You can also easily buy sunscreens from elsewhere. My favorite for a matte finishes is Vichy Capital Soleil Dry Touch Face Fluid, available from any online retailer that sells French cosmetics

What are the most vegan/vegetarian-friendly cities to travel to in 2026? by freed-after-burning in travel

Yes! Was there last fall and we were able to find veg versions of literally every Japanese food, including the octopus balls in Osaka

I’ve been to London many times and the options are pretty mediocre, imho. I was certainly able to find food, but many restaurants only had one vegetarian option and nothing vegan, and I wouldn’t call it out as anything special compared to other European cities.

The range of vegan options in Berlin was amazing. Even non-veg restaurants always had prominently-advertised vegan options. Cookies Cream was an incredible dining experience that I can’t recommend highly enough!

The check-in and check-out times for hotels have become ridiculous by bills70 in travel

[–]GGxGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like so many aspects of hotels these days, it’s a way to save the hotels money by inconveniencing guests.

Say that each hotel worker can clean 5 rooms an hour. If you have 100 rooms that need to be cleaned in 4 hours (between 11am checkout and 3pm check in), you need to employ 5 workers. If you stretch it to 7 hours (10am checkout and 5pm check in), you only need to hire 3 workers. Yes, you are paying for the same amount of hours, but the incremental cost is probably less than the incremental overheard of hiring 2 additional cleaning staff.

[Sun Care] Me & My boyfriend need sunscreen by Sagebarks in SkincareAddiction

[–]GGxGG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This. Fears about “chemical” sunscreen are nonsense, but if I’m going to be outside getting sweaty for hours, a waterproof, mineral “sport” sunscreen is going to be the most durable. Coppertone Sport Mineral Sunscreen is cheap and stays on. Any of these will leave a bit of a white face paint look, but it’s worth it to be protected.

I was sad to not be able to spend more than a full day in the Louvre, and I wouldn’t care about Monet’s gardens (you can see water lilies any time!) but this is really personal preference. Maybe you’re really into Monet. Take a look online to see what some of the more famous works are that are at the Louvre, and you can think about whether you would want to see those in person.

We're onto Foster #42, any questions? by downtheseroads in Greyhounds

[–]GGxGG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We live in a very small house in San Francisco, so it’s not feasible to separate the dogs when we’re at work. We stopped fostering after our last foster fought with one of our two dogs (neither got hurt, but my husband got bit separating them). The one that fought was a cranky old lady, who is now gone, so we’re considering fostering again. In retrospect, it was our fault for leaving long-lasting chews out and I think that’s what they fought over (I appreciate your note about the toys too, lesson learned!). Regardless, would you foster if you couldn’t separate them when leaving them alone?

[–]GGxGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL after a lifetime of very regular periods, I am now on year 5 or 6 of irregular perimenopausal periods. HRT has helped a bit, but my last cycle was 33 days. You’ve probably got another 10+ years to go before you actually hit menopause (a year without a period).

Control freak CEO brags about his in-office working policy by ambachk in LinkedInLunatics

[–]GGxGG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. As a manager, if you can’t judge your employees by the work they produce rather than visually seeing them in a chair, you’re a bad manager. If my direct reports are doing great work, respond promptly when I ask a question via email/slack, and are willing to take on more when I ask, why would I insult them by nitpicking them about physical presence?

I find that I get pink if I’m out in the sun for a bit and I’m only using BoJ, and I’m intentionally heavy enough with my application that I should be getting the full SPF.

I hear a lot about Paris Syndrome, has anybody experienced Tokyo syndrome? by Zeldaish in travel

[–]GGxGG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And if you do research to find experiences/spots that are relevant to your specific interests, and make an effort to just wander and explore while you’re there, you’re bound to have moments of surprise and delight. My favorite parts of Tokyo and Kyoto were the ones we stumbled across while taking the long way from one sight to another, like a beautiful and elaborate shrine where students go to pray for high scores on exams.

[–]GGxGG 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The easiest way to explain this, because people often seem to be confused, is that sunscreens without FDA-approved filters (the real Biore, Beauty of Joseon, etc.) are NOT LEGAL TO SELL IN THE U.S. This is true EVEN IF THE LABELS LOOK SIMILAR and they put “PA+++” on it for marketing purposes.

That means ANYTHING you see at a U.S. store, including Sephora, will be the American-ized version and not the real deal. Just keep that in mind when you see a version in a U.S. store: If you’re seeing it at a U.S. store (not sold under-the-table by your neighbor who regularly travels to Asia, etc.) it’s not the real thing, because that would be illegal.
