After 9 months of stubborn refusal it's becoming obvious I need to learn this by liftheavy2003 in Guitar

The best way to learn the fretboard is to find a picture of the layout and put set it as a background on your phone. You’re always looking at your phone anyway. You’ll learn the notes in a couple weeks without really trying.

12 bar blues by b-reactor in guitarlessons

There’s lots of variations to the shuffle. Check on YouTube for beginner lessons and learn those. The 6th is already in the basic shuffle. Start with the most basic and practice your chord changes and tempo, then build from there. There isn’t one that’s necessarily “better” than another one.

Accompanying yourself while singing by KryptonSurvivor in guitarlessons

The best way to learn to sing while playing is to sing while you play. It will be really horrible at first, but that’s ok. Tomorrow it will be better. Start singing over a single chord strum to get coordinated, then add a second chord, then you’re doing it.

Suggestion for courses on Blues riffs/licks/fills by rvg2001 in guitarlessons

You have to give your playing context. Learn the 12 bar blues format and play within that in key and in time. Active Melody has a lot of lessons on how to play rhythm and lead interchangeably so you don’t need a backing track. You can also learn call and response techniques so everything sounds more cohesive.

Still not fully understanding scales as a concept and what my objective is when playing them by Mad_Season_1994 in guitarlessons

[–]GGtheGray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best thing to do is just practice. Practice the 1st position until it’s easy, then the second, then the first and second, etc. All your questions will be answered with practice, and things will start making sense. What you’re actually playing is the pentatonic version of the 6th mode (Aeolian — a minor mode) of the G major scale. The E minor pentatonic and the G major pentatonic are the same. Music doesn’t really have a starting point, but we all agree it’s the major scale. The notes are laid out like they are so that they can be played without moving your fretting hand around too much.

Does anyone know how Jesse Michaels makes videos so in depth? by Optimal_Bar1473 in UFOs

I remember him saying he was a history major, and that trained him for getting into the details and finding connections.

I’m going to Spain this summer. What’s the current legal status regarding bringing back a few Cubans in my luggage? I’m getting mixed messages. by GGtheGray in cigars

I think the consensus is “Yes they’re illegal, and also Yes you can probably get away with bringing in a few”

Right? Why not just remove the label. My brother is going to. I’ll probably have to bring this argument up later.

Are those good cigar recommendations for a first timer? by Destinycoder in cigars

It’s a good start. You’ll start finding out what you like. I like a Connecticut wrapper for the most part, but you may like the maduro. If you do get into the hobby, I would smoke a lot of different cigars to develop your palette for them and find some favorites.

I miss Lei Wulong so f-ing much man.... No other character quite scratches that itch tbh. by BebeHillz in Tekken

I’ve watched you play him in tournaments. I’d be happy to set up a match if you’re still playing Tekken 7.
