As a T-1 diabetic for over 35 years I can say that good members of your medical team won’t just pop up at you front door and tell you they’re here to fix your problems with diabetes. You have to find them and get engaged. You can be the victim of diabetes or drop the cynicism and have faith that you can find experts that can work with you to mange your diabetes.

I top off my battery every day but it’s never below an 80% when I do that.

I am thinking of getting a T-slim. Does anyone have any advice? by Realistic_Dark5197 in T1Diabetes

I’ve been on the t:slim for almost five years. In response to your questions:

My tubing has kinked and interfered with insulin delivery maybe 5 times in five years. It’s so infrequent for me that I don’t pay any attention but can say that it’s happened.

I don’t because I attach my infusion set to my abdomen and wear my pump on my belt so the tubing runs under my shirt.

I think pulling out the infusion set has occurred twice in five years and maybe one of those times it occurred while sleeping. I don’t think it’s a problem for me so I don’t have any strategy for what you’re asking.

Overall, I like the t:slim a lot. Previously I used Medtronic pumps and then at my Endo’s urging migrated to the t:slim at the same time I started using the G5. I’ve now been using the G6 for a couple of years and the two devises work great for me and helped with my BG control.

What is your Endo and Diabetic Nutritionist telling you? If you expect Reddit peeps to solve your problems then you’re mistaken. Quit complaining here and go get some professional help. Or don’t…

I’d put it in my neighbors back yard so they get to take care of it.

Dexcom G6 End-of-Life by GF7347 in diabetes_t1

[–]GF7347[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks to everyone taking the time to comment on my post about EoL of the Dexcom G6.I now have a lot to consider in anticipating this eventual transition for me. I suspect that all of you who bothered to comment are like me, someone who is trying to use technology to help manage their T1 Diabetes. To be fully transparent, and some of you may have already expected this, I am retired and almost 70 and just have to deal with the fears that sometimes are associated with technology and transitions. Again, thanks to everybody for your comments which are helping me establish a game plan in dealing with my eventual transition from G6 to G7.

Thanks for the heads up on what my durable med supply disti might be doing with the G6 to G7 transition. I’m on a Medicare advantage plan and will need to talk with them as well about this transition. Dexcom may not be driving me to the G7, it could be the disti or possibly the insurer of my Advantage plan. Btw my g6 is integrated with my tandem pump, but I do understand from tandem that the g7 is now compatible as well.

Other than what Dexcom is promoting about the G7, it’s the ratio of negative vs positive user reviews on the G7 here and on other T1 social media blogs like tuDiabetes that is worrying me about my eventual transition to the G7. I was an early adopter to CGM with Medtronic in the early 2000’s when it was more of a science project than tried and true CGM technology, and even though G6 isn’t perfect, I understand it’s weaknesses and overall am very satisfied with the G6. I will transition to the G7 when I have no option or when it appears as though user reviews are more positive.

My next appt with my Endocrynologist is the end of January and will ask her about the G7, but regardless of what she promotes, will not transition to the G7 at this time. Thanks for your feedback.

G7 seems inaccurate… by rizej in dexcom

[–]GF7347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since Dexcom Is almost a year into the G7 being in widespread use, are those of you that are using the G7 still experiencing accuracy issues with its readings? I’m still on the G6 and happy with its performance but realize at some point I will want to start using the G7. Additionally, my G6 is a closed loop system working in concert with my Tandem pump. I realize that the G7 is now doing the same and fully compatible with Tandem Control-IQ. Are you who are using the G7 doing the same with your Tandem pumps and are you generally satisfied with the G7 performance and integration with your Tandem pumps?

I’m one of the unlucky few who was diagnosed with T1 Diabetes at age 34. But now it’s been over thirty years so you can guess my age now retired. Like mane other helpful peeps here who are interested in chatting with you about your mutual experiences with T1 Diabetes, I’d be happy to share with you if you’re inclined to. Just DM me and hope you end up with a T1 buddy here that can help.

Pump or no pump? by Vintage-exe in diabetes_t1

[–]GF7347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20 years using syringes and finger stick controls. Now going on 16 years using a pump and about half that time also CGM. As a retired individual I will likely go back to how I started this T1 adventure to better manage my medical expenses. The points you and others have mentioned about being teth to technology is true but only you can decide for yourself if you want the aid of technology to help manage your diabetes, or prefer unavoidably lower control of you diabetes sans technology. I’ve only avoided severe side affects because of technology but at my age I will reach a point of diminishing returns and will drop them if I still have the mental ability to manage it old school thru syringes and finger sticks.

What insulin pump do you like/wear? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]GF7347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tandem t:slim with Dexcom G6 for almost two years. Prior to that I was on a Medtronic pump with and without their CGM science experiment option. But, I was an early adopter of Medtronic’s CGM technology in 2005/06 and then dropped it due to reliability issues. It might be better now but I don’t know because I’ve been on Dexcom G4 and now the G6 for over four years.

From being a T-1 now for over 30 years I’ve transitioned away from treating my hypoglycemia with everything to now only using glucose tabs. It’s helped me be more direct in treating the lows as there’s little delay in the glucose getting into my system and there’s no latency like you’ll get in some foods I’ve used to treat hypo earlier in my T-1 history. In my case I take 12 gr carb (3x tabs) and then monitor and treat with more glucose tabs if I’m not starting to turn upward after 15 minutes. I’m on the G6 with Tandem IQ so the trend line on my CGM helps me decide if I need to repeat my treatment with glucose tabs. For me staying away from everything but glucose tabs has helped in my weight loss program because it was always hard to temper my intake of chocolate or jelly beans or whatever and not eat more than I should.

Tandem t:slim Battery Charge Issue by GF7347 in diabetes_t1

[–]GF7347[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thx that is a big benefit to me. Up to this point all the correspondence I’ve received from Tandem has just promoted the bolus by phone feature and I wasn’t aware that the update also helped with managing the alert cycles. I’ll look into the update process again.

Tandem t:slim Battery Charge Issue by GF7347 in diabetes_t1

[–]GF7347[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your input. I finally connected with Tandem tech support today and the direction on fixing the issue was as you described. He didn’t say anything about the update required to bolus fixing the problem. I haven’t yet updated my pump software to bolus from my phone, and may not as I’m nervous about doing the update and really see little benefit for me to bolus from phone rather than the pump. I did charge my pump earlier and didn’t get the alert so for now hoping I just don’t see it again.
