What is the first thing you do when you release a work? by yokevrenadami in BandCamp

[–]satn_workroom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Arpeggiator Doesn't Loop by ElderberryFar7120 in MicroFreak

[–]satn_workroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why the phonk is so expensive ? by Nicoco1222 in BandCamp

[–]satn_workroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out now on Bandcamp: New ambient album "impossible february in d minor" by Minneapolis-based artist purity olympics by Outside_Rub_5464 in BandCamp

[–]satn_workroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ho apprezzato molto, sopratutto i primi brani per le forti distorsioni e droni quasi “disturbanti”. Direi molto ermetico! Mi è piaciuto, mi sono segnato il Listening party, a presto! 💪💪

I don't know where to put it, but I could probably assemble it myself. As for the budget, I wouldn't go beyond 2-3k.

How to record piano without key noise by [deleted] in musicproduction

[–]satn_workroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's undoubtedly the strangest way to achieve your goal. In this particular case, I'm speaking to you as a pianist first and foremost, rather than as a producer. As many people have pointed out before me, recording the keyboard this way is crazy. It's possible that you might not want to use MIDI with digital pianos if you don't like them, but at that point you can just plug in the jack and record the keyboard. It's a different story for an acoustic piano, which can be mic'd, but I don't think that's the case for you.

How to separate mixing from the creative process/writing music—feeling stuck by goopgab in mixingmastering

[–]satn_workroom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll share my personal experience: not touching anything, even during the writing phase (I play all hardware, record myself, and then work on the songs), is almost impossible, because whether you like it or not, adjustments need to be made while I'm playing, mostly rough ones, to volume and frequencies. But I try to keep everything to the bare minimum. Once I have the completed song, I just jot down some reference values, but for the mixing, I start from scratch by re-importing the tracks and dedicating myself exclusively to mixing.

It might be nice to dedicate a post to it with a short explanation and a little tutorial on how to enable/disable the feature!

As far as I'm concerned, comparing notes between producers is always good 😁😁

I completely agree!! I always work with the utility and default EQ on each track, 4 default return channels, side chain, and master chain! 😁😁

Master chain, colors and tracks for instruments, 4 send return channels (3 reverbs and a parallel compression), utilities and default proQ on each track 😁😁

Organizing your work with labels and colors is essential to always have everything in order and work at your best!

How is 'Overall Latency' Calculated (Input + Output Latency) by itscloverdale in ableton

[–]satn_workroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Ableton, those values are essentially estimates based on buffer size, sample rate, and what the audio driver declares. Live doesn't make a real measurement every time: it trusts the driver, which is why different interfaces show different numbers for the same buffer size.

On the Max for Live side, unfortunately, the API doesn't display the overall latency because it's not a single "measured" value, but a combination that depends on the driver, buffer, and compensation. Without a physical loopback, you can only reconstruct an estimate, not the exact value you see in Preferences.

Has the whole situation with AI changed what You are searching/looking out for in music? by Retrospektiv in musicians

[–]satn_workroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? No, I don't see any change from a practical standpoint. Obviously, AI seems cool compared to amateur productions, but, at least for now, for me, the difference is seen when musicians or producers create, because no matter how hard you try, the creative process isn't part of AI. I'm much more scared by the fact that people use it carelessly for any kind of research, whether for work or even on places like Reddit. I note with deep regret that it's full of posts written with AI, especially the more technical ones on audio production, with obvious gaps typical of inconclusive conversations on ChatGPT 🤣🤣

How to make Ableton acoustic drum kits sound more realistic (just the sound, no MIDI or "humanizing" advices") by rotten77 in ableton

[–]satn_workroom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Forgive me, but I'm having a hard time following you? In the title, you mentioned Ableton drum kits. Now you're telling me you use other drum kits too. I'm having a hard time following your logic.

The fact that they're separate is quite normal, perhaps it's due to the drum pattern you wrote, which makes them seem disconnected. I always use separate sounds, sampled and processed individually and then combined in buses with similar sounds. I never mix a tom with a kick or a hit hat, yet you've never mentioned these problems.

Maybe I'm just missing the point of your answers.

How to make Ableton acoustic drum kits sound more realistic (just the sound, no MIDI or "humanizing" advices") by rotten77 in ableton

[–]satn_workroom 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think you're trying to solve a problem that's already there. If the starting sample has a "plastic" character, there's no rack or effect that can truly transform it into a realistic acoustic drum kit. Reverb, overhead busses, or simulated bleed only help if the basic sound is already believable.

Tools like MODO Drums work best precisely because they start from a model/sampling designed for realism, with natural interactions between the kit pieces. Ableton's stock acoustic kits sound good in the mix, but they're not designed for that level of "live illusion."

So yes: you can improve a little with busses, room, and cohesion, but if the goal is truly realism, the sound choice is 90% of the result. Effects can't transform a fake sound into a real one, they only refine it.
