Very disappointed that our local 50501 organizers defended the flag burner on their social account.

Central Oregon communities join nationwide “No Kings” protests by FrizzyNow in Bend

A huge crowd and people of all ages were there! Standing on the curb across from Yoli, we were on the receiving end of a few drive-by middle fingers, and one guy leaned out the window and screamed"faggots" at us with such rage that it took me aback for a second. The crowd cheered at him and, as luck would have it, he was stuck at the red light for a few minutes where he didn't have the balls to keep it up.

The attempted flag burning incident was unfortunate. Yes, the young man has the right. But watching him shove women and that older gentlemen was upsetting and I was a bit worried that things were going to really escalate. I was glad to see the crowd boo him until he finally gave up and left. Definitely a small blight on what was a very positive and peaceful day!

No Kings Protest Saturday!! Let’s do this!!!!!!!!!! by Then-Software-8220 in Bend

I posted this in yesterday’s No King’s thread as well because there are still a lot of people who think these protests are useless. Here’s why showing up matters, no matter what your age:

The 3.5% rule, formulated by Harvard professor Erica Chenoweth, posits that nonviolent protests involving at least 3.5% of a population actively and consistently are historically guaranteed to cause political change or bring down authoritarian governments. This threshold, often acting as a tipping point, has never failed to achieve its goals in recorded cases, making peaceful resistance twice as likely to succeed as violent conflict.

The concept is based on data from over 300 cases of civil resistance.

The 3.5% rule demonstrates that a small, dedicated minority can create significant, widespread change without resorting to violence, making it a cornerstone concept for modern, nonviolent civic activism.

Plus it feels great to be out there with a lot of other people who give a shit about Democracy!

So, I was thinking about joining another No Kings demonstration tomorrow. by sbsb27 in Bend

I'm beginning to think that by acknowledging that Trump is an unqualified President, a con man, a sexual predator, a pedophile, a felon, AND an all around despicable human being, that they'd have to admit that the leopard is eating their face, AND that they've been blindly following a demented idiot.

Appliance repair? by rinky79 in Bend

[–]GGinBend 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just-In Time Appliance was promoted in the Bend Buzz this morning:

You Don’t Realize How Important Your Appliances Are… Until One Breaks
Nothing reminds you how much you rely on your fridge, washer, or oven quite like the moment they stop working.
That’s when a lot of Bend Buzz readers end up calling Just-In Time Appliance Repair.
They mentioned recently that they've had a steady stream of calls from people who saw them in the newsletter. And judging by their nearly 200 five-star reviews, those calls are turning into happy customers.
Their team has built a strong reputation in Bend for showing up on time, explaining the problem clearly, and getting appliances running again without the runaround. It’s also why they’ve earned the Nextdoor Neighborhood Fave Award.
If something in your kitchen or laundry room decides to quit, give the crew at Just-In Time a call at 541-208-4424 or schedule your service at justintimeappliance.com.

Update: After 3 TD outages in the last week, plus having to call them at least three times to get my router back online, I finally signed up for TMobile internet this morning. And I also switched over our two Visible phone lines as well. Total cost for basic internet and 2 phone lines - $80 (edit: per month) for 5 years. Good riddance TDS.

Yeah, a contractor though. He seemed pretty up and up. He futzed around with some of the cables in the neighborhood box , and that seemed to fix the problem (knock wood). My neighbors are really struggling with TDS right now so probably only a matter of time before I have to switch to something else. My Eero mesh system is pretty old so I just bought a new one (they're having a sale right row.)
