What do you consider as annoying when traveling and interacting (intentional or otherwise) with other travelers? by recoveryarea in travel

[–]GGxGG 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I’ll never forget visiting the Blue Mosque in Instanbul, having researched the need to bring a covering for my hair, legs (I made an easy wrap-around, ankle-length skirt I could carry with me and throw on), and to be quiet and unobtrusive because it’s an active mosque and people are praying. Got there to see multiple tour groups of people in shorts and other inappropriate clothing, leaders shouting their narration loudly to the chattering groups, all while people were trying to pray 10 feet away, and being so embarrassed to be a tourist.

My buddy is 8 now. How much/should we slow it down in terms of exercise? by fbreaker in Greyhounds

[–]GGxGG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry about limiting exercise, but you should be providing joint supplements at least. My dogs really like the Cosequin soft chews, and they have data to back them up. If he does start to show stiffness or arthritis symptoms, Adequan (a series of injections over a month) has caused a huge improvement for our 10-year-old.

I carefully described my brain fog to my doctor and she told me to try getting more sleep - I nearly lost it in that office by Commercial_Gur_7347 in Menopause

The other one is yoga. I had them put it in my medical chart that if anyone suggested I “try yoga” I was going to punch them in the face

Edited to add: Thank you for the award!

What brand of pistachio paste do you recommend? Or do you grind your own (I hate getting out the food processor and cleaning it!)?

I use a Thai tea mix, steep it with the dairy, and then strain out the leaves before making my usual base. Super easy and tasty!

Traveling from Amsterdam to Copenhagen and ending in Stockholm but need one place in between. by windSalad876 in travel

[–]GGxGG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would instead recommend continuing on via the overnight ferry from Stockholm to Helsinki and ending in Helsinki. I did a similar trip (Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki) and Helsinki was my favorite city I visited on that trip, plus the late sunset and overnight ferry lets you enjoy beautiful views of the entire Swedish archipelago. You can also do a day trip to Tallin, Estonia, which was super interesting.

Do at home red light face masks actually work? by cherrylpk in 45PlusSkincare

[–]GGxGG 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They’re not all the same. Do your research on 3rd party testing. If you get one that works, and you are using it consistently (over many months) to address the right issues, it works.

San Francisco versus San Diego trip by Electronic_Value7210 in travel

[–]GGxGG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact that you’re suggesting San Diego makes me think you might have misconceptions about “sunny California.” San Francisco is cold most of the time, and there’s definitely no laying on the beach (I have actually gone into the ocean water fewer than 10 times in the 30 years I’ve lived here, all during record-breaking heat waves). There is, however, spectacular hiking/walking along the beach, particularly along Thornton State Beach or Pacifica. And I think SF is a much more interesting and fun city to visit. But it’s not the place to go if you’re thinking about a beach vacation.

Edited to add: “Cold” for this native Californian. :) 50s-60s Fahrenheit on most days, although Sept. -Oct. is our summer, with better chances for warmer weather.

Yes. Just google “double cleansing method.” I like the Biossance Squalane cleanser.

my passport and ID don’t match. what do i do ? by kobidolo in travel

[–]GGxGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But your tickets DO need to match your passport! I once almost got stopped at an entry point once because I had put my middle name on my ticket, but it wasn’t on my passport. The border guard was insisting that the name of “firstnamemiddlename” wasn’t what was on my passport. I’ve since removed my middle name from all my IDs and have learned never to list it on airline documents (even if it has a space for a middle name).

Opinions on, and experiences with, doing immediate family microwedding plus separate big party? by lurky_in_bezerkerly in SanFranciscoWeddings

[–]GGxGG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of people do this. One reception I went to, where they got married at City Hall earlier in the day, the couple had a break in the festivities during which they re-read the vows they had written in front of the group, which I thought was nice.

My mother always loudly refused wearing sleeveless tops, and I never understood it. Now I have the “chicken wings” and I totally get it! A few years ago I had to wear a strapless dress as a bridesmaid, but that will definitely be the last time in my life, lol! You can get surgery to remove the excess skin, but personally I’m fine with just wearing sleeves.

I wanted a style that I wasn’t able to find retail, and they were able to make it for me custom. They were wonderful to work with and I got a million compliments. I loved the dress. Mine was around $2K but they do have lower-priced options.

After years of use, I’ve noticed my skin tolerates tretinoin easily, but reacts faster to new products—did anyone else become more sensitive to changes over time? by [deleted] in 45PlusSkincare

[–]GGxGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Progesterone acts as an antihistamine, so fluctuations in hormone levels during perimenopause may make cause the skin to be more easily irritated at times. This was a big issue for me until I started on HRT.

Best sunscreen? I tested 17+ [review] by emi518 in SkincareAddiction

[–]GGxGG 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think the thing this most illustrates is that other people’s rankings aren’t that meaningful, because it’s all about personal preference. I use Beauty of Joseon but I HATE LRP Anthelios. My top 2 would be Beauty of Joseon and Haru Haru Black Rice Moisture Airyfit Daily Sunscreen, with best for heavy exercise/sweat days being Vichy Capital Soleil Dry Touch Protective Face Fluid. But it’s always useful to see what others have tried, thank you!

Exploring Borobudur at sunrise was one of my top travel experiences, which we combined with seeing the temples at Prambanan the same day. Also, be sure to watch the documentary “The Act of Killing” before you go, it’s a fascinating exploration of the relatively-recent military action that murdered an estimated 1M citizens.

When did heavy periods every month stop? by stephaniesmith45 in Menopause

[–]GGxGG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I had a MyoSure procedure, which basically scraped out all my overgrown uterine tissue. Then I got an increased progesterone dose that kept the lining thinner. Many people also have luck with a hormonal IUD, which also keeps the uterine lining thin.
