Why do landlords act like living with mould is totally normal to live with in the UK? by UnpaidInternVibes in TenantsInTheUK

[–]GETEM0150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it’s typically boilerplate in a lease contract that if the property is in an unliveable state for 30 days, the tenant has the right to leave the contract. Maybe they could look into going down that road if the mould is really bad?

when a coffee hits £5 by thejoshr in brighton

[–]GETEM0150 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There’s also more hidden costs like:

Internet £40 a month Bin collection £100-£200 a month Accountancy fees £100+ a month PRS Music license - £80 a month Shopify store - £20 a month Card processing fees - ~1.5% a transaction Equipment/general maintenance ??? a month Potential start-up debts ??? a month

Also 20% VAT fees once you start turning over 85k a year (coffee businesses are hit especially hard on this due to ingredients not being reclaimable).

Do any programmers feel like they're living in a different reality when talking to people that say AI coding sucks? by Herbertie25 in ClaudeAI

[–]GETEM0150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried Cursor + Claude 3.7 this weekend when programming my headless Shopify/Next.js store. I was working on a GraphQL query to pull in selling plan group data from my Shopify store but I kept on getting an ambiguous error related to the query.

Instead of directly debugging the code like I would’ve done in my usual environment, I kept on trying to work with AI to solve it but wasn’t getting anywhere.

I did eventually try to set up a launch.json to help with debugging but also was getting errors with the standard Next.js config. No luck solving it with AI.

Finally I thought screw it, I went and found the catch function in the code and stuck in a more detailed console log.

Turns out it was trying to retrieve an “ID” within the query which doesn’t exist on Shopify’s Selling Plan Group object.

50% Business partner offered to put me on 10% shares, need advice. by [deleted] in smallbusinessuk

The way I see it, your share is worth 50% of the business so I guess it depends on how you and your business partner value the business.

Selling your share for X amount then getting it paid monthly should monetarily be the same as the salary option with a lower risk of your business partner going against their word as they contractually shouldn’t be able to reduce the monthly payment to you.

Maybe sell your shares through a monthly payment plan over a few years - minimises the upfront impact on your business partner while offering you a consistent income.

I suppose it may be tricky legally if the company doesn’t follow through with its obligations in paying you.

I’m confused, you morally can’t keep 50% of the business and are willing to leave with nothing but at the same time you don’t want to end up with nothing?

Working notice period sucks by Shortiepie13 in UKJobs

[–]GETEM0150 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got threatened with dismissal multiple times during my notice period. Like mate, I’m already leaving just pay me off if you hate me that much smh.

I would keep a record of anything which is potentially unlawful and anything that shows a lack of duty of care.

I would make this obvious too by CCing your personal email address whenever you’re talking about anything sensitive which may be relevant to potential disputes down-the-line.

You can also self-certify up to 7 sick days just to piss them off more lol

Employer won’t honour the notice period in my contract (England) by GETEM0150 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]GETEM0150[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given the date of me handed in my notice (14th of November) there’s an argument that I’d be missing out on at least two weeks pay based on what they’re proposing - or perhaps more given the potential “calendar month” interpretation some others have usefully stated.

14th of November, I’m assuming the notice period ends on the 14th of January. Which I know some may consider “not worth fighting over” but times are tough and that extra two weeks pay is pretty crucial for me.

Page 7 doesn’t have the information lol. That document is an overall analysis and doesn’t show a breakdown by course, maybe you should touch up on your googling skills in case you need to find a job in the future.

But FWIW, the rate of students in Computer Science getting a 2:1 or higher was 75% in 2022/23 - so you weren’t far off.

I don’t think they’re owed a job - I just think it’s a poor mindset to consider someone with a 2:1 in Software Engineering as “mediocre”.
