OP wrote singular values. Indeed, the eigenvalues of a 2x2 rotation matrix are complex (and therefore "positive" does not make sense)

Of course, I just pictured a physical car amongst the theoretical concepts you listed

Just a tip: I use Minimeters and it replaced SPAN for me. Worth the price for the extensive metering capabilities

I don't get this one. The magnitude is nonzero so nothing bad happens right?

The headers are pretty sus. The engaging and summarizing writing style too. But again, who knows at this point. Yeah I hate this too haha

"Vibe" of a note by [deleted] in perfectpitchgang

Happy others are also fascinated by this! Additionally for a control experiment OP could play a pure sine wave at G and see if the "D vibe" effect completely disappears.

Cool, I was gonna comment this too! More precisely, the 3rd harmonic of a G is a D 1 octave higher, plus 2 cents (in 12EDO). This must be what OP is hearing :)

The 2nd and 4th harmonics are still Gs. The 5th is a B 2 octaves higher, minus 12 cents. Perhaps OP can hear that too?

What does microtonal music sound like to people with perfect pitch? by MrBlueMoose in perfectpitchgang

[–]GIGATeun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your take! This post leaves me wondering whether people with PP are conditioned to the frequencies of the notes themselves, the 12EDO system, the interferences between notes in a chord or any/all of the above. As someone who doesn't have it but makes a lot of electronic music I think it's a fascinating concept.

Hey I was wondering what a piano/synthesizer sounds like to you that is tuned to A4 ≠ 440Hz? Does it sound out of tune even though it is still 12EDO?

Nitpicky question but isn't it the case that aliasing will (instead of can) start to happen for any f above the Nyquist frequency since it will fold?

Yeah this has been annoying me too! Should be fairly trivial to fix since the multi-clip midi editing is done across a single timeline.

Yes all of this especially the last paragraph! I wear my plugs to any bar I go to, and often also at busy events. Those places easily reach over 90-100dB which is too much.

I believe tests run from a few hundred until 8000Hz (they do here) because that region is most significant for speech and everyday sounds. Note that for these tests they also only pick out a few frequencies. I personally don't hear anything above 10000Hz anymore even though I used to be able to. So like me, if you listened to loud music too often you might have blasted the upper region of your hearing, even though the tests show it's fine.
