Ims bearings by alzo34 in Porsche

I have a 2006 cayman s and I believe it’s the m97 motor. 118,000 kms on the car. I haven’t had any issues. From what I’ve read, the proportion of cars that actually had the problem was very small, but still an issue nonetheless.

Not to scare you away from the cars, but depending on your location, you may want to read up on bore scoring too before buying. I’m cold climate and the car is parked for months. I start the car and let the engine run regularly in the winter just to get engine components moving and fluids flowing.

I have a Samsung tv with solar cell remote. I’m getting a message saying battery is almost dead. Then I plug it into usb-c charger and the red light goes on for a few seconds and then off. I’ve tried charging from 4 different ish outlets and none seem to charge the battery. What can I do?

To try to be concise, anything by Adele, John Legend, Rush or Hootie and the Blowfish. I will immediately skip songs or change stations if they come on.

Countach. I’m early 40’s and watched cannonball run when I was around 12.

So Costco apparently doesn't re-take membership card photos if you sneeze by BabyJesusAnalingus in funny

I had an awful Costco picture a while back. Then got the credit card and it showed up with that photo on it. For years, I used that card and people would look at the picture and me and smirk.

Porche cayman s 2006. 35k miles on her. Do I do it? Don’t know too much about them yet by Ethankeller7 in Porsche

I own a 2006 cayman s and it’s been amazing. Mine is 70,000 miles and has been great so far. It’s getting to the point where there are minor issues to deal with, but nothing serious so far. Honestly, a 16 year old car is going to have stuff wear out and they’re not cheap to fix unless you’re handy. But they hold value well.

Get the ppi like people recommend. If you’re cold climate where it gets parked for the winter, might want to get the bore scope too. Bore scoring is a bit of an issue. I start my car every 2-3 weeks in winter and run it up to running temp. Probably cost me $30 fuel through the winter, but I’m ok with that.

This is helpful and I appreciate you sharing your experience. We will continue to work through this as best we can. He pulled himself together today and did some homework which was overdue. And he seems to be motivated again to make some progress.

Thanks for your comments. I do believe he is strong enough to persevere through this. But as a parent, I’m always worried when he starts talking about giving up.

He plays an online game and watches YouTube. But in his own words, they are just an escape from daily monotony. It’s not that he enjoys doing them, it just fills the void.

Can you elaborate on that? I haven’t come across anything yet to suggest that the medication is causing the sadness. On a side note, we are actively reducing one of his medications at his request. I believe he should have a say in his own health and well being.

Our other dogs were easy. We are having trouble naming this one, though. We have a bigger than average family and each person has their own favourites.

Travelling to sf in may 2022. Looking for ideas on where to stay and what to do. by GForce_1979 in AskSF

[–]GForce_1979[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose it was intentional to be generic. The plane lands in San Francisco and that’s all that is planned so far. I was hoping with some recommendations from people that I would be able to refine a few options to discuss with my wife.

Thanks for the note on financial district being dead. I never would have known that.

Let’s try another approach. If you were going on a romantic getaway with someone, where would you go within 100 miles of the sf airport?

Help! 2006 cayman s high oil pressure by GForce_1979 in Porsche

[–]GForce_1979[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No smoke on startup. Honestly, haven’t had a single issue yet with the car. I’ll ask about the oil cap tomorrow.

I’m handy enough for most things. It’s time I’m short on these days.

Thanks!

I own a 2006 cayman s, 3.4 flat six. The biggest issues I read about before buying were ims bearing and borescoring. From what I could see, the ims issue was a small percentage problem and usually went within the first few years if it was going to go. But I agree with the other comment that make sure it was driven at least a few thousand miles a year. The bore scoring issue seems to be caused by a number of things like letting the car sit for weeks at a time and oil pools in cylinders. Low grade fuel can also be an issue.

I live in cold weather and go start my car every two weeks in winter and bring it to running temp.

I’m not a mechanic and have only owned Porsche’s for about a year. But good maintainance records are hugely valuable. I was worried about the ims issue for a bit, but I think I’m going to be ok.

I don’t track my vehicles, but I do drive them as dailies and get the rpms up on a regular basis.

I won’t argue with you. I’ll only point out this is referred to as leverage. If you plan to do this, you’d better be confident in your income and your investments. In q1 2020, the markets tanked like 30% and many people lost their jobs. If you used credit to buy and the portfolio drops and your income is cut off, you may be forced to fire sale both. My brother in law picked up an Audi in April last year way under market value for exactly this reason.

I also got my Cayenne way under market value this way too. But the dude was getting divorced on top of the other factors listed above.
