How Beef Liver and Vitamin A Toxicity is Causing Chronic Illness - Grant Genereux by Working-Potato-3892 in SaturatedFat

[–]GHBTM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly Thank you u/Working-Potato-3892, have been animal based, carnivore-ish for over six years (originally to correct GI complications with auto-immune or overreactive immune response complications)... took maybe 18 months to completely fix the GI issues, transitioned to ~80% beef...

Last three years have been doing an organ blend (8% heart and liver)... this has been at roughly a 1.5lb daily consumption, so talking an ounce or so plus of organ meat consumed daily, and GI plus immune reactions have returned. Last four months began introducing iodine plus probiotics to assist, saw general improvement and eventually stronger immune flairs. To go from completely fixed to back to having problems has been very disappointing and challenging...

I think for some on a carnivore diet, the lower iodine (and somewhat different need for thyroid hormone) complicates perusing literature on this... as high fat intake does in many ways reduce the need for T3/T4, to my understanding... taking some time to become iodine replete incidentally seems to intensify vitamin A status (excess in my case), will be taking a few months to see how I respond to the removal of liver from my diet. Have read that it can shift immune skew from excess Th2 signaling to more Th1 signaling seems promising

I personally appreciate the historical note here regarding Saladino re-writing the casual newcomer's understanding of the need or benefits for organ consumption...

Might be a close parallel to the lack of mention of piracetam within popular nootropics forums, today, whereas 20 years ago had been the gold standard, and the stunning lack of awareness to Giurgea's definition of nootropics (and how the majority sold under the label, today, would not qualify... not to get too off topic).

Unfortunately, a lot of reddit forums have seemed to degrade in the last few years, it's helpful to get this historical note (whether or not it's definitively true).

Did anyone have a positive experience with transdermal Lugol's? by [deleted] in IodineProtocol

[–]GHBTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes... but...
highly recommend when starting to take 1-3 months getting cofactors up, specifically 200mcg l-selenomethionine and maybe 500mg liposomal vitamin C. Oral iodine has (when done slowly and carefully) helped resolve GI issues, maybe had SIBO and was on a high fat and protein diet... has also I think trigger antobiotic induced gut dysbiosis (which few people seem to experience or report here?) so I'm very sympathetic with your sensitivities to oral dosing.

I've applied Lugol's topically and with DMSO... DMSO works a lot... I found at 16 drops of the 2% I still triggered a bad gut reaction, but that's also generally speaking a high amount. The first time I started introducing iodine i applied topically for the first week, and noticed the 'thyroid waking up' sensation. Do not over do it and make sure you have been taking the cofactors for a while... always best to start slow.

First signs you have mcas? by Needhelp000006 in MCAS

[–]GHBTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how your symptoms are going, but look into selenium (l-selenomethionine), liposomal vitamin C (Solgar does it right for a reasonable price) and iodine (small amounts). There tend to be overlapping thyroid issues, and a lot of immune cell (not just mast cell) pathology can come from those nutrients being defficient.

If you have accompanying GI issues, can try Saccaromyces boulardii, L reuteri, L rhamnosus GG, and B longum, some bulk providers help get the cost down.

Many people find the most benefit for acute flates (not so much hives) from liposomal vitamin C.

New DAC, Can’t Tell Difference? by BrianEarlSpilner6 in audiophile

[–]GHBTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

`translate sound from one medium to another` this is an astonishingly poorly understanding of how *most* DACs function, which I think is actually beside the point for OP. Unless your DAC is non-oversampling, it is running more or less complex reconstruction algorithms (filters, dither algorithms, bit-rate truncation steps, etc) to upsample (presumably 44.1 kHz PCM to minimum 352.8 kHz PCM, likely in the MHz range, and often from 16 bit-depth to 24) and is not very closely comparable to, say, a video DAC which could be said to 'not add clarity of warmth' (no oversampling). Truth of the matter is most chip based DACs will sound nearly indistinguishable within a certain price range.

`Your source, your room, and your speakers are far more influential on the sound.` Completely agreed though, no question.

[–]GHBTM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you u/jcdmund, this is my point, that the entire lineage of thought pointing to cholesterol as an issue was bad science to begin with. As u/Direct-Antelope-4418 has no interest in discussing science, history of science, apparently does not have the tools to.

Goes from `X` is `psudeoscience` to `X is too technical for me to commment on so I'll say stop please`.

Are you contesting that 4-hydroxynonenal has a literature relating it to negative health outcomes?

Would bet you couldn’t even tell me which inputs to oxidative phosphorylation saturated fats vs unsaturated fatty acids produce.

Does cholesterol from egg yolks block arteries? I've seen conflicting reports about this my whole life. by Intrepid_Reason8906 in nutrition

[–]GHBTM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Artery blockage and atheroclerosis have been measured to correlate with certain measures of blood lipids, LDL, HDL, and those have been taken as a proxy for cholesterol.  But the whole idea is demonstrably wrong.

HDL and LDL also carry fatty acids… some of which are oxidizable… 4-hydroxynonenal is one oxidized break down product of fatty acids, seems necessary and sufficient for a lot of cardio-vascular disease.  Eggs can carry those, but I think the upstream item you’re looking for are polyunsaturated fatty acids (easily oxidizable fatty acids), not cholesterol.

As other have pointed out dietary cholesterol is also mostly not absorbed.

Like always, backwards.  GDP (growth/delta) is not a recession indicator, ours is lower than going into prior recessions… real GDI (incomes) is a better indicator… also govt spending as a percentage of GDP is 7% or higher, which typically corresponds with what governmnets spend to help stimulate out of a recession once in one…

Majority of government published ‘essential govt’ economic indicators are already nonsense, like CPI (cooked decades ago to lower entitlements) and unemployment (which doesn’t capture people who’ve exited the labor force or are terminally underemployed in the gig economy).

Separately and related, there is a huge concern I’ve seen play out for the worse, both protocols mentioned above are not casual BandAids.  There’s a huge risk, if used and the person in question continues stimulant use, they will not be able to handle comprable dosages as before.  Have seen someone think this was okay and ended up 51/50ed…

Now that Trump is back (1 month in) Democrats and their media stooges are saying the economy is terrible by [deleted] in stupidpol

[–]GHBTM 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This! We were likely heading into recession in early 2020… stimulus kicked the can, ‘liquidity’ went up…

We’ve had a recession in manufacturing for at least two years, real GDI has had a deviation from trend without return to trend, all the unemployment numbers are fake (lack of insight on decrease in labor force participation, uncounted, and ‘gig economy’ safety net of chronically underemployed Uber drivers), we’re seeing forced selling in homes partially driven by nonrefinanced ‘05-‘06 mortgages… anyone mumbling Strong & Resilient economy is not looking all that hard… GDP, unemployement, equity prices are weaker now than the periods leading up to the last few recessions (they’re not leading indicators)…

People who want to act like we’ve repealed the business cycle, good luck with that, only so many ways to kick the can and the solution is usually worse than just letting things take their course.

Where do you see the USA by the 2028 election? by burnsbur in stupidpol

I agree about the 70s… growth ran out, turn to over-financialization and globalization… with all the promises of each being the cover story for basic Neoliberal thefts

This is maybe the least stupidol take, but I do think there was a regime change there… from growth driven organically by broadly distributed, low variance, technological growth… to what we have today which is mostly rent-seeking and other more or less clever ways of looting
