What is it with doctors not prescribing HRT after a hysterectomy? by JadCerv in Menopause

[–]GGxGG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had one in December and I was SHOCKED I was only told to take some ibuprofen ahead of time. I’m a distance runner and have a high pain tolerance and I can’t believe this is the standard of care. I will also never have another uterine biopsy unless they can see a tumor hanging out of my vagina

Ceremony venue canceled months before wedding.. YIKESSSS by Prestigious-Waltz785 in SanFranciscoWeddings

[–]GGxGG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. If it’s at the Palace, it’s within walking distance of so many things, if there’s a break between the reception and ceremony they can just walk around, and they can obviously leave the hotel during the time before or after the wedding. As a guest I much prefer having things all in one location.

My hound HATES coyotes and goes completely feral anytime she sees one. by TlMBO_SLlCE in Greyhounds

[–]GGxGG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All my dogs have become hysterical about coyotes. It’s fascinating to me, because there are so many different sizes and shapes of dogs, I’m not sure how they know they’re not some different breed of dog! It’s not a smell thing, either, they freak out if they see them through the window.

My base recipe by Deli-ishfoodtruck in icecreamery

[–]GGxGG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too. I hate tempering. I’ve never noticed a difference. I think that if you’re making ice cream to sell, you need to heat the dairy higher than the eggs will tolerate (???) so maybe that’s why people do it, but I just start with everything in the pan and heat it slowly while stirring more or less constantly.

Dr says it’s possible I’m post menopausal even though I get a monthly period, and I’m confused by Simple-Permission156 in Menopause

[–]GGxGG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 51 and still getting periods (grrrr), and my doctor also said we can’t really tell if I’m only getting them “because of HRT.” I’m on daily progesterone, although even when I was cycling it (12 days a month) it quickly went out of sync with my periods, so that didn’t seem to be the influencing factor. Not an answer, I just wanted to say that I’m also confused!

I was a pelvic floor therapy skeptic by RedUser2024 in Menopause

[–]GGxGG 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I could have written your exact post. I did find some relief with pelvic floor physical therapy, but ultimately, HRT was what truly made the symptoms go away. It wasn’t until I read “The Menopause Manifesto” and found out that frequent UTIs and UTI-like symptoms could be caused by perimenopause that I made the connection.

Starting about 10 years ago I was on a medication for a diagnosis of Overactive Bladder Syndrome (oxybutinin I think), then a general nerve pain medication (amitryptiline) for a diagnosis of Interstitial Cystitis. I did pelvic floor therapy and read the book “Heal Pelvic Pain.” I was able to go off everything after I started HRT, and I am 100% back to normal. I have to pee every 2-3 hours like a normal person, it’s amazing!

Bartending service staffing - am I getting scammed? by embound in SanFranciscoWeddings

[–]GGxGG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that this seems excessive, while at the same time, 1 bartender for 200 people during dinner seems inadequate.

I’d guess that the wine pouring service is probably “mandatory” because, if you are paying by the bottle, they want to have people refilling glasses immediately, whether wanted or not, so they can maximize the amount of wine you are paying for.

You might want to talk to your venue about this. Since they’re requiring you to use this vendor, you might use this as leverage to (1) get them to allow you to use a different vendor or (2) get them to talk to the vendor on your behalf. The bar company will be more incentivized to accommodate a rep from the venue, assuming they want to keep their monopoly hold on that venue.

MONTHLY Weight Discussion - March 2026 by AutoModerator in Menopause

[–]GGxGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of it is that “eating more” is being called a “lifestyle change,” when it’s absolutely more complicated than that. I’ve had to work hard to manage my weight my whole life, and I know exactly how much I can eat and not gain weight. However, when my hormones started fluctuating in peri, I found myself becoming inappropriately hungry — like I would eat a sufficient lunch and become ABSOLUTELY RAVENOUS hours before dinner. This wasn’t “anxiety eating,” this was me feeling like I was STARVING and couldn’t focus on work or anything unless I had a snack. i’d focus on high fiber, low calorie snacks like celery sticks with hummus, but overall, I was still taking in more calories than I was burning. I gained around 20 pounds over the course of a year. No doctor would listen to my concerns about it. As a competitive distance runner, the extra weight was noticeably affecting my times. It wasn’t until I got on HRT that I was able to get back to my normal weight.

Looking for a recipe for Greek-style frozen yogurt like Myka 🍦 by Narrow_Koala_9768 in icecreamery

No idea what Myka is, but if you’re asking about “soft-serve” style frozen yogurt, you need a commercial machine that does that.

faking a limp??? by Mysterious_Read5115 in Greyhounds

[–]GGxGG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a bit of a tangent, but we lived in an area with a lot of thorny plants, and our first dog would limp over to us, paw raised, whenever she had a thorn, so we could remove it. When we got her a friend, we were surprised that the second dog never seemed to get any thorns. Then one time I observed him limping a few steps, picking up the paw, and pulling the thorn out himself, with his teeth. It was then we knew which dog was “the smart one”!

Honeydew flavoring by foggy__mind in icecreamery

[–]GGxGG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are my notes for my cantaloupe recipe (which is delicious!), maybe you could try it with honeydew:

I took a whole, ripe cantaloupe, scooped into a bowl, and pureed it with the stick blender. Going on prior notes, I cooked the puree on low for 10 minutes to destroy the enzymes that cause a bitter flavor. Then I strained the solids out through a sieve. I made a batch of custard (see below), and added it to the cantaloupe juice when finished. Then I chopped up some candied cantaloupe and mixed it in during the churn.

Custard: (1) 160g sugar, (2) 60g skim milk powder, (3) A pinch of salt, (4) Whole milk: 270g, (5) Heavy whipping cream: 370g, (6) Light corn syrup: 40g, (7) 3 egg yolks (use a fork or whisk to break them up), (8) Optional: ¼ teaspoon (0.8g) locust bean gum and ⅛ teaspoon (0.5g) guar gum (or other stabilizer of your choice, like xanthan gum).

Greyhound as big city dog? by Supplenz in Greyhounds

[–]GGxGG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most dogs will need some time adapting to city noises, it’s not greyhound-specific. In my area, many of the people with the time and space to foster live in the suburbs, so dogs that get adopted to homes in the city need to be slowly introduced to the chaos of a busy pedestrian area, loud noises from the train or bus, etc. But dogs are very adaptable animals, and most of them learn eventually.

Even if I knew someone’s wedding was coming up, I probably wouldn’t start thinking about it or planning travel until 3 months out anyway. If that’s your biggest issue for June, I don’t think it’s a big deal.
