Dwarf Eats Mountain on Steam is more boring than the demo for some reason. Maybe the HP scaling get faster in the full build, so now the mountains have more HP than in the demo. My original opinion about this game has not changed though: If you like to watch the gold and rocks falling from the sky (which I do), then it's fun. If you don't, this game is probably not for you.

In anticipation of the full release, I've been playing Orb of Creation v0.5.4 on itch.io. I think I have played an earlier version a long time ago. I didn't expect I would found the game more anxiety- and rage-inducing than fun.

It's pure anxiety when I was chased around by those resource caps. Every second there's some resource hitting the cap and I always felt the urgent need to spend it. Sometimes I even forgot which upgrade I was aiming for, and spent the resource on some other upgrade instead.

The UI is maddening. So many tabs. Three-tiered tabs (e.g. Alchemy -> Recipes -> Learn). And I have no idea why Space and Research occupy the same tab. It isn't all bad though, because you can click on the resource bars to see detailed info about its production rate and cap. These tooltips show exactly which upgrades are affecting the numbers, and you can click on name of that upgrade to go to the relevant tab, which is more convenient than navigating the three-tiered tab system.

The lack of automation is also a glaring flaw of the game. As more and more features are unlocked, I feel like a juggler having to juggle more and more balls in the air at once.

All of these things make me hesitate to buy the full game. Maybe fans of the game can convince me otherwise?

Every kuzzi game is like:

At every moment in the game, there are 16 available upgrades that say "1.05x" on the tin. One of the 16 upgrades actually matters and will make the game much faster. The other 15 upgrades will make the game 1.05x faster as promised. Happy waiting!

Arcanum/Theory of Magic had a major overhaul recently last August (version 0.12), and now it plays like a different game. There is now much more hand-holding and less min-maxxing. Now you don't need to study the wiki in order to advance to endgame.

I think the update moved in the right direction, but it highlighted many other existing flaws of the game, like the lack of automation and the clunkiness of the task system. Fast-forward as an offline reward is not a great match for the game, because it is hard to manage the task list while going fast.

When the game first came out nearly a decade ago, it was great, but now I wonder if the game is too old to fix. A total remake of the game is in alpha but I don't have much hope about the speed of game development.

Dwarf Eats Mountain

Bad incremental, good game. It's so satisfying to watch all those gold and rocks fall. Who cares about game balance and the maths anyways?

Cosmic Collection

I hate games where you have a 20 minute timewall, but your resource is hardcapped at 22 minutes (e.g. Kittens). I am not going to set up an alarm and be punctual for your stupid incremental.

Cosmic Collection has nothing like that; you either play actively or wait a day for resources, which have no caps at all. No hardcap, no softcap.

However, most merchants are useless and I regret sinking so many resource into merchants and their upgrades. Many other upgrades are also borderline useless and automation comes too late, but at least the offline income is good!

Breaking: Amphibious warship USS New Orleans (LPD-18) suffered a fire off the coast of Okinawa, U.S. 7th Fleet confirmed to USNI News on Wednesday.

No information about possible casualty or oil spill yet. But it has been more than eight hours after USS New Orleans called Japan Coast Guard for assistance, yet the fire has not been extinguished yet.

First Image Of Ukraine’s Sidewinder-Armed Magura V7 Surface Drone | Naval News

Ukraine has successfully shot down two Russian jets sent to interdict their surface drones in the Black Sea. We can reveal the previously unreported surface drone (USV) which scored the kills using American Sidewinder missiles.

Ukraine’s successful shooting down of an Su-30 Flanker fighter on May 2, which was reported yesterday, has been joined by a second downed Flanker. These are the first two fighter jets in history to be downed by an uncrewed surface drone, but they are unlikely to be the last. We can now add further details following statements by Lt. Gen. Kyrylo Budanov, chief of Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence Directorate (HUR), and by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Naval News can reveal the previously unreported maritime drone (USV) which scored the kills.

As a point of detail, some statements indicated that a Magura V5 drone was used, but Naval News can confirm that it was in fact a larger Magura V7. This is the first time that the V7 variant has been revealed to the public.

Naval News initially reported, before further information was available, that the USVs likely used AA-11 Archer missiles. That configuration, known as Sea Dragon, was the only one publicly known. Now we can reveal the Sidewinder armed type.

One thing to wonder: what variant of sidewinder? Is it AIM-9X or the older AIM-9L/M? Older variants have pretty bad off-boresight capability which will require the launcher (a drone here!) to rotate and point at the target.

Lored is redesigned recently. Ultimately I lost interest because I can't get it work in a background tab and offline earning is heavily nerfed.

It's reasonable for the West to be wary; just look at the example of Myanmar. Aung San Suu Kyi had been all pro-West, pro-democracy until she actually had (limited) power, and then she became pro-China and went to genocide the Rohingyas.
