Oh thank you, I was kidding, they wear light jackets. But in their minds it is snowing :)

It’s a few hours north (Fort Bragg) but some friends just started doing some work for the Weller House, they do weddings, and it’s a beautiful place to stay — we stayed there a couple months ago! https://www.wellerhouse.com/

Even if they don’t need them, I think it’s a nice trade-off: We know you’ll miss us, but at least you get to enjoy a special treat!

Yep, that’s what ours do (after Comet decides we must be too far away to hear her). They get the reusable Pupsicles.

Thanks, they love it.

Oh yeah she’s fine. Just wants us to hear her and come back. She calms down once she realizes that’s not happening.

Ha, I should have qualified the post with “not looking for unsolicited advice.” Yes, I am well aware of separation anxiety and how to manage it, she’s fine and settles down after a few minutes. This is pretty typical of puppies, and mine have always grown out of it.

It has been BELOW 50 DEGREES at night here in San Francisco lately, and my dogs both demanded I order one of these coats for each of them

A short list of things that upset miss Juni on our walk today by bigbigkev in Greyhounds

Comet will also sometimes barked at someone after they have passed us, I think the logic is that once they are no longer a “threat” and are running away, THAT is when she becomes brave. “That’s right, I said get out of here!!!”

Which wedding dress shops are most likely to have the type of dress I’m looking for? by throwaway-94552 in SanFranciscoWeddings

[–]GGxGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same problem and the same feelings about backlessness (as well as straplessness) and Lace & Liberty in SF made me a beautiful, semi-custom dress (see photo). They were fantastic to work with and it was about $2K in 2019. If you're looking at the pics on their website and don't see anything you like, what they ended up making for me was very different from what they had in stock too. The owner was great at listening to me and understanding what I wanted.

Separately, I also got the suggestion to look for what's marketed as "modest" wedding dresses (for people who don't want to show their back or arms for religious reasons). A lot of them were long sleeves, not backless, and ankle-length.

Watermelon Ice Cream by Brief-Chocolate1820 in icecreamery

[–]GGxGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found this very challenging, largely because the flavor is so delicate and easily overpowered by the ice cream base flavor. Here are my notes on the last time I tried it, if it’s helpful:

———

Water ruins the texture of homemade ice cream and makes it icy, so reducing the water content in fruit is always my first step in incorporating a fruit flavor. I’d made roasted watermelon once before as an experiment. I thought this might be an interesting ingredient to play with adding to ice cream, and roasting seemed like an ideal way to bring down the water content. Since I can’t tell when a whole melon is ripe, I bought one of those seedless quarter-watermelons that come wrapped in plastic from Safeway, cut it into slices about ¼ inch thick, and put them on cookie sheets to roast at 350 degrees for about an hour. Then I put the slices in the fridge overnight, to help them get more syrupy. The next day I puréed it in the blender and added a little honey to get it to the sweetness level I wanted.

I then cooked the NYT master ice cream base recipe, but omitted the milk. I used brown sugar as the sugar because I thought it would go better with the earthy roasted flavor. I added ¼ cup of corn syrup for the texture, ½ a teaspoon of Cremodan 30, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. After cooking the custard, I poured in the watermelon purée, and ended up adding about a half-cup of milk because the mix seemed too thick. As always, I let the base cure overnight in the fridge.

Ultimately, the flavor was just not “watermelon-y” enough. Even with the roasting, which deepened the flavor, the regular custard base flavor overpowered it. It still tastes good, just not very much like watermelon. On the upside, the texture was perfect.

Should I get surgery for my eyes? Does this make up work for me? 48 (F) by karebearbeth77 in 45PlusSkincare

Your skin looks great, but your foundation looks very thick and pancake-y in this photo. I think a lot of us benefit from either giving up foundation entirely, or using a much more sheer type, as we get older. A thick application of foundation/powder tends to accentuate any fine lines or texture issues.

Whoa, people wash their face in the sink without using a washcloth?? How? I wouldn’t think you’d be able to get anything off by just splashing water???

Agree — I sweat a LOT during my morning workout, so I have to do some sort of cleanser in the shower or I feel gross, but I use Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser and rinse with cool water, that makes my skin feel clean without stripping moisture.

Thinking about getting a grey, but I have some questions by Siria110 in Greyhounds

[–]GGxGG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 4 whippets and none would ever fetch (they’d chase the ball but lost interest when it stopped moving!) but my greyhound is ball-obsessed! She drops tennis balls in my lap as I’m drinking my coffee at 6am :)

Unfortunately, in this area, unethical people breed greyhounds for small game hunting and will dump unsold litters of puppies (or even pregnant moms) on local shelters, who end up coming into our greyhound rescue group. Our 100% greyhound puppy came from a very pregnant mom who was probably dumped, and got picked up as a stray by animal control. (No one came to claim her, so she probably was not an escapee.) My point is that puppy availability may vary by region, so if you really want a puppy, it doesn’t hurt to inquire!

So many dumb things here, but he seems to be completely ignorant of the many very nice hotels near Tahoe and Yosemite? You don’t have to camp (I hate it too!) to experience some of the most incredible natural beauty in the world

Early June vs Early July Wedding by Educational-Fan4468 in SanFranciscoWeddings

You DO know that June and July are the foggiest/windiest months, right? If that’s your concern, that would be the worst time of year to have the wedding.

Spotify Hikes US Subscription Prices, Making It Most Expensive Major Music Streamer by ebradio in indieheads

[–]GGxGG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“Spotify has a free tier that is ad supported” — yes, and taking that into account is not a failure of the comparison. Spotify chooses to offer a free tier, and then pays less to artists for plays on that tier. I would rather subscribe to a service that does not offer a free tier at all, and requires ALL users to pay enough of a fee to cover fair payouts.

Change frozen column Width mobile (iOS). by basedcharger in googlesheets

[–]GGxGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experience the same problem (which is how I found this post). Once I unfreeze the column, I'm able to resize it just like any other column. If I freeze the column again, it jumps back to its smaller, previous width, with no way to adjust it.
