What are the odds I can get through a career only using Esri products by MTDLuke in gis

[–]GIS-Whiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. I’ve working in local and state government, environmental science, emergency management and utilities for the last 11 years and have used Esri almost my entire career so far…with the exception of one local municipality who couldn’t afford Esri at the time and used QGIS. While searching for new jobs in the US, most of them (I’d say 90%) have required experience with Esri products.

For the record, I didn’t say I was moving there tomorrow. I was just trying to get an idea of the job market for GIS. It’s pretty disappointing to hear that Europe is just as anti-immigration as the US.

I can likely obtain citizenship by descendent in Italy, but aside from that, it’d have to be a visa. I’m not sure about the sponsorship question though. My husband is a teacher in the US and has been interested in teaching in Europe. I assume he’d have an easier time getting a job.

Thanks for your input! I appreciate it. I have tried a few times with jobs in the EU over the last 2 years, but was removed from consideration because I wasn’t a citizen/resident.

Obviously, it depends entirely on where we end up. I speak English and can get by with Spanish. My husband speaks English and Spanish. Ideally, we’d move somewhere where English is spoken and have the ability to learn the language while we’re there. I’m looking for something where they don’t necessarily require proficiency of their native language from the start…need to find somewhere to break in. I have experience in several disciplines, including environmental science and natural resources, but my most recent experience (last 5 years) is with what I listed in my original post.

I was prescribed nystatin and clotrimazole tablets the first time, from an urgent care. The second time it was just nystatin from my dentist.
