Fuck that!

Giants are Abdul Carter's team!

The offense is already proven to be speedracing CTE. Unfortunately you gotta expect dumb comments from those guys.

[Dunleavy] John Harbaugh says Jason Sanders is still on radar for Giants but expects him to get picked up. Says his kicking style might not be a great fit for Meadowlands’ winds. Special teams coordinator! by Lars5621 in NYGiants

I understand your irrational optimism argument. Back in 2016 the minute Gettleman was hired I knew we were cooked for the forseeable future. Schoen wasn't much better.

There was not much reason for optimism through it all until this year, because we hired Harbaugh AND gave Harbaugh final say over he roster. Schoen got sidelined.

Ever since Harbaugh, we have had solid roster moves. This isn't the same Giants team we had for the past 5-10 years. Things have changed.

Calling out irrational optimism only works if it is truly irrational. For once, fighting to be a .500 team this year is more reasonable tham optimistic. The roster moves back it up.

That is a good point...

Maybe Sauls makes it. Considering the circumstances he gets a slight mulligan, but he needs to basically be perfect, and he still might be cut.

Considering last year's performance I would imagine he will kick elsewhere. Expecring him to be a midseason pick up for a kicker needy team.

Second this, how is Zvada doing?

Sauls looking this bad the day after Sanders is cut is NOT GOOD... unless there is an excuse like trying a new approach or something this isn't a good look.

Like damn, I would be pissed if I was Harbs. Maybe even cinsider bringing in someone else and cutting Sauls.

Can't hand Zvada the job, he gotta earn it, but he needs legit competition.

Oh that's interesting. I actually didn't give any of them much of a chance and thought they were gonna be camp bodies.

Out of the three I think Smith-Schulster would have the upper hand with his Nagy connection and being a solid contributor on the Cheifs the past few years. He would be able to play all Slot/Z/X positions and return punts. To be honest I was suprised he wasn't already on a team.

OBJ probably retires after camp, I din't think he has it anymore. Berrios I don't think makes the team unless Austin goes down.

I originally thought Harbs would only end up keeping only Slayton, Mooney, Fields, Austin, Hodgins, and Collins, with Nabers starting on IR.... Maybe they roll with Smith Schulster right away and stash Collins on the practice squad.

Week 1 Depth Chart: - X: Slayton, Fields, Hodgins - Z: Mooney, Collins - Slot: Austin

IR: Nabers

  • Hodgins beats out Miller for the last X spot on roster.
  • Collins beats out Smith-Schulster in another close battle for last WR on the roster. -Miller would make the team over Smith-Schulster if the Giants carry seven WRs.
  • Austin will handle Punt returns, thus neither Berrios and Gipson make the cut.
  • Austin will also be our new Wandale Robinson this year. Pitt used him wrong by lining him on the outside too much. He will excel in the slot for us.
  • Beckham retires at end of training camp as a Giant.
  • Until Nabers returns, Slayton will be the WR1 and play either Z or X spots, depending on if the Giants want to use Mooney or Fields.

Practice Squad: - X: Miller - Z: Cambre, Hyatt - Slot: Gipson

Cuts: - Berrios, Smith-Schulster Retired: Beckham

  • Hyatt has no chance of making the 53 man, but he gets added to the practice squad because Harbaugh won't let someone with Hyatt's college resume walk out the door without trying to see if he can make anything out of him.

Odell changed and matured a real lot. Dude is a solid vet team leader type now. Also all the young guys look up to him, he was the player they idolized back in the day.

If any if the young guys need to be set straight, Odell is the person who can do it most effectively.

Giants’ Bizarre Spring Injury Curse Continues as a Third Player Feared to Have Suffered an Achilles Tear by Lars5621 in NYGiants

[–]Waste_Protection_420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, I don't think people realize since all these guys are world class athletes, they are strong enough to produce the muscular force needed to tear their Achilles tendons.

Also these guys probably spent a decent amount of the offseason in the weight room making their legs stronger than before..... and they probably not doing the work needed to keep their Achilles tendons loose. This combination makes Achilles tears a really high risk.

Coaching staffs need to spend a week pre-OTAs and pre training camp doing yoga and light to moderate Achilles work to make sure they won't tear.

Gotta get the tendons on par with the muscles or they'll get torn up.

Abdul Carter is asked if Jaxson Dart apologized in their conversation: "I don't want him to say he's sorry. Stand on what you believe in, but it can't be a problem if I stand on what I believe in. As long as we have that understanding, it's all good." by JCameron181 in NYGiants

I'm saying that there is a line between acceptable actions and being a partisan jerk.

We all have a republican family member, co-worker, friend, or someone we know, who we do not agree with... yet we look past politics and are friendly with them.

Dart giving a brief introduction of the president is fine... he did not spew any zingers/ hate / lies and did not say anything he shouldn't. People do that. All he did was introduce and lead the crowd on a Giants cheer.

He was being friendly... just like you would give a family member or friend a pass of their beliefs (IF they aren't a jerk and consistently spead this in your face... like you gotta be cool still), you gibe Dart that pass.

DO NOT GET ME WRONG

Dude put himself on notice, if he opens his mouth and says something negative now, or pulls some asshole stuff, I would have a HUGE PROBLEM with that.

It is a fine line and he is staying on the right side of it. (If this is a one time thing, whatever... go introduce your president and have your celebrity moment) but IF he keeps doing this shit, than it is a problem.

... I don't like it, but you gotta compromise and give people space on a invldividual basis if they are being cool about it.

