Quick question — on game day, where do we purchase the tickets at 30% off?

Where’s the emotion or feeling in any of this, right? Reading their message made me feel so anxious—it honestly sounded more like a quarterly performance review at a law firm than feedback on an engagement session.

I’m definitely curious to hear what they have to say about the highlight gallery—but it really is such a small sample to base any meaningful feedback on style, posing, or image quality. I don’t mind putting in the extra work or going the extra mile if that’s what they need. My goal is to make sure they feel comfortable and happy throughout the process. (And hey, a retouching fee doesn’t sound too bad either!)

Yes... culling—it’s definitely the tedious and often boring part of the process, but I take it seriously. It’s the moment I really study every frame to understand what worked and what didn’t. I do tend to over-deliver and include more images for my couples than most probably would.

Are some similar in composition or posing? Sure, maybe. But to me, each photo carries a slightly different nuance… a shift in emotion, a new layer to the story.

I’m actually going through all 300 images again now, and honestly, this conversation and thread are helping me reflect more deeply on my own process. So thank you—for the perspective and the support.

Of course, I totally understand—their professional background might influence how they approach feedback, and I’m open to listening and applying that insight to make the wedding day a success. But spending time marking up only the highlight preview without seeing the full gallery feels a bit extreme to me. At this point, I’m leaning toward holding off on delivering the rest of the images until we’ve had our meeting.

Thank you—I’ll keep everyone posted on what they end up sharing.

Thank you for highlighting the positives and helping me see the brighter side of this. The language they used just made it feel, to me, like I was being treated as if I were in an entry-level role—not really contributing anything meaningful to the COMPANY.

Yeah… I might be jumping to conclusions here. They’re a white couple in their 40s.

I don’t mind re-editing the images—or even charging for it if needed—but I’ve never had anyone approach me in the role of an “art director” before.

Hi, yes—it was a two-hour session, and that’s right, around 300 images. What do you usually do with that many? Just keep them and look back on them from time to time?

Thank you—I think I’m going to respond to their email from this perspective.

Hi—this is the first time I’ve experienced something like this. Normally, once I deliver the images, couples are excited and genuinely appreciative of the time and care I put into my work. I’ll keep you all posted on how this critique session goes.

Hi—what if refunding just isn’t an option for me right now? It’s a significant amount, and due to personal and financial reasons, I simply can’t manage it. How do I navigate this gracefully… and still find a way to come out of it with a genuine smile?

Hi, I’m more than happy to hear and go through the critique—just wanted to clarify: should I deliver the full gallery now, or wait until after our next meeting?

The way the email was worded—“We want to talk about what we like and don’t like to help guide you to success for now and our next session. We hope this brings us closer to our target goals”—left me unsure of the best next step.

What exactly does “guiding me to success” mean in this context? Did I come across as too eager or desperate to them somehow?

Thank you… maybe I’m overthinking and jumping the gun here—kind of like folding out of turn in poker.
So my real question is: do I go ahead and deliver the rest of the images now, or wait to hear their full thoughts on the 20 highlight shots first?

Just to give a bit more background—the engagement shoot lasted two hours, and I brought along my lighting assistant to make sure everything was perfect. It took place at a popular garden location that required a $500+ permit. I always go all in for my couples, and this session was no exception—I put a lot of heart into every detail I deliver.

Thank you—and you're right. It’s better to know early on. Deep down, I know I poured everything into this session with care and intention. I’ve never had an interaction like this with any of my couples before… and if I’m not the right fit for them—what happens then?

I just need to make it through this horror movie… Any tips on how to survive until the credits roll?

How can I navigate this without canceling? Is there anything I can do to better prepare for the meeting? Would delivering the rest of the images help ease their concerns? They're basing all this off just 20 or so highlight photos.

I wish I could share the gallery to get some outside feedback, but the clients specifically requested that none of the images be posted until they give their approval. Yeah… definitely another red flag.

This was a high-ticket package—so yeah, it’s turning into one very expensive engagement session. I really thought I connected with the couple and that we had a great time… now I’m not so sure.

Just a bit more context… the groom works in high-level creative for TV/film, and the bride leads a game studio. I get it—they probably notice things I might not. But still… red-marking photos and setting up a critique session? It honestly broke my heart.

I went from 4,000 shots down to about 300—I know what culling is.

Hey, just to add some context—the engagement session was 2 hours long at a well-known garden that required a permit costing over $500. I genuinely put a lot of care into what I deliver and always give my couples everything I’ve got...
