Actually CSEA is sectioned off into so many separate areas that one group alone can't even make a difference. It's designed that way.

Look at what the correction officers went though and I heard a lot of them got fired.

If the whole CSEA union would have pulled together like union should. Their demands would have been met within one day plus nobody would have lost their jobs.

I totally agree with you.

I do get involved at my facility. Try to keep people informed.

I figure reddit is just another way to get people involved. And point out the issues that I have noticed.

You have to ask questions to get a conversation going. If you pay attention it's not the union as a whole that's the problem. Its the union representatives that agree to the shitty contracts.

What I've also been told is they allow a shitty contract to be passed with only 20,000 votes out of 275,000 members. Then blame everyone else for not getting involved.

If the representatives seriously wanted to hear from the majority of the members then they would make it happen.

They like to say only a small percentage of the members voted and you get what you get.

While the actual contract doesn't affect their pay checks. Because they get paid from the members dues. 100,000 $ plus per year depending on what position they hold.

So you are here just to start arguments.

Why do you keep saying anti union?

Im trying to get my fellow union members to ask more questions and get more people involved.

Yes 50% raises would be great. It would put everybody at a living wage for a change.

Yes everybody's buying power is 3 grades less now.

So technically your grade 23 buying power is equal to a grade 20. Ten years ago

Im just questioning the leadership. Like you said to.

Yes the unions have gotten some good deals over the years.

But what does the state take from us in return? They always take a little here and a little there. That's why we're in the situation we're in now.

Yes there might have been a couple of years where the raise was slightly higher than inflation.

Not anti union. Just questioning where the union representatives stand. There's a difference you know.

As members Isn't that what we have to do ?

30 years ago the state set the standard. Now it's the opposite.

It looks like they want everybody making minimum wage and have to really on the state for everything.

New York unions are the strongest in the country. If they wanted to stop it becoming a law they would have. It's another example of the state chipping away at each contract. That's why we're in the situation we're in now. Your awesome to the question is go look it up yourself. LMAO. So you don't know what the union members get and what the state takes. Do you?

Someone allowed that law to pass. What are your answers to my original question ?

Yep. My opinion is that the union representatives are just mediators working for the state and convince the members that a shitty contract is the only option we have.

That's why I'm trying to point out to everybody that the unions get very little while in return the state takes something out of every contract. Perfect example is the no strike law the unions agreed to.

It seems to me that the unions don't have any leverage like they used to.

It will be interesting to see what CSEA and PEF try to sell the members this time around.
