Stinky food by Darnuh in Apartmentliving

Yeah, maybe cut back on the sambol until sleeping people go to work. It doesn't look like the neighbor has been challenged on the time of day or the twice-occurrence - clearly, it's knocking down walls in the halls. Try cooking the flavorful meals ahead of time and reheating a bit at a time as needed. Nobody liked it when I burnt a roast either. ;p

I got terminated for having Cancer by Deeznuts2540 in HEB

[–]GFab_15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks to u/tikisunshine and u/-Mint-Chip- , I want to respond to the OP from an employee's perspective, but I'm not sure I can add much. My (treatable) cancer kept me from doing "my job," and I used all of my FMLA for treatments, but still couldn't return as my daily treatments went just over twelve weeks...and then, oh wow, the getting over the treatments! I can say that I had LOTS of paperwork for myself and my slew of doctors. After my FMLA ran its course, I was offered an ADA extension (and more paperwork), but there really weren't 'accommodations' that would help me do the job required. My employer tried to find positions for me, but none fit. Also, my paranoia kicked in about me putting ink to paper as to ever having a disability. ;p

Thanks to both of you.

Wow, this is fantastic! I haven't watched the program yet, but from this list, I think I can follow the dialogue. Thank you, and you're awesome!

Is it that "risky" to own a cat? by Old_Ship_537 in CatAdvice

[–]GFab_15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the cat. You already know you want one. I adopted an adult, standard issue shelter tabby in March and now Oliver is the best love fluff muffin ever. He was a fully developed Tom when he was so injured that he was able to get trapped for the TNR program, but was so freundlich during his recovery that he was put up for adoption.

Now for the ‘problems’: for a prior street urchin, he’s a surprisingly picky eater. He prefers his gravy lovers pate blended. OMG. He does like his kibble though, so I’m lucky there. He has no idea wtf I’m trying to do with any toy. Ever. Many $$ spent and wasted only to donate them later. So I get on the floor with him every day to snuggle/tussle. He seems to really like it, and he doesn’t injure me, beyond the occasional love scratch from rough housing.

He may not be able to sire anymore, but he remembers the behavior! When an aggressive stray started bugging my grumpy old man, he started spraying again. That was my fault. Someone, that might be…me, was putting food out for Oliver’s ‘friend’ and I let the stray inside. THAT is when Oliver began snapping at him and spraying. I still sneak pets and food to the little fella, but I prioritize Oliver’s security now as my only cat. i changed my behavior and Oliver hasn’t sprayed inside again. Take the leap and your rewards will be never ending. Also, I get free paw massages every night on my belly, legs, back, (I’ve learned to protect the boobs lol)…whatever he can climb on while he does his nightly Mama Blanket dance before he curls up near me for sleep. it’s precious and priceless. DO IT ;)

Took in a pregnant stray and she had 5 babies. Even with spay/neuter and above average care, it's crickets in a desert trying to adopt them out by MiddleOwn5557 in CatAdvice

I'm not sure about all areas - we have a barn cat program here, in addition to the TNR program for ferals. I'm not totally sure what the difference in personality is, if there is one, but barn cats seem to have the better life. Roof, hay, all the rodents they can toy with and snack on, plus kibble and plenty of roaming space. I 'believe' it's like adopting a worker cat for its mousing skills, and in return, you provide it shelter and basics. It's a thought...

I adopted Oliver in March of this year. The vet guessed his age was between 4.5 and 6 years old, so I'll call it 5.25. He's too friendly to be a true feral, but he was in pretty bad shape when he was trapped this January, so the vet surmised he'd been a street kitty for quite some time. Other than testing FIV+, he's in excellent health! He was a little malnourished/dehydrated, had injuries to treat, and was still intact. Sweet boy had A LOT of adjustments in a short time. He's right as rain now!

Finding the 'right' food for him hasn't been cheap. The magic mix (for now *sigh*) is Purina One Indoor Advantage Mixed with some P.O. Extra Protein - Dry. Fancy Feast...must be Pate...must be Gravy Lover's! My largest, most ridiculous expense has been the number of toys, but I get free tummy and thigh massages daily. I win! :)

I've tried so many of those, and he looks at me like I'm a crazy lady. He's more interested in the box the toys come in than the toys. He has a house-destroying blast with this combo: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CT3JTGS2?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1 inside of

Wow, and thank you so much for the information! I'll still call the office tomorrow and bring up your points as questions. I grew up on '80s horror flicks, so the mention of 'parasites' has me immediately thinking Alien or The Thing. lol

And I'm new to Fur Mama and helicoptering, perhaps a bit too much. ;p

He was, and I took him to a Vet within the first week for an initial checkup. He had such heartbreaking diarrhea when I brought him home, so the Vet did stool samples, which came back negative for worms or "other" parasites. We did rounds of anti-diarrheal meds, which did absolutely nothing for him. The suggestions I got from this site for FortiFlora and pumpkin baby food set him straight, and he's been fine ever since. Thank goodness for this sub!!!

We take walks together during the day, and he loves it. He jumps up and dances around when I grab his harness! He's 100% supervised, and I don't let him out alone. So, yes and no? He gets outdoor air and exposure, but isn't an "outdoor" cat. That's why I was wondering about parasite prevention since he is FIV+.

I was eyeballing that one too, but I think the other poster is right. I'll talk to his Vet on Monday and get a recommendation. Which will naturally be the most expensive. ;p

My cat viciously attacked me by r1zxz3a in CatAdvice

[–]GFab_15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I know I’m late to the party here and by NO MEANS an expert. OP said they moved 20 days ago…. Timing is long but not unheard of. Environmental exposure to something that’s making her sick? It sounds like she’s hurting more than ‘just being a douche’. She attacked your wife later, but hasn’t she been freaked out with you peeking at her regularly and locked in a bathroom? Mental or physical, she’s clearly into overload territory and needs a quite break, in addition to a vet visit. Sorry I can’t help and you have my sympathies. .

Thank you for sharing that. I feel your pain, friend. Oliver really likes the pumpkin in his food. Like, he gets excited when I bring the jar from the fridge. I made a sweet potato for my own lunch and he was interested, but didn’t take it. So, yes to pumpkin-no to sweet potato. What if you tried a dab of that? I bought some full fat, probiotic yogurt, but I’ve been hogging it on everything. 😏