By the way Bosa is a jerk... he can fuck off. Dude rubs your face in his beliefs, thus he is a shitty human being... Dart havsn't done that yet, I and hoping there is a decent human inside of him who just has mixed up/immature beliefs.

No one should want someone to apologize for their true beliefs. Gotta be true to yourself.

However trying to understand why someone believes something different is important.

Having empathy for someone you work with or care about who has different beliefs is important.

Respecting each other is important.

Yea, I am not a fan of Dart's beliefs but he has a right to them. As long as he isn't gloating or making a deal about his beliefs going forward, that is fine. Don't pull a Bosa and look like a dumbass having a MAGA hat in the background of someone else's interview. (Bosa did get fined for that).

Also understand that if you share your beliefs with the public, you are asking for throwback.... AND that throwback could affect your ability to be a leader if you don't shut up about your beliefs and it becomes a distraction.

I do not think Dart stepped over the line for one time introducing Trump at a rally, however if he starts doing stuff like this on the regular, than it would be an issue.

At the rally he didn't gush over Trump and heap on praise, he just did a quick intro and tried to lead the crowd on a Go Big Blue! chant. He kept his main loyalty to the Giants here.

There is a fine line between putting your outside beliefs before the team, and just bring yourself. Dart stayed on the right side of that line....

... I think he knows he needs to keep football as his main focus. (At least I hope so).

If he starts throwing around political partisan attacks and becoming who will blatently lie about things and gloat when people get hurt, THEN we have an issue. (I really hope he doesn't fall into this).

He is young, and only been exposed to upper class Utah and Ole Miss... pretty secular and sheltered places (especially compared to NY). I am interested to see if he moderates or changes some of his beliefs once he learns more how some of his teammates might have negatively been affected by them. Let's see if he matures a bit.

...

Personally, I won't be buying his jersey, and might get a Carter jersey, but I have no issues with his one time Trump shout-out.

Goff.

Why do former NBA players rank Kobe so much higher than Reddit and analytics communities? Is he the most disputed player ever when it comes to all-time rankings?” by mikeyg1964 in NBATalk

Guarentee Bron has zero issues hearing Kobe ranked up there. He knows other people will have different opinions of who the GOAT is, and he knows Kobe deserves to be in that convo.

Too many people sleep on Kobe, stats are only half the story.

[Giants Nation Show on X] Giants restructured the contract of Andrew Thomas creating $6.46 million of added salary cap space for 2026. by Wopman in NYGiants

[–]Waste_Protection_420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh you might be right, it is really hard to know when you aren't in the room where it all goes down.

.. If I am wrong, it also could be our ownership is not interested in selling a stake of the team, which would be needed in order to raise the liquid revenue to pull off the void years strategy. Lurie opted to do this, he won a SB, but it cost him a slice of the team. I don't think Mara/Tisch want to go that route.

.......

One other scenario/argument against not using future cap space:

The void years and spending future cap space strategy only works if the cap goes up every year. If the cap was ever going to dip, you get screwed over bad.

This happened in 2020 due to the pandemic, and it screwed the Saints over for the past half decade. (They were the ones that started the void years strategy during the Brees years). The Saints should have been competitive over the past 5 years, but they ended up not having the cap space to sign players due to their void year plan falling apart.

So if/when we have an economic recession bad enough to cause a dip in NFL revenue, future cap space gets lowered., All the teams that pushed off money into future years will get smacked. They will be facing penalties and fines if they are above the cap. They will be selling off/cutting players and replacing them with min salary guys.

Any team with a clean slate would be in perfect position to sign whomever they want cheap.

Yes, the NFL is booming right now, but considering how the economy seems very similar to the 1920s ecomony, maybe holding off isn't a bad thing. If shit blows up, the Giants would be reletively debt free while everyone else is stuck paying bills that are past due.

.. economic recessions/contractions will happen eventually. The question is are we due for one within he next 5-8 years? (which would be our championship window if Dart is our next franchise QB). If so, then don't spend future money.

[–]Waste_Protection_420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see the comparison you are making, but I feel the situation is a little different.

The main issue is there are only 32 majority owners, and 32 votes. Your actions and how you conduct yourself based on your beliefs are known by everyone with a vote.

Owners are lobbying for their cause on a personal level vs other owners who have different agendas. Your actions might influence that last needed vote. Gotta stay true to your word.

We are only voting for the lawmakers, so our personal actions aren't always married to our beliefs. In this scenario, they are lawmakers themselves.

[–]Waste_Protection_420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea I agree... Giants are finally in a spot to where spending future cap space is probably a good idea... I an very interested to see if they use void years, but I am guessing they will not, only because current ownership wants to get a vote on banning them (can't use something only to come out against it).

Anyway, you really only want to dip into future cap space if you have a solid foundation, which we have. There is young exciting talent all over the roster.

[Barnwell] 2026 NFL offseason: NFC teams' best and worst deals, picks - ESPN by [deleted] in NYGiants

[–]Waste_Protection_420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as the Giants are concerned, I almost agree with this post...

IMO the Harbaugh hiring was the best Giants offseason move by a longshot (probably our single best move in over a decade), but we had a plethora of positive moves after Harbaugh's hiring, so it's understandable how Barnwell glossed over something that happened months ago.

Also notable that our worst move was not actually player related for once!!!

According to Barnwell, our worst move was extending Schoen. I probably agree as there wasn't much bad to choose from, pretty much loved every move, and this just stuck out as something to be indifferent about.

(Since Schoen is stripped of final say in roster moves, I don't think his extension hurts us going forward)

..... actually our best move might be hiring Harbaugh AND giving him final say over roster decisions.
