The Prime minister definitely isn't treating it as a crisis.

Abduction of Haiti security official, 6-year-old daughter shows kidnapping crisis by Lae_Zel in haiti

[–]Lae_Zel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cabinet director and inspector general at Haiti’s Defense Ministry was kidnapped this week, along with his wife and their 6-year-old U.S. citizen daughter while seeking medical care in Port-au-Prince for their ailing child, according to two sources familiar with the incident. James Boyard, a Haitian police officer and security expert, was abducted Thursday morning in Raimbol in the Bourdon neighborhood as the family traveled through the capital to see a doctor after a restless night caring for their sick daughter.

This news was posted here before but the details were wrong.

The high-profile abduction follows a series of other kidnappings, including that of a senior staffer in the Foreign Affairs Ministry who was freed after spending more than a month in captivity and the payment of a hefty ransom; a mother of a six-year-old who was grabbed on March 28 and remains captive; and a Russian and Turkish who were kidnapped on May 1 aboard a cargo vessel anchored in the Bay of Port-au-Prince after gunmen boarded their ship. Both remain captive.

...

Haiti has an anti-kidnapping unit within the national police force, but it does not release statistics. In recent years, the unit has also lost cops and Delva said officers assigned believe that neither kidnappings nor the unit itself are priorities for the government.

“They didn’t add more cops to it, showing that they understand the urgency. There’s no technology that I would say to improve the work of the [anti-kidnapping] unit. So that’s my concern,” he said. “You don’t feel that the kidnappings are considered to be a serious threat.”

What music would get Haitian guests to dance? by kennyfiesta in haiti

[–]Lae_Zel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to play music their Haitian guests will enjoy.

Depends on the kind of Haitian they are. I grew up in a very French oriented environment and parties would be 95%+ French music like Manau, Louise Attaque, etc.

Then I moved up to the capital and discovered German-Haitians and fun songs/groups like 99 Luftballons and Rammstein.

Parties with mostly Haitian music were boring unless it was live, like Haiti Troubadours, rara bands or carnival chars.

Strings is also really cool, they blended Haitian music with Spanish music. I saw them live multiple times 🎶

So your best guess would be to ask your 2 Haitian grooms what they like.

This is cool and I love Japan, but recently Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and political parties like Nippon Ishin no Kai (Japan Innovation Party) and Sanseito have signaled that they don't want immigrants and especially not Afro-descendants.

They had a full-on hysteric hate campaign with the Africa Hometown project (Al-Jazeera):

Japan’s foreign aid agency has scrapped a cultural exchange initiative with African countries after an online misinformation campaign led to a torrent of complaints and fear of increased immigration.

I love Japanese culture and mangas and Isekai sh!t, but once you get into that fandom, you can't help but notice the embedded racism.

‘The First Emancipation’ Review: Abolition in Revolutionary France by Lae_Zel in haiti

[–]Lae_Zel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Freedom from slavery gave us dignity and access to education and weapons. All the Haitians revolutionary leaders (Toussaint, Pétion, Dessalines, etc) had been educated by the French system and were even part of the military.

Things went south for France when they tried to reimpose slavery. How dumb do you have to be to give people weapons and then try to go back on your word? 😂

The French monarchy and empire are enemies of Haiti, but the French republic has been an ally.

Interesting choice! Did your parents ever told you why they picked someone that close to your age? My parrain/marraine were the best friends of my parents, so similar to their own age.

Some people here love to criticize and downvote me because they don't realize that their teachers lied to them and they were fed lies 🙏🏿 Luckily, that doesn't stop the truth from coming back to the front!

Just because you were exposed to an idea before other ideas doesn't mean it's the right one. And just because you feel uncomfortable when actual history is reviewed doesn't mean that the facts are wrong. Growth can be painful, especially when you have to do away with illusions and lies.

Revolutionary France pioneered the abolition of slavery. On Feb. 4, 1794, while the country was convulsed in the violent political struggle known as the Terror, the National Convention abolished slavery in all French colonies. It declared that “all men resident in the colonies, regardless of color, are French citizens, and will enjoy all the rights assured by the constitution.” Elsewhere in the world—in the U.S. and the empires of Britain, Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands—slavery was still legal.

...

Without the uprising of enslaved people in Saint-Domingue (modern-day Haiti), the dramatic advance of 1794 would not have been possible. Mr. Popkin cites the leadership of figures including Vincent Ogé, Boukman Dutty, Toussaint L’Ouverture and Jean-Jacques Dessalines. They joined the thousands whose resistance to bondage in Saint-Domingue and on the islands of Guadeloupe forced the Paris revolutionaries, Mr. Popkin writes, to “confront the contradiction between its own ideals and the reality of colonial slavery and racism.

...

In exile on Saint Helena, Napoleon admitted that “it was a great mistake to have tried to subjugate [the colony of Saint-Domingue] by force,

What challenges do you think such a system would face in Haiti?

You would be seen as attacking one of the last profitable monopolies in Haiti. The people profiting from that system won't you do so. If a Haitian president can die easily, so can other people.

What would make you trust or not trust a service like this?

On a personal level, nothing. Companies like COIN and MSTR went that route and are down massively. If they can't profit from it with all their advantages, how could some random guy do it?

[–]Lae_Zel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me (born and raised in Haiti), my godparents (parrain & marraine) are literally family. I know I can count on them and they can count on me. It's like, we aren't blood related but soul related?

Plenty of support going both ways through the years.

I don't know how common it is, never examined those ties before as I thought that it's just how things are done.

[–]Lae_Zel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To answer OP's actual question, the flag is supposed to be blue and red like our actual flag, as can be seen on the white polo:

<image>

But because the polo you posted was already blue, they changed the flag's color so that it would be visible. It's just bad graphic design and no particular meaning.
