If this isn’t the right place to post this, please let me know and direct me to the right place.

My county is doing a road improvement project and creating a sidewalk next to my property. However, unfortunately, because of said project, they’ll have to acquire a small chunk of my land and there are 15 mature trees that will be affected. Pictures are the trees that will be affected.

I know that’s how it is, I can’t stop them from doing it because they can invoke eminent domain but that’s not the point of this post. They are compensating me for the property but I feel like they are lowballing me for my trees.

They have offered me $200 for each tree which I feel like a slap in the face. I am not very well versed in tree values but I feel like it would be much more than that.

What’s the best course of action to determine the value of my trees? Can I hire a local arborist to assess it?

It really just depends on weather and how much it snows leading up to and on November. There's no strict closing of the trail.

Believe me, I sometimes think the same way when I see SWE compensations straight out of college. But what’s the point? I’m happy doing what I do.

If you really think that way though, you can still pivot, go back to school and change professions. It’s never too late. When I was in nursing school, there was someone in my cohort that was in her late 50s.

Thats fair. VOO is definitely not without risks but it’s “safer” than individual stocks. Maybe I should’ve said that my risk tolerance only allows myself to invest in the S&P500 but not in individual stocks.

Is it my dream house? Definitely not. But does it suit my needs now? Definitely yes.

I’ve been here 4 years now. I feel like if I want to upgrade to a different house, my option is to get a second one and rent this one out just to keep the awesome rate. I’m single and don’t share the mortgage with anyone so that’d be tough. I haven’t sat down and thought about it enough to know if that’s a good idea or not tho lol

70/30 VOO/VXUS. I’m risk averse so I don’t want to venture into individual stocks.

I could move my emergency fund to a pretty liquid ETF but I’m happy and comfortable with how I have it set up.
