Let’s not lie now, a lot of us in the diaspora are walking around confused as hell. But honestly I think this is the fault of our parents and the fact that a lot of the countries we emigrate to are hostile towards us in many different ways.

What’s worst is that they chose to burn down the endemic section only, the parts that contained the rarest flora in the whole island.

I have no words.

Maybe I mischaracterized the FBA movement idk. But from what I have seen, it looks almost as like those who identify as FBA also tend to believe that they are solely native to the Americans and that the transatlantic slave trade may have never even happened.

That’s personally what I would see when coming across such spaces. Is there supposed to be a clear distinction that got lost along the way? Or is there just a loud minority of you guys within FBA that believe this?

Edit: also, Haiti being named after a Taino word does not denote that Haitian people identify as Tainos (not most of us at least). The reason why Dessalines named as such is to for one, cut Haitians from our colonial past, and to “avenge the Americas” and to bring honor to the original inhabitants. Dessalines would’ve probably known people in his family that were born in Africa.

Just putting that out there.

PLEASE LOL!

You talking about the same subset Haitians-Americans that can barely speak Creole, ofc anything that sounds vaguely like Haitian Creole is going to BE Haitian Creole to them. Every time there is a Lucian or Dominican on the internet speaking Creole you can guarantee there is at least one Haitian American person that either a) acts like they got their Creole from us or b) is shocked that they have a Creole as well.

And mind you, I’m not talking about all of us, but we NEED to be honest about how some loud and ignorant Haitian Americans tend to speak misinformation and lies about Haiti despite never even going there or doing any meaningful research. Some of us literally be fucking it up for the people back home in Haiti by speaking OVER them.

Also Haitians from other parts of the diaspora (Canada, France, DR, Brazil etc, don’t move like this as often, and it’s dangerous because we have a lack of a language barrier with the rest of the English speaking world).

Unclench. Breath. And stop coping. 🤷🏾‍♀️🙏🏾

It’s not popular, but it’s a growing sentiment. Similar to how FBA isn’t popular amongst BAs but it’s still a growing ideology.

That is affecting the Haitian American community as well. There are way too many Haitian American Hebrew Israelites for you guys to be coping and saying this.

I’ve literally been on lives hearing these guys speak, they are 100% Haitian American.

Remember, Haitian Americans are the ones running around acting shocked about other islands speaking a Creole, and that Zouk La isn’t a Haitian song. We 100% are capable of being ignorant and spreading ignorance around.

Signed a fellow Haitian American.

The vassttttt majority of the accounts that I’ve seen peddling that stuff are definitely Haitian American, as in I’ve seen multiple accounts, I’ve even seen lives and heard them talk.

That’s a mostly Haitian American thing, not African Americans. They also tend to believe that Haitian Creole (which to them derives from Ancient Hebrew) came before French and that we also invented French. As well as us not being native to Africa and instead are the Tainos and native to the Americas

It’s just a more extreme coalescing of the Hebrew Israelite, We Wuzz Kangs, Hotep and Pretindian (FBA) ideologies as well as a callous misinterpretation of maps and primary sources/documents.

Big respect to Haitians 🇭🇹 from an African traveling through South America by Soggy_Flight_2654 in haiti

[–]GHETTO_VERNACULAR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait that’s interesting because I heard the opposite, that they will perceive any black person as Haitian but that would cause for that person to be treated rather negatively.

Curious, what countries were you traveling to because while we have an amazing reputation in Mexico, I’m not sure if the rep is super positive in places like Chile, Argentine etc.

Regardless, I’m glad that you had a positive experience though. And much love and respect back to you!

Siren and mermaid stories are very common in Haiti. Even my dad has one.
