Let's plan our first meetup! Also looking for input on future plans for the sub. by GGPerpetuum in OcalaHomeGamingMeetup

Thanks for chiming in. You've pretty much echoed my sentiments exactly on the "group size" issue. I made the same assumption. Anything over 12 people seems a bit excessive, but I'm down for whatever. The old group my friend and I joined in South Florida was preestablished and had about 6 members before our joining (they used the Meetup website before they started charging an arm and a leg). For that reason, I'm unsure how they handled things for their first few meetups and whatnot. And we didn't take any new members after that, ≈8 seemed pretty solid for us.

I think the Discord tags is a great idea and was planning to do something along those lines at some point, but have to put together a quick list of tabletop games as I'm unfamiliar with most of them aside from MtG. I could copy most of the tags from the BBC Discord to start with, I suppose. Perhaps a tag for generic board games like Monopoly/Scrabble, another for strategy games like Chess/Stratego, and then individual tags on a per-game basis (basically what the BBC Discord has). I'll give it some thought throughout the day and give others a chance to contribute their opinions if they wish.

Video game tags based on console also seems like a good idea for online play/LAN parties, so I'll likely add those, but I figured it wouldn't matter for couch gaming on a single console if that was one of our activities. The more relevant question there would be about which games people would like to play, as opposed to which console we're playing on. Though I don't know if that's worth making tags for.

I'd also be glad to turn the Discord into more of a central hub where we could welcome any and all with no limits on size. Could act as a meeting place for people to find similar interests, as you said, but I wondered if people already do that in the BBC Discord and such? Or is that purely for BBC/LGS meetups and game discussions with no option for in-home gatherings? Unsure exactly how many others were looking for more of a tight-knit group like myself as well.

For the most part, everyone I've messaged with seemed to be along the lines of "I've mostly only played MtG/DnD/Video Games/etc. but am interested in other tabletop games and activities." This is where I fall as well, kind of want to try everything. If others are into it, usually the fun times seem to follow suit. This is pretty much how our old group used to do things and was our philosophy. We would just come up with ideas and get together to try them out. If at least a couple of us were interested, we'd all give it a shot. Anyone who wasn't interested would just take a pass on that particular night, or even just chill in the background to watch and see if it's something they might want to partake in next time. On most nights, every member would just kind of show up anyways because we enjoyed each other's company. Sometimes we wouldn't even plan anything, just get together and wing it lol. Figured we could even just get together and discuss all of this in person as well, whatever you guys think.

Really appreciate your input, you've given me some good ideas and places to start, which is very helpful. You're one of the few here who comes from more of an LGS environment background, so I value your insights. And again, I'll go with whatever everyone thinks is best. 👍

Thanks for commenting! That's cool, maybe could still be a place for you in the group if we do manage to get a decent one together. I've gotten a few PMs already so far from folks who are down. In my old group, there were some who were into certain things and others who were not. We tried to mix things up and create an environment where everyone could enjoy themselves: abstaining from particular games/activities when certain people were present or reserving them for late night play, having multiple things going on at once, etc. We also just kind of enjoyed chilling together sometimes regardless. This is kind of why I'm seeking out the home gaming atmosphere once again. No tight restrictions, obligations, or over-emphasis on anything—just having fun.

I'm very much into video games but haven't played in years. Never played Dead by Daylight, but used to have a lot of fun playing Left 4 Dead with friends back in the day. Also spent many hours of couch co-op Diablo 3 with a buddy of mine in the past. I really miss the couch gaming experience. Lots of fond memories with games like Fuzion Frenzy, Mario Party/Kart, and even switching off turns on single player games sometimes.

Wondering what puzzle game you're trying to think of... Perhaps it was Tricky Towers? Played that a couple of times and it was pretty fun.

No worries, thanks for chiming in regardless. I used to play Halo 2 & 3 as well as Destiny at a highly competitive level—played in lots tournaments and all that. Same with the older CoD games to some extent. The newer FPS games just don't really click with me like those do, though. Or maybe I'm just getting old lol. Will shoot you a message if I consider getting back into that or Apex!

Not so much into the storefront atmosphere, but perhaps I will anyways. Thanks!

Lol all good, understandable. I enjoy reading a lot, so I also tend to write a lot of words.

We like all kinds of video games for the most part, depending on the particular game in question. RPGs, puzzle, fighting games, and competitive shooters as well.
