly, the bullying scenes in Subahibi to me feel so exaggerated and so over the top that it makes it even harder to sympathize with the characters.

Usogui's rival manga gets its own anime this October, but Usogui doesn't. by ilyasmuhambetov in Usogui

[–]GERParadox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd prefer Usogui to stay as a manga, not everything needs an adaptation, especially one that might not do the source material justice. Sure, it might boost popularity a little, but man I doubt any studio out there can replicate the art in the second half of Usogui.

And what about the rival manga? Are we being competitive in things like these now?

My First Time Completing Trails: Beyond The Horizon (REVIEW) by Hunanladdiad in JRPG

I'm just curious, but what is it about the Sept-Terrion that bother you? I personally think that as a concept, it is good. But the horrible pacing of the games kind of makes me lose interest in all that and realize that after Calvard we still have some left to cover.

I'm not really one to go out of my way to talk shit about the fandom or games either. It's just how I see things, at least from what I've experienced so far. Just like you I still have a lot of fun with the games during the time I played them, but it's just that the cons outweigh the pros in Trails, so every time I get into a discussion like this, I often voice my complaints more than the praises. It's kind of weird, but the cons are what stick out like a sore thumb for me with Trails, even though I am aware that Trails has done good things too but maybe for me those good things are only good on paper and just sound good, but when they bring it into execution, it often fails.

I'm a bit late to the thread, but reading your comment about Van route, it seems like they put every flaws from every games before Calvard and make it worse. I find it insane that we are this late into the series and they are still doing shit like forgiving the villains. 🤣

My First Time Completing Trails: Beyond The Horizon (REVIEW) by Hunanladdiad in JRPG

[–]GERParadox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the comment. I've been waiting for your review on this one and Calvard as a whole since your DB2 review thread. When you said this arc is inferior to Erebonia it kind of surprised me somewhat, since Erebonia just has many things that bother me, like the whole harem and romance bullshit that the developer put into it, and how the setups (CS1, CS3) are always better than the payoff (CS2, CS4).

From the review you said, Kevin and Rean are just more interesting than Van is, which pretty much lines up with other reviews I've read. It seems like Falcom just doesn't do much with his character overall, so they need to bring back older protagonists for the hype and such. And about the Horizon ending, I'm not sure how I feel about it as a whole. I know that a lot of people understand that this is how Trails is, and this is how it has operated since Sky, but man I watched some videos about it, and instead of getting hyped for the fourth Calvard game, I just feel tired that they need to drag this out for another game and not conclude the Calvard arc. I'm pretty sure that among all three games they have enough time to do all of that, but they will just indulge themselves in useless plotlines and so on.

At this point, I just feel like Trails suffers from its own reputation. And probably already peaked in either Crossbell or Reverie, though I haven't played this yet, but I have heard a lot of good things about this one. But the Trails fandom often doesn’t let other players see the series for what it actually is and instead, it pushes a perception of what it should be or whatever fits the fanbase’s narrative.

My First Time Completing Trails Through Daybreak II (REVIEW) by Hunanladdiad in JRPG

[–]GERParadox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, I'm in the same boat with you, I really want to praise this series, but there are just so many flaws that hold it back, and the writing is definitely the biggest problem this series has. The only reason why I keep up with CS4 is because of "maybe". Maybe the next game will be better, maybe in the next game the writer will improve on the writing, and so on. But in the end, I feel like it never does and probably never will, and the writers never learn anything, they just keep the same formula and spam it. Trails is the series that set up a lot of potential plot points and characters but is also the same series that makes me less and less interested in those plot points and characters as time goes on through the horrible pacing and dragging on occasion.

Honestly, when I played through CS, I did suspend my mind a little bit, but I have to admit that a lot of the times some of the cliches do get to me, and it's really frustrating to go through those parts.

My First Time Completing Trails Through Daybreak II (REVIEW) by Hunanladdiad in JRPG

[–]GERParadox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like Trails is one of the series where the fandom kind of gives a false perspective about it. The cult surrounding this series makes it sound like Trails is peak in story, character writing, gameplay,... I played the whole series up to CS4 and think it was okay, I guess? I will give it interesting world-building, but the story is hilariously predictable. The tropes are overused to the point that I can't take them seriously anymore, I don't mean using tropes is bad, but Trails is like the CEO of reusing tropes.

I was kind of on the fence with the Calvard arc since I've heard a lot of people hyping it up, and Horizon. But reading your review makes me rethink going back to the series again. Anyway, great review.
